  1. Woodpecker says:

Who recruited who…Devlin did not “recruit” these 3 players. They came to Wood on their own with the hope of greener pastures and a better football experience. Do you really think he sat in their living room like a scene from the “Blind Side” and made them promises.

    That’s such BS……

As far as any of the other players, they all played in the Wood CYO feeder system. My son included.

Wood had a great team this year, they will have a great program for many more years because the program is top notch. Who would not want to play there if they could.

  2. div1 says:

Jackie get your facts right about the kids….Thompson played for the cyo team in central bucks…the catholic high school is wood..nobly one arch went to prep and that was the oldest….there are 5 more sons…3 went to wood and the younger 2 are going also…….also their neighborhood hs….95 percent of these kids have been playing together since the 5 th grade.

  3. Mike says:

    Hey Joe, Very well said!

  4. Joe says:

I’m a Lehigh Valley Conference, D11 and ACC supporter and will not judge how Archbishop Wood runs their program or how the team is formed etc. That’s for the PCL, D12 and the PIAA to address if necessary. I will say that ACC had an amazing group of kids the past three years that almost all exclusively came up through The Little Vikings Junior High program. One starter (R J Taylor) transferred to ACC from Bethlehem Catholic in his junior year. ACC has a policy that they will not accept anything that appears to be an athletic transfer in the senior year. And as was noted in an earlier post ACC has rejected several notable and significant transfer requests the past three years. I will say that Wood had an amazing team in 2011 as ACC did in 2010. In my opinion Wood and ACC were the best teams in Pennsylvania in 2011 and 2010 respectively in any classification.

  5. Joey Doughnuts says:

@mike haha your not even getting it from ACC people, this how much people hate wood. Not because of winning or jealousy, but because of the way Devlin and wood people carry themselves. Some of the most ignorant coaches and fans I have ever seen.

  6. Mike says:

Joey, They didnt except them as transfers because they dont allow kids to transfer in going into their senior year. Hentz, does the name Orial ring a bell? Why cant you guys just stop crying. You got beat this year! You won last year, it makes for good stuff.

  7. hentz says:

    @ Mike:
You’re wrong about a whole bunch of things. No sour grapes, just facts. Here’s the facts: Catholic schools can accept kids from anywhere. There are no district boundaries. Public schools MUST pull only from their district. Wrong…you can not transfer to another district merely by paying the equivalent tax. You have to reside in the district. CBW, back in the day, did not do that. What Pettine Sr. did is talk the school board into breaking the district boundary with CBE ONLY. So he got those kids to go to CBW. Just the one’s from CBE. This caused the CBE coach ( Green) to quit. What Wood does is intice kids to go there with the promise of college scholarships because of the high profile the team has. Pettine did the same to the CBE kids also. That has stopped by-the-way. I call that recruiting. How can you not?

  8. Joey says:

@Mike AKA Dog21 ACC did not recruit your kid. That is a lie, the onl way ACC would have known about your son was if you lived in the lehigh valley and if you do why are you driving to bucks county everyday??? My son goes to Freedom and two of our best players Okezie and Eddie tried to transfer to ACC and they would not accept them. ACC rarely accepts any transfers if they even have the smell of recruiting attached to it.

Wood on the other hand? I cant dispute what I dont know but I do know that the peoples and smith did not grow up or currently live anywhere near Wood. They did not play for any middle school program assciated with any CYO Smith Went to George Washington and transferred for his senior year. Desmon went to Abington, St. Joe Prep, and then wood. Brandon went Abington then Wood. Wood people are some of the most arrogant people I have ever met.

  9. Mike says:

Hentz, You are allowed to go to another pub school if you pay the equivallent of the tax. It was done back when CBW was a perenial power. It’s just that the tide has turned now and the Catholic schools are the powers.

  10. Mike says:

Hentz, I do agree with you. I’m not saying that wood does’nt go out and get kids. The Catholic schools have to in order to survive. My point was that ACC does the same thing they have too. The peoples are practicing catholics who had a choice. If I went into half the B.S. that Brandon was going through at Abington you would’nt believe it The parents did the best thing for their children! It just is’nt as one sided as Jackie makes it out to be. Just sour grapes!

