DALLAS – Valley View scored 18 unanswered points and quarterback Liam Callejas hit Brian Lalli for a 16-yard strike for the game-winning pass with 1:11 remaining in an 18-12 win over Dallas area in the District 2 Class 3A championship game Saturday afternoon.

Dallas capitalized on a Valley View turnover driving five plays for the score. Shane Dunn made a circus catch in the end zone for a one-yard pass from Ryan Zapoticky.  The kick was blocked and Dallas led 6-0.

Valley View’s second turnover of the first quarter turned into more points for Dallas. Paul Brace intercepted a Callejas pass and took it 26-yards for the score. The two-point conversion failed and Dallas led 12-0 with 2:24 remaining in the first quarter.

In a turnover filled first half, Valley View recovered a fumble in Dallas territory. Pat Jeffers 10-yard scamper cut Dallas lead in half, 12-6.

The next two drives ended in interceptions by both teams. After a sloppy first half that saw lots of penalty and five turnovers, Dallas led 12-6 at halftime.

After a scoreless third quarter Valley View finally got the big play late in the fourth quarter. Callejas hit a wide-open Lalli for a 75-yard bomb to tie the game up at 12 with 2:56 remaining in the game.

On Dallas’s next possession they turned the ball over on their first play for the fifth time and Valley View’s Brian Lalli recovered it.

With 1:11 left in the game, Callejas made the biggest throw of the year hitting Lalli for the 16-yard touchdown and the District 2 Class 3A title.

Valley View’s quarterback Liam Callejas finished the day passing for 84 yards and two scores. Brian Lalli had 91 yards receiving and one fumble recovery.

Valley View (11-1) plays Allentown Central Catholic (7-5) at BASD Stadium Friday night at 7pm in the first round of the PIAA 3A playoffs.

  1. No one is being a poor sport or crying about the outcome of a great football game. Afterall I did congratulate the Valley View Cougars on the win and the best of luck against ACC! This is a message board where opinions will be made whether you agree with them or not! And it was just my opinion that Dallas outplayed Valley View for the majority of the game. Afterall Dallas held the lead for nearly 40 out of a total 48 minutes. I never said Dallas dominated Valley View, because that certainly would not be true, but Dallas certainly kept Valley View in check for the majority of the football game. As said by Valley View coach at halftime, it was a poor first half. Valley View won the football game. Congratulations. But dont get bitter when many feel Valley View was fortunate to walk away with a win.

  2. Um, Mark. Read again. I am defending Valley View. I am not going to disrespect Dallas, though. They are good football team that had a great season.

  3. All I see is crying by poor sport Dallas fans. Valley Views was not at thier best true. Off day(maybe) crappy field (likely) Good opponent(sure)
but guess what Valley View still overcame and won And They move on, be a proper sports and wish us luck. Either way were going to play Acc and if prepared properly will come out with a win. But again We play the game on the field and its 4 quarters. Not the first 4 minutes of the first.
Congats to Dallas on a good year and To THE VALLEY VIEW COUGARS- DISTRICT CHAMPS

  4. Hey Rex

You must have 0 football knowledge. Dallas only points came off vv early turn overs. The dallas offense actually scored nothing. Valley View DOMINATED AFTER THE first quarter. And if the refs had eyes they might have seen alot more holds by their defensive ends. check the game films. the field in Dallas was a joke and not suitable for a piaa play-off. Piaa should make sure a team has porper facilities. . That Fileld was looking for someone to get hurt.

  5. “Dog21:ACC will beat VV by 3-4 TDS if this 6 minute clip is any indication”

They may very well do that, but that’s why they play the games on the field, not on a message board.

“Dog21: VV lineman way too slow and DB’s are not going to be able to cover the ACC receivers.”

Anyone who would have played on that embarrassing field surface would have been deemed slow and they said the same thing about the VV DB’s against Scranton.

  6. “Dan: Could have put up more points, if it weren’t for costly turnovers and/or penalties.”

You are acting like Valley View didn’t have any costly turnovers or penalties. Really, stop making excuses. These were two evenly matched teams. Valley View made the bigger plays in the end. If Dallas would have dominated the whole game, they would have scored more than 6 points on offense. Don’t you think the Valley View defense had something to do with those turnovers? Two of the fumbles were on strips by VV linemen, one INT came when a DL leveled the QB as he released the football, Wartman hid in coverage for his INT and there was the snap over the QB’s head. The sixth turnover you refer to is a mystery to me but it does tell me how much you really paid attention to the game.

  7. Dog, thanks for the info. Let’s let the game be played, glad to see your sure of ACC, I love an honest person. Good luck Friday night. I know ACC is defending state champs and deservingly so, but we will be there with bells on my friend.

