  1. I think this could settle the arguement…regardless of who gets POY…Fegley, Long, Gulyas, Clay, Willaims, & Nosovitch should all certainly make the All-Star Team…can we all agree on that?

  2. half of the yards he had came on SCA’s backups…don’t get me wrong the kid is a very good player but not player of the year good

  3. I had to go back a check, but Long did put up almost 400 total yards on SC. So if he did that on a State finalist wouldn’t you expect him to rack up yards on lesser competition?

  4. I don’t really follow Southern or Pius but I would have to give the edge to Fegley over Long…Fegley did it all when they played Pius and SCA pounded Pius, plus Long’s stats can’t be taken too seriously because they play probably the weakest schedule in the state and that is why Fegley and company destroyed them in the State playoffs

  5. Kevin gulyas- broke every state Receiver record…2,000 yards receiving…that’s only happened 6 times in US history…..

  6. Fegley is a nice player but he shouldn’t be named Player of the year. Look what AJ Long did at Pius X and Roman Clay is a beast at Lancaster Catholic.

David Williams at West Catholic is a tremendous back too.

  7. thats fine you are saying eastern player of the year but the award is going to the player of the year in the state. As for coach Central Dauphin is geographically in the east but they play in the west so their coach would be my pick regardless. I am not saying anything negative about Fegley but one stat doesn’t automatically win him the award. 0 int’s is very impressive and playing on defense and doing well is awesome too. If you are picking for the east, that is fine, I won’t argue that, but this discussion is for the state.

  8. To brian. I’s agree with Boyd but this is for Eastern PA not Western that is why I would go with Fegley & Roth…you could also debate that Lancaster Catholic’s coach deserves consideration as well, but they had an easier road in AA I feel…Fegley was just unbelievably good this season. He will probably be the only QB in PA history to ever play both QB & LB in a 16 game season while excelling at both and never throwing an INT…that is such a crazy stat and deserves to be considered

  9. I would agree with Roth if SCA would’ve beat Clairton. As for Fegley, I’m not sure why people are saying player of the year. He had a very good year, but there are several players who I would put ahead of him and Tyler Boyd is one that stands above the rest. The reason I don’t say Roth is you could make arguments his playcalling is one of the reasons they lost both their games. SCA was up 2 scores on MCA with less than 10mins left and lost because he stayed in man to man coverage knowing MCA had to pass. In the Clairton game, after Clairton scored to make it 27-19 and SCA recovered a fumble around the Clairton 35 with 4 minutes left. He went to 4 straight passes. There was plenty of time left to run, especially the inside reverse which was gaining good yardage.

  10. SCA should be honored for both awards:
Player of the Year: Brad Fegley
Coach of the Year: Jim Roth
Fegley was selected today as the News-Item MVP which is a great honor considering the teams the paper covers (Southern Columbia- State Finalist, Mount Carmel- District 4 AA Champions, Shamokin- District 4 AAA Champions, Line Mountain- District 4 A Runner-Up, & North Schuykill- playoff team)

  11. Robert Bennie of Stroudsburg High School. 3000 total yards of Offense, 27 total tds, MVC and Pocono Record player of the year. One of the Best FS in that state of Pennsylvania.

  12. Brad Fegley QB/LB for Southern Columbia
Offense: 20 total TDs & 0 INTs all season
    Defense: all over the field
Led the Tigers to first State Championship game since 2006
Very deserving of Small School Player of the Year!

  13. Vince Bedesem for his consistency that he has started and for the first state semi-final run in school history! Since 2008/2009 where the Golden Hawks were upset and left one game short of the play-offs, he took a program where they had only one winning season before that, after making it for the first time in school history and losing to state semi-finalist Ridley, they’ve made it a step further each year and now he has made them into a D1/Suburban One power house. Every year they graduate a decent amount of seniors and then they still put together a strong lineup and team. Just my thought but congratulations on doing what you did for this program. Hats off to you and your staff

  14. i believe dunmore stumbled once, lost 5 fumbles that led to a 1 point upset, otherwise i think they would have reached the single A state final.they crushed teams while mostly playing the 2nd team most of the 3rd and 4th qtrs.they should be ranked higher.also austin seamon deserves consideration for small school player of the year.he carried the ball much fewer times because of the blowouts, and also sharing time with dunmore’s other fine tailback daiquon buckley.in addition he only carried the ball 3 times vs carbondale-4 times against honesdale-10 times against montrose.these are games he could have piled up big numbers, like other backs did,but dunmore does not run up big scores if avoidable. he averaged over 9 yds. per carry-played strong safety on one of the top defenses and also ran back kickoffs on the rare occasion he was kicked to.(1 kickoff returned for touchdown. 12-22-11 11:03pm

  15. I believe Mike Ricci from Garnet Valley should get serious consideration for Coach of the Year. After completely embarrasing losses to Strath Haven and Ridley and not making playoffs for the first time since 2005 the previous year, GV was all, but written off for this 2011 season. Even after the embarssing loss to Unionville at the beginning of this year, Ricci made his players believe in him and themselves and they went on to beat Ridley twice and make the 3rd round of the PIAA playoffs. I know that most of the coaches that had their teams in the championship games will be more considered, but Ricci is someone to not ignore.

  17. Coach of Year is Central Daughin s coach or Beck from NP, he brought his team back after early losses. I think the kid from LaSalle Wade had a great year carrying that team. He finished with almost 1600 yds and 22 scores. They started 5 new players on the team and were 1 step away from Hershey for 3 rd straight year. He willed them to win against Nazareth with receiving and rushing for 250 yds. If your team is based on HS season and not some future projection on college than it would be hard to find a netter or tougher all around player.

  18. What about the Pius X QB, he had over 4,600 yds total offense and 63tds if maxpreps is correct! That’s leads the state.

  19. Charles Sweigert, from Lancaster Catholic. The WR/DB had over 900 yards receiving, 9 interceptions, with two pick sixs
