Who will be this year’s surprise and who will dominate football this year. It’s never too early to talk High School Football.

Who are your top players in 2012? Who do you think will be the top teams going into the 2012 season?

  1. Appreciate your clarity. Playing top teams nationally is not an advantage though. It’s a disadvantage. So that’s not a valid excuse as to why the N.Jersey programs are better. The PCL just needs to get with the program. The last legit team was the ’03 Prep team. And sheer population isn’t the only factor either. Look at Thomas Aquinas from Ft.Lauderdale, FL. They’re a national powerhouse. And we have a lot more people in the Phila. region.

  2. When you say that the Bosco and Bergen programs are going nationl — do you mean that they actually recruit nationally? I know they play teams from all over the country but I don’t know about national recruiting.

  3. Watch out for martin luther king high in philly. ive heard they have a transfer from the pottsville area by the name of Carey Bostick. Watch out for this fifteen year old Beast, hes going to shake the city up.

  4. The private schools in PA don’t recruit well enough. At the AAAA level public schools have won 19 of the 24 state titles. Maybe Don Bosco Prep, Bergen Catholic, St. Peter’s Prep, and even St. Joe’s Montvale could conduct a seminar for the PCL.

  5. @paulfromphilly why are you still posting stuff on here, I thought it was already implied that you were on comment timeout.

  6. @mattyG and hentz

I think matty means he feels Ridley is not much mentioned in the discussions of the great football programs currently. I can see both sides of that. The Green Raiders have reached the 500-win list in the shortest time of any team on the list, only starting 1934. Some teams on the list started 1888, 1892, most by 1910. That’s amazing. Flip side, their last state championship appearance 1990; D1 champs 2007 – 2009. There always seem to be at least one or more little bit better teams in the east each year for some reason. Plus I think there might be a new sheriff in the Central League, and his initials are G V.

  7. @ mattyG:

    What’s that mean?

    @ Brian:

I agree. Pennridge will be good. Should be beter then last year. They play a tough schedule that’s for sure. With the likes of Neshaminy, NP etc. Maybe make the playoffs since they are keeping 16 teams. I wish them luck.

    @ paulfromphilly:

nick7del is making a fool of you! You gonna let him get away with that?

  8. @ hentz

I like Pennridge this coming year, my buddies son goes there and they literally have everyone coming back. They only lost 3 guys on both sides of the ball. They have an incredible backfield with Class & Crawford both back and a seasoned offensive line. They had a bad start last year but once they got the right kids in place (all underclassmen) they had a winning season. You should have seen the 2-0 loss to CR South. Definately a good loss. Time will tell.

I will give you Wood. Definately a great team. I’ll take High School Football over the pros anyday of the week.

  9. @ Brian:

If you are only counting AAAA schools, I think your pick are a bit out of order there. If you count all large schools ( AAAA & AAA ), Wood would have to be first.

Man you sure are a homer. Pennridge 3rd? I don’t mind if you’re right, I like Pennridge ( my grandkids go to that school district), but I think Neshaminy, Pennsbury, D-town East etc. etc. will have something to say about that.

I think it’s LaSalle, then maybe NP, etc. for AAAA only.

  10. I dont see what the big issue is, if a kid wants to go to a Private school for football or academics he has every right too. You guys have to get off your high horses. It’s High School Football, not the pros. I enjoy watching both public & private league games and both are equally good. As for Nate Smith it shouldn’t matter, I hope he does well. Just remember their kids trying to get ahead.

My top three picks for the SE in 2012 are North Penn, LaSalle & Pennridge

  11. @nick7del again. And just so you know something as a fact, I do know something about the program. My son was on the team for the last 4 years. 4 PCL championships, 3 city or D12 Championships, 2 semi-finals appearances and a State Championship. Now what states were those boys from. Oh I forgot it doesn’t matter, they were living at school. Moron!

  12. @ nick7del. I don’t know why you would make it up. Let’s go on the premise that you didn’t. Name the states. Name the counties, and the players. Maybe it’s the same reason why you made up the statement that La Salle is now a boarding school for all the out of state help. Just keep throwing that stuff nick if it makes you feel better.

  13. @Joey. Someone took down my previous post where I called you a hick. According to the U.S. census bureau. Philly has 1.5 million. Montgomery county has 700,000. Bucks has a half a million, Delaware has a half a million. Granted I’m stupid, as you said, but that number does not add up to 6 million. That’s half the state in and around Philly. You really believe that? And numbers don’t mean anything. Maybe it’s the coaching and the program. That’s when I called you a friggin hick.

  14. @paulfromphilly like why would I make that up, exactly I have no reason to, so stop acting like you know every little thing that goes on because I guess you didn’t realize that kids can live at Lasalle so that bus doesn’t have to make those trips everyday.

@Brian Hope…The thing is though is that doesn’t happen MOST of the time and a perfect example is Nate Smith who from George Washing to Wood for “academic purposes” like come on everyone knows that’s not true, he just went there to play football but as long as he has that excuse it’s allowed.

  15. @ Joey. Sorry I called you a friggin hick, but when people make over the top statements without anything to go on, well it pisses me off. Just as an example about La Salle, their only returning starter on the defensive or offensive line this year was a student who was 6’2″ and weighed 205. For a lineman. Either they don’t do a very good job recruiting or that student was pretty well coached and bought into the program. And I’m sure your teeth outnumber your tattoos by a few.