  11. Seamus says:

@ Mike: Congrats on a great season. Best team in the State this year.
Now, it is one thing for an 8th grader living far away to come in. That is fair game. Arch of Phila has open enrollement.Families move into a new area, etc… RE Peoples. Please!! D. Peoples 3 SCHOOLS IN 4 YEARS!! B. PEOPLES 2 SCHOOLS!! Nate Smith transfers in for Sr. year. There are many people within the CYO community in Bucks County who are fit to be tied with Devlin and his antics. No loyalty whatesoever. Gonna come back to bite him. Can someone from Wood tell us how the new transfers grades are?? Do they even care??

  12. hentz says:

    @ Mike:

But is she right? Didn’t the Peoples boys go to Abington & Prep? They’re not little parish schools in & around philly. None of the public schools would be allowed to get them UNLESS they lived in that district. That’s kinda like recruting, don’t you agree?

  13. Mike says:

Jackie, You are wrong on so many points I don’t know where to begin. Unlike Allentown Philadelphia is a huge city. There are or were many parrishes to attend. Then there were many Catholic High Schools to go to. Now not so many so there is open enrollment available to catholic students who excel in sports in order to better themselves. Peoples cousins attended a parrish outside of Philly which gave them the opportunity to attend the Catholic High School they wanted. Thompson played CYO Ball for his local parrish as did the Archiadaconos all which fed into Archbishop Wood! Now for you to tell me that ACC does not recruit would make you a lier! They tried to recruit my son,who now goes to Wood. ACC has to recruit in order to survive just like the other Arcdiocesen Schools. ACC had a great crop of boys the last few years who were from local parrishes. Woods crop of players was just the same local parrish kids who grew and got better together and achieved great things as ACC did the year before. To complain about recruiting is the pot calling the kettle black!

  14. Jackie says:

    @Mike who did Acc recruit?
    Nosovitch- St. Thomas
    Gulyas- St. Thomas
    McNeely’s- Cathedral
    McDermott- Cathedral
    Sandherr- St. Joes
    Faust- St. Mikes
    Pitts- St. Francis
    O’donnel- Cathedral
    Roberts- St. Elizabeth
    Scarloto- St. Joes
Those are most of the kids who contributed over the past three years and the catholic grade school they attended.
    Wood
    D. Peoples- Abington HS, St. Joe Prep hmmm 3 High Schools.
    B. Peoples- Abington HS
    N. Smith- George Washington HS
    C. Thompson- Central Bucks Middle School.
Archiadocono’s- All the brothers went to prep. Where prep is located compared to where wood is hmm.
I could go on and on about this team
Oh wait brooks left prep? That makes it ok? Wrong thats an athletic transfer. Te fact of the matter is Devlin is an average football coach with a napolean complex. Mike Carey runs that team. Which is kind of funny. Google Mike Carey interviews Mike Pettine Sr. A transcript will come up where both talk about building programs where you get kids from your district. Now carey is a part of that, can you say hypocrit

  15. hentz says:

Wasn’t Peoples originally at St. Joe’s Prep? How’d he get to Wood? Did he move into that school district? Would you define that as recruiting? I’m just asking. Some people do & some don’t consider that recruiting. That’s what Dan is pointing out.

  16. Mike says:

    Dan,
ACC doesnt recruit??????? I sense sour grapes!

  17. Brian Hope says:

    @ Buddy

I agree Lasalle & NP have great programs however R. Reeves from NP should have been on the list. Reeves has to be the best 2012 linebacker in the state and was denied due to Politics. The Big 33 is all about who you know not how well you play. I’ve seen this happen many times in the past.

  18. Marie says:

Chris Muller chose not to submit a highlight tape for consideration. He does not want to risk injury so close to starting at Rutgers. He was invited to play in 3 other all-star games but declined.

  19. Dan says:

First off. Nosovitch played hurt ALL YEAR!!! Played with a torn labrum in his left shoulder which occured against Downingtown the 1st game of the year or he would have put up even better numbers. Harding is a nice player. Nosovitch is a GREAT PLAYER. And one more final comment for dog. Enough about WOOD!! You bought your championship with all your recruiting. Be satisfied.

  20. Buddy says:

LaSalle is one of those teams similiar to North Penn. They have no outstanding superstars that get all the press, just very solid teams on both sides of the ball. Neither send anyone to the Big 33 , or any other allstar assemble either. However, no one can beat them on the field.

