Football public address announcers and those who want to learn more about announcing football, including students, can attend either of two clinics in Pennsylvania this summer.  The early registration fee is $55 for adults and $25 for students.

Penn State University will host the first clinic on July 23 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.  Attendees will receive hands on training behind the mic from Dean DeVore, Penn State’s football P.A. announcer, who will coach and critique participants.  Attendees will have the opportunity to announce from the press box in Beaver Stadium.  Beaver Stadium, the home of the Nittany Lions, has a seating capacity of more than 107,000.

The second clinic will be at Ambridge High School in Pittsburgh from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.  Randy Cosgrove, Ambridge High School Director of Athletics and Stadium Announcer for the Pittsburgh Steelers will be the clinician.  The Ambridge High School Press Box will serve as a classroom for a portion of the clinic.  Under the direction of Mr. Cosgrove, attendees will go though a series of announcing exercises concerning the different types of pre, post and in-game announcements, as well as announce a simulated game when the Ambridge High School football team has an intra-squad workout in shorts and shirts.

Both events are sponsored by The National Association of Sports Public Address Announcers (NASPAA), the professional association for sports public address announcers.

“This is the third year that the NASPAA has conducted football P.A. announcers’ clinics in Pennsylvania,” commented Brad Rumble, NASPAA Executive Director.  “The support we have received from the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association, which in one of our Affiliate Members, and the Pennsylvania State Athletic Directors Association has been tremendous.”

Information about the clinics and registration may be obtained at www.naspaa.net.
