DALLAS – Valley View scored 18 unanswered points and quarterback Liam Callejas hit Brian Lalli for a 16-yard strike for the game-winning pass with 1:11 remaining in an 18-12 win over Dallas area in the District 2 Class 3A championship game Saturday afternoon.

Dallas capitalized on a Valley View turnover driving five plays for the score. Shane Dunn made a circus catch in the end zone for a one-yard pass from Ryan Zapoticky.  The kick was blocked and Dallas led 6-0.

Valley View’s second turnover of the first quarter turned into more points for Dallas. Paul Brace intercepted a Callejas pass and took it 26-yards for the score. The two-point conversion failed and Dallas led 12-0 with 2:24 remaining in the first quarter.

In a turnover filled first half, Valley View recovered a fumble in Dallas territory. Pat Jeffers 10-yard scamper cut Dallas lead in half, 12-6.

The next two drives ended in interceptions by both teams. After a sloppy first half that saw lots of penalty and five turnovers, Dallas led 12-6 at halftime.

After a scoreless third quarter Valley View finally got the big play late in the fourth quarter. Callejas hit a wide-open Lalli for a 75-yard bomb to tie the game up at 12 with 2:56 remaining in the game.

On Dallas’s next possession they turned the ball over on their first play for the fifth time and Valley View’s Brian Lalli recovered it.

With 1:11 left in the game, Callejas made the biggest throw of the year hitting Lalli for the 16-yard touchdown and the District 2 Class 3A title.

Valley View’s quarterback Liam Callejas finished the day passing for 84 yards and two scores. Brian Lalli had 91 yards receiving and one fumble recovery.

Valley View (11-1) plays Allentown Central Catholic (7-5) at BASD Stadium Friday night at 7pm in the first round of the PIAA 3A playoffs.

  1. I am not an ACC fan but VV fans should be worried. ACC could put 60 up on your defense. I know it is difficult to get a full picture in a 6 minute clip, but ACC will be much faster and more athletic. I would be shocked if ACC does not win this game by 3-4 maybe 5 TD’s.

Your only chance is to slow the game down and keep Nosovitch off the field. You do not appear to have enough team speed.

  2. dan i agree if we play like we did aganist dallas we get blowen out i dont know if it was field the day or just one of thouse things but we played the worst i seen them play all year

  3. No disrespect to ACC and the program they have as I enjoy watching them play. That is arguable that ACC or other private schools close to the PA, NJ, MD, Va, NY and De borders do not get kids from those states. I am sorry I have seen it done many times in the field of education. It is not taking a stab at ACC or any other private school because I would do the same thing if I had the opportunity to improve my program. ACC’s enrollment is 301 and the new number for 2012/2013 is 299 so they will “officially” be AAA.
My point was about the field they can draw from. All private schools basically have no boundaries to send them from one school to another. All private schools have the ability to recruit. If you don’t believe that than you are in denial. The voucher process aids private schools and gives them more of an edge to get athletic kids, especially those near inner cities.
ACC’s losses are to AAAA schools.
So let me get this straight then, Allentown Allen has an enrollment of 1382 and Dieruff has 807. You are saying that ACC would not benefit at all from taking a good athlete or two from these schools. I know these schools are struggling academically because of their circumstances and they would be perfect for the voucher process.

  4. Hey S –

For your information ACC does NOT get their kids from out of state. The majority of them go to the local catholic grade schools. I’m not saying we don’t get a transfer or two. Every school does whether they are a catholic school or not. What would you say if I told you that half of our kids who go to catholic grade schools end up going to Emmaus high school which is a public school. But that’s ok. Nobody ever says anything when that happens which is a joke! As far as Valley View is concerned, I just finished watching that 6 minute clip against Dallas. If they play that way against us the mercy rule will go into effect by halftime. Best bet is if their bus breaks down on the way down to the game. Because the public address announcer will get hoarse from saying Nosovitch pass complete to Gulyas for the Central Catholic touchdown over and over and over again!

  5. S, where do you get off guy? Where do you get this nonsense about ACC? What do you know about ACC to say that they get kids from out of state? Let me see if I can set you straight on this so you don’t go rambling about stuff you have absolutely no clue about. First of all, ACC by male enrollment is a AA school playing up to AAA and they’re not eve close to moving up to AAAA. Over 90% of the kids that go to ACC come from the small feeder parochial schools in the Diocese on Allentown. The current crop (and last years state title)team is comprised of kids that have been playing together since elementary in the Little Vikings football program. Your argument about catholic schools recruiting and getting kids from all over the place is just the same old excuse. ACC, the defending AAA state champion, has 5 losses this year all at the hands of public schools. Do your homework before you post pal!