  21. Jackie says:

@LVCfan MAybe Harding should be in over the kid from prep but there are several kids who should be in over harding. First of all Hardings numbers were not better than Nosovitch’s. Harding is an average QB who played in a great system. Plain and Simple

  22. LVCfan says:

All these kids had amazing seasons, nosovitch is one of the most amazing players in LVC/D11/PIAA history…

Some kids got robbed big time..Dan Harding deserved to be on this roster over Morninweg, had one of the best seasons of any QB ..take away those 2 crazy games in the state playoffs for Nosovitch (8 tds in one i believe) and Hardings numbers blew him away.

Big 33 needs to consider adding a 3rd running back to the roster, there were too many great backs this year to only select 2 . Also maybe add a 2nd athlete spot because they left a few good recievers and db’s off this list as well.

And i got to agree with the earlier post..where are any of the LaSalle players? I only got to see them once against Nazareth, but there was talent everywhere, very well coached squad.. dont know much about there numbers but they had some playmakers

  23. Buddy says:

    @ Jackie:

    Why is that?

  24. Dan says:

    @ Jackie

I hear what you are saying. I wasn’t sure where he is from but if he is from SEPA,he sounds typical.

  25. Jackie says:

@Dan didnt you know that nobody outside of SEPA is allowed to be good

  26. Dan says:

    @ littleguyscoach

Just to let you know, in 2 games against Easton this year, Harding threw for almost 600 yds and 5 touchdowns. You might want to give the guy a little respect. Plus he threw for 280 yds against mighty LaSalle, so it seems a team from outside the Lehigh Valley couldn’t defend him either. And I’m not even a Nazareth fan.

  27. littleguyscoach says:

personally any qb could throw for 2500 and 30 they way your teams play defense in the lehigh valley with the exception of easton which always plays good D!

  28. HSfan says:

harding got all the local awards over nosovitch cuz nosovitch won them all last yr as a junior last year, thats how the selections work around here, they wanted to honor harding for a good year and they did and it was well deserved the kid played great. its hard to argue if he should be in this game or not, he broke out as a junior and had an awesome year this year. i think he deserves a spot altho i havent seen mornhinweg play at all. harding was consistent tho its hard to overlook what he did. i see him as a patriot league player, very good awareness, hes accurate bit weird mechanics

  29. Buddy says:

    @ PCL fan:
I agree. The league is very good ( well not all, but the expected powerhouses are). They are winners for the most part. But some of you PCL fans do go on & on forever. And the powerhouses do lose on occasion ( ex. West Catholic & LaSalle in East final). Just settle down. Give other teams their due. Wood the greatest team ever? Very debatable.

  30. PCL Fan says:

    BUDDY
PCL doesn’t lose! We are winners!
    D. Peoples should have been the 1st Wood player taken. He’s ran circles around our league for 3years.
He gave my alma mater fits! The kid is as legit as they come. I have seen Slaton, K. Jones, Heygood, and D. Peoples is in that class of elite RB.
I hope he isn’t dicouraged by this, bc this does diminish anything he’s done.

  31. Jackie says:

@Lehigh Valley you really think hardin gis better than Nosovitch or any other D1 kid? I have heard that he is not even being recruited by scholarship FCS only non scolarship. Nosovitch was just named a parade all american

  32. Max says:

Harding? He had a great year, but he is a Division 2 or 3 kid, patriot league at best. I would take skylar over him as well as Manny Stocker, Perry Hills, Matt Johns. He is a very good HS qb who has awful mechanics. He does not belong in this game.

  33. Lehigh Valley says:

QB is definitely a popularity contest. The two guys with the biggest names get selected. Although I don’t have a problem with Nosovitch being selected, Morninweg has done nothing to prove he’s worthy of this game. Can someone please tell me how Dan Harding, LVC player of the year, and player of the year from both local newspapers (all over Nosovitch), as well as co-player of the year in 4A does not make this team? He is being undervalued by the people who selected this team as well as every college recruiting him (or not recruiting him) just because his big numbers only came in his senior year. That’s only because Naz didn’t need him to be a prolific passer last year becuase of a great RB, just see the records that were broken at Princeton this year. Harding not being on this team is an embarrassment.

  34. Soup says:

Big 33 has always been political, when I played & coached back in Pgh…. Reeves from NP should be on the roster, physical tackler and watch him block some time… animal.

  35. HSfan says:

i can name a few other linemen better then muller. the kids got tons of potential dont get me wrong but he plays in a weak conference and didnt really dominate. he tested well at a combine which means nothing in the army all american bowl he didnt play all that well hes got the size and speed to develop into somethin special but right now hes just raw. congrats to brendan nosovitch tho bein selected the parade magazine all american team, cant wait to see how he performs in this game

  36. Buddy says:

    @ Jake:

you sure got that right! ( about Dog21 ). With this guy, it’s all things PCL. Doesn’t handle loses well either, that’s for sure.