  8. ACC will beat VV by 3-4 TDS if this 6 minute clip is any indication and Wood will beat ACC by 3-4TD’s. VV lineman way too slow and DB’s are not going to be able to cover the ACC receivers.

  9. @ rciffo- thats why we play the game!! we will see how it goes. Anyways good luck with your ACC pick and hope its a great game. We Cougars wouldn’t what to dissappoint you. Good Luck

  10. I said Dallas outplayed VV for the majority of the game, because they simply did. It took Dallas’ 6th turnover for VV to finally capitalize and take the lead. And 90 out your total yards came at the end of the game (a 75 yard burner and a 15 yard td pass). VV was held in check up to this point. Why is it a joke that you were outplayed for the majority of a football game. Dallas failed to take advantage on several times they had the ball inside of the VV 35 yard line. Could have put up more points, if it weren’t for costly turnovers and/or penalties. But again, if you want to say my opinions are false then so be it. Its just an opinion that many will agree upon.

  11. You Valley View folks need to stop congratulating each other. If what I think is correct, next week you may have your butts handed to you by a 7-5 team…a very good 7-5 team who are the defending state champs with a passing game. Everyone knows high school pass defense is a joke. Wartman better have a huge game and sack Nosovitch 7-8 times or it could be an ACC track meet.

  12. Valley View only way to beat ACC, is if VV gets its running game going, and plays good Defense, bend but doesn’t break. good luck!!!!! Right now ACC is on Fire!!!

  13. Valley View wasn’t try impress anyone, Dan. They were just trying to win. That’s the bottom line there buddy.

And Dallas defense still played a great game. Not going to take anything away from a good football team who gave effort and 100% of everything they. But that potent Valley View running attack didn’t have their best day, partly because of the Dallas defense and they still ran for 180 yards.

  14. Dallas didn’t impress anybody either!! Plus on your home field!! Dallas QB was not good,The whole game was sloopy, penalties outrageous!! turnovers gallore. That’s what happens when you play on a shiity field which i would think Dallas would be used to.

  15. heres an unbiased OPINION from a district 2 fan on pennlive

“i was at the vv-dallas game today. vv did not impress me on offense at all. they scored first td after dallas fumbled on their own 35 yard line. trailed 12-6 after 3 quarters and was being outplayed by dallas. then their qb hit a 70 yard bomb to a wideout to tie the game. on the pat atempt dallas blocked the kick twice but they were called for being offsides. on the third try the kick was wide left. on dallas next possesion they fumbled again on their own 30 yard line. vv made a first down and then the vv qb hit a receiver on a slant play to go ahead. dallas qb suffered a blow to the head late in 3rd quarter and did not return, i was not impressed with the vv offense. if acc s offense is that good they will beat vv 35-14 and im a district 2 fan.”

  16. Bottomline. VV did not impress many people today. They couldn’t field a punt and the Dallas defense maintained there potent rushing attack.

  17. Early mistake? I don’t think so. Those Dallas kids played their hearts out and did a great job. It was not a huge blow out game. Dallas was leading most of that game. Yes, there were lots of mistakes and turnovers, but as soon as VV had that ball, Dallas defense stopped them. Losing Zapoticky and that last turnover made the difference.

  18. DAN,YOU FORGOT TO SAY DALLAS ONLY offensive SCORE CAME ON A TIPPED BALL FROM THE ONE YARDLINE, THAT SHOULD’VE BEEN INTERCEPTED, THAT A RESULT A VV FUMBLE, AND INTERCEPTION RETURN FOR A TD. DALLAS GOT THE BREAKS EARLY, VV GOT THEM IN THE END.HOWEVER Dallas’s defense did play a great game,Valley Views too!! The fumble at the end that led to the winning score, well that was just the football gods saying it was Valley Views game to win. what a game!!!!!

  19. Not sure what game you were watching. This game was pretty even the whole way with both defenses leading the way. Valley View outgained Dallas by 90 yards and Dallas could only manage 1 offensive TD and that came on a 4th and 1 and that took a circus catch. No doubt Zapoticky out changed the Dallas offense but they scored only one TD with him in the game. I hope the kid is okay. He does have one year remaining but I heard he had a concussion last week as well.

  20. Dan what a joke vv out played Dallas .Dallas held on just about every play, Dallas offense did nothing against the cougars it was early mistake that even gave Dallas chance.

  21. Dallas outplayed Valley View for the majority of this game. 5 turnovers, a blown coverage resulting in a 75 yard TD score, and the knockout hit to Dallas’ QB-Zapoticky was the difference. Congrats to VV and best of luck agains ACC.