  6. Yeah, the District 2 meeting is tomorrow. VV is staying AAA and Western Wayne and Montrose are moving to AAA as of right now with numbers. Those numbers may change but WW and Montrose are closer to AA than VV. It’s not a big deal, they are competing well. ACC will also be closer to moving to AAAA, a move that will most likely happen by the next cycle. Personally, all private schools should have to compete in AAAA in my opinion. VV’s boundaries are less than 5 square miles. ACC gets kids from out of state. The PCL teams and all other private schools should have to compete in AAAA or create an all public and all private state championship. Wait till the vouchers by our ‘intellectual’ governor kick in. The PCL teams, ACC, and all other private schools around inner city areas will be getting all the athletes. I say let them play Don Bosco Prep (no school from PA can compete with them) or Burgen Cath. from NJ. They are only an hour away and are 5 years ahead of where our private schools will be from now.

  7. Johnny Mo
You said it correctly, “Until the Eastern Final”.. LOL. We cant start our bantor back and forth until the week of the Wood-ACC clash. Good luck vs VV, although i think you win by 3 TD’s minimum.

  8. s are you sure on that valley view staying at aaa.i was told and i have no hard numbers that lake lehman western wayne and wyoming area were close to aaa and the valley view might go down ???

  9. Bill its true that we only won against .500 or less teams but in all the games we were never truly out of it we wouldve beat 10-1 nazareth if it werent for a missed field goal as time expired. It was our defense that needed Improvement.but now that were in the playoffs I dont see anyone stopping us untill the eastern final. We could have easily put 30 more points on the board but the coachs bench the starters after the third

  10. Having a neutral perspective, the game should be a good one this weekend. ACC has an excellent offense and VV has an excellent defense. It should be interesting to watch a more old school team play a spread offense that is explosive. I’d say the edge goes to ACC with their team experience playing in the state playoffs however these are kids and anything can happen with kids. Enjoy the game.

Valley View will stay at AAA classification in the next cycle.

  11. First congrats to ACC- Good coaching and Play.but
All you great coaches. ACC has a very good team but If you look .They have 4-5 wins against teams with losing records. in fact I believe the best team they beat was A 6-5 team or maybe 7-4. As for the people who watched the dallas game . It was not a great performance.Try checking out the scranton game, or the crestwood game or they d valley game. I m sure it will be a good game , but johnny-(d) I believe you should check stats, factsand full information before you say silly statements.

  12. From a neutral perspective, the game should be an entertaining one with the offensive explosiveness of ACC and VV’s defense. The edge looks like it goes to ACC with the experience and tougher regular season schedule. You never know what can happen though as these teams are kids and kids do funny things under different circumstances. Enjoy the game!

Valley View will remain an AAA school next year. The number changes every cycle due to the changes of enrollment of other schools. The PIAA won’t have 120 AA schools and only 90 AAA schools. They adjust the numbers to get each classification a similar amount of schools.

  13. @ VV fans. The game will be played @ Bethlehem Area School District Stadium. It’s a nice turf field in excellent condition. About 12,000 seat stadium, the downfall is parking sucks!! Watching tapes of both teams, VV must play assignment football on D. ACC will play balance FB 50/50 pass/run, the only way VV keeps it close is great D, and RUN the ball, to set up the pass. ACC 30-14!!! Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy the game on Fri.

  14. dan their is a good chance we will be going down have to wait for the numbers a few building projects in the area might push the number up

  15. valley view looks really slow and the coverage doesn’t really look good either if their dbacks are gonna try and tackle gulyas like then i say ACC wins 49-0

  16. Mark, will Valley View remain at AAA next year. Im not sure when they recount the enrollments but I do know that Valley View was only (1) student over the AA maximum for football.

  17. It was a great game. Two very evenly matched teams playing very hard on defense. I take exception though for the guy to say zapoticky isn’t a good QB. He led the WVC in passing and I believe the LFC as well. Good luck VV moving forward in the playoffs. Congratulations to Dallas on a great season. It’s possible both of these teams will see each other next season. Dallas returns seven starters on offense, and six on Defense.

  18. Way to go Valley View! And now its time to get crushed by ACC, who after a slow start to the season have hit their stride… Personally, I can’t wait for the ACC-Wood Eastern final rematch, which Wood will win handily.

  19. mounts98 that not true the field got so bad in 99 during the valley view and dallas game it what made district 2 go to the neutral site games kids get hurt on a field like that i dont think it was a good game for either team would love to see them play on a good field

  20. Why do you think Dallas fans are poor sports… It was a great defensive game. BOTH teams made mistakes and a hard questionable hit to the Dallas QB, but unfortionately, Dallas made more mistakes at the end of the game. Dan is right…. everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Congratulations to both Dallas and Valley View on a great season.