  37. Max says:

@BOSS I am not condoning the recruiting sites that were posted below regarding the peoples, garmon, shell, and durden. But I would say that what was posted below is much more sccurate than your papreps. I KNOW papreps is part of the rivals family, but those are the papreps publisher Andrew Chiapizzi (sp) and he is not very knowledgeable when it come pa football, especially the east. I AM NOT discounting how good the peoples are. But I would not reference his personal rankings as justification.

@Dog why do you get so upset? Are you not the same guy who bashes everyone when comparing them to wood on here and pennlive. Relax you got 4 kids in. As far as Hallman, I read that on papreps and would not believe that hallman would leave carey unless hallman was getting out of coaching. So most likely not true.

  38. Jake says:

@ Dog21: Dude you need to lighten up regarding all things Wood. Congrats on your Championship. Move on.

  39. BOSS says:

    Joey
I also agree that there should have been another QB besides Skyler. the kid hasn’t won anything. His completion percentage is flat out horrendous. His Daddy is famous, has some cloud; so he’s in the game. This further identifies the abosolute BS that goes on with these picks.
He’s about as legit as his offer to Stanford! COME ON MAN!!!
I will say it again UNJUSTIFIABLY!

  40. Brian Hope says:

    @ Joey Doughnuts

Reeves has to be the best LB in the state, Lead North Penn in tackles on one of the best defenses in a tough conference. Agree with Boss its a popularity contest.

  41. BOSS says:

Chris Muller US ARMY all American, rivals 4 star didn’t make it either. justify that one too?
all of this stuff is a freakn popularity contest!!!!!
    You cant justify BS!

  42. BOSS says:

    Matty,Gene
Your nuts watch the film D.Peoples is better than Durden on rivals D. peoples is the #2 rated back behing shell. Durden is #5 and B. Peoples is #6. you do your homework. last but not least in a match up against a common opponent D.Peoples over 150yds 2tds and 2ints when the stakes were high in the state championship game. This was in the the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. He did all of this on 18 carries in 3quarters. Dez is much better than Durden; please why didn’t you put his bum ass offers up.
Des is equipped to play RB,DB,or Slot he’s simply the better athlete that should have been on this team.
PA. sucks in this game the last 3years bc they get it wrong; the best players aren’t even playing. Go kick rocks and stop hating on the PCL.
    IT’S NOT EVEN CLOSE

  43. Joey Doughnuts says:

What position should reeves have made the game as? Not imflamatory, just curious. I think Zach Wilk should be on this team from CD and Matt Johns or Perry Hills should be the 2nd QB behind Nosovitch.

  44. Joey Doughnuts says:

@Dog21 I believe from talking to some people that the max per team is 3. To get a 4th the coaches have a vote of some kind. I would take the 4 from wood who got in. D. Peoples most likely was/is viewed the same as durden. I would not take peoples over shell or garmon but i would think him and durden are about the same. Thus durden gets in as there were most likely 3 on the team with vote for the 4th coming. I bet they voted on Nate smith. B. Peoples prob very far down on the list. D should make east/west. B prob on the bubble for that game.

  45. Brian Hope says:

Reeves from North Penn should be on the list. There are a lot of politics in the selection, I’ve seen it first hand. There was a kid a few years back who played on the Big33 and went to Shippensburg, he lasted less than a week in summer practice, not impressed.

  46. Dog21 says:

    Rick
you can confirm that Hallman left? You must be an insider so please share. Oh wait. You saw a post on PaPreps from one poster and now are using it here.

  47. Gene says:

    @dog21 do some research:

    D. Peoples: RIVALS: 3 star no ranking nationally, 40th in pa. 247SPORTS: 3 Star #13 @position, #17 in PA, no nationa rank. SCOUT: 3 star #68 @position no national rank. ESPN: 3 Star @Position #83, Region #96, #29 in PA. OFFERS: Rutgers, Gtech, Pitt, Temple, UCLA.

    B. Peoples: RIVALS: 2 Star No Position, National or state ranking. SCOUT: 3 Star #108 @position. 247SPORTS: 3 Star, #120 @position, #44 in PA no national ranking. ESPN: 2 Star, #167 @position, #262 in the region, #71 in the PA. OFFERS: Templs and St. Francis (PA)

    G. Garmon: RIVLAS: 4 Star, #16 @position, #6 in PA. SCOUT: 4 Star, #12@position. 247SPORTS: 4 Star, #19 @position, #9 in PA. ESPN: 4 Star #30 @position, #21 in the region, #5 in Pa. OFFERS: Iowa, ASU, Arkansas, Uconn, Fla St., Illinois, Miami (Fl), Michigan, Ohio St., PSU, Purdue, Rutgers, Tennessee, Texas A&M.

    R. Shell: RIVALS: 4 Star, #5 @position, #45 Nationally, #2 in Pa. SCOUT: 5 Star #4 @position. 247SPORTS: 4 Star, #6 @position, #2 in pa, #54 nationally. ESPN: 4 Star, #3 @position, #4 in the region, #2 in pa, and #25 nationally. OFFERS: Pitt, Alabama, Auburn, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Ohio St., Oregon, PSU, Tennessee, UCLA, WVU.

Now your going tell me that the top 2 belong on the team over these 2? and if you PCL knew or understood anything about the big33 (ecpecially the tradition) you would understand that you can’t just add them to the team, there are only 33 players selected and 1 kicker making it 34. So the peoples would have to bump these 2 guys.

  48. Rick says:

@Dog Brandon and Desmon are not 1 of the 33 best players it’s that simple. The four who made it from ABW deserve it and are apart of something special. This is the problem with PCL people the sun does rise and set based on you guys! You got 4 kids in the game! All 4 absolutely deserve it. The 2 you are griping about didn’t deserve and don’t deserve to be on this roster. It’s plain to see. As an ABW fan I would be more worried about Hallman left especially his quote “I have to get away from that madness”. Knowing I’m sure the Devlin Ego vs Carey Ego has been in full effect and the best strength coach in Pennsylvania left the program because of what he called madness. I’m sure the lack of class didn’t help.

  49. Dog21 says:

    James
“Neither Peoples is in the same class as Shell” Stop. Please. Stop. Des is one of the best RB’s, most electric to hit PA in a long time. Shell great player as well. They are both in the same class, neither outclasses the other. That’s a ridiculous statement.

  50. Matty says:

@Dog21 are you kidding me with Wood getting screwed?? They got 4 kids on the team!!!

Desmon Peoples is the 40th ranked player in PA and had offers from Rutgers, UCLA, GTech, and Temple. He is not ranked at his position.

Brandon Peoples is not ranked in the top 40 of PA players, is a 2 star recruit and had offers from Temple, and St. Francis PA.

Rushel Shell is ranked 5th at his position nationally, 45th nationally all together, and 2nd in PA. He has over 15 offers from every BCS conference in the country including the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Ohio St.

Greg Garmon is ranked 18th at his position nationally, and 6th in PA. He had over 20 offers from every BCS conference is committed to Iowa and some of those offers included Arkansas, Ohio St., and Florida St.

Your right they got hosed!!! I know it is hard for PCL people to understand but NOT everything happens in SEPA, Pennsylvania is a big state, I know it’s tough to take but their are actually schools outside of Warminster. Take a breath, calm down it will be ok.

  51. Garfield says:

Ralph reeves started four years both sides of the balland only loss to 5 teams in Pennsylvania. Deffinetly got snubbed!

  52. James says:

Wood did not get screwed. Both peoples were not hosed. No disrecpect to Brandon but he does deserve to be on the team. Great football player but not up there. I do believe Des should be on the team but who do you take off? I would not take Durden, Shell, or Garmon off that team. Believe niether Peoples is in the same class as Shell. Garmon and Durden are “Des Peoples” in the their part of the state.

I think both kids are great but I do not think either got hosed. The surprise of this team is Skyler at QB. Johns, Hills, Stocker, Harding all could have been the QB.

  53. big p says:

Ralphie Reeves from North Penn should be on that roster. I do not know many players who started both ways for three years in a powerhouse program.

  54. Bruce says:

Not one person from North Penn? Who selects this exactly?!

  55. Dog21 says:

Actually Wood should have had 6. Both Peoples got hosed.

  56. bobby d says:

I don’t have a horse in the race as the saying goes but 4 players from Wood? With all the players in Pennsylvania, they couldn’t fine enough good ones? Sounds like this thing is biased or rigged?

  57. Dan says:

Nice squad. Hopefully it’s enough to beat Ohio.
