FOLSOM: Springfield and Ridley High Schools are separated by 2.84 miles. While the distance between the school is close this neighborhood rivarly had been one sided in favor of Ridley. To add fuel to this rivarly both teams entered the game unbeaten in the Central League and the winner would have the upper hand in claiming the Central League title.  The Green Raiders won the game 7-3  in a defensive battle.

After going three and out on the games opening series the Cougars punted the ball to the Green Raiders who need just three plays to go 48 yards before Rich Cola powered his way in from 21 yards out.

The Cougars got on the board following a 27 yard punt that was muffled and recovered by Sal Fox. Eight plays later Brad Lord nailed a 23-yard field goal.

From that point on both teams turned the game over to their defenses and both defenses responded. The Green Raiders held the Cougars potent rushing attack to 101 rushing yards and 116 total yards. While the Cougars held the Green Raiders to 151 rushing yards.

In his first game back from injury Cam Durham helped the Cougars with his sevens punts averaging 37 yards while being held in check carrying the ball 3 times for 4 yards.

The Cougars appeared to have caught a break late in the fourth quarter when it appeared that Zach Young picked a fumble and race down the sideline, but the officials ruled that runners knee was down. The Cougars did get the ball back with under a minute left but then turned the ball over on a fumble at midfield.

The Cougars 6-2 overal 6-1 in the Central League will look to rebound when the travel to take on Strath Haven, While the Green Raiders will look to stay perfect when they host Upper Darby.

Great Game as both defenses were very good. Ridley shot themselves in the foot several times which kept them off the scroeboard 2 additional times. Ridley would have a great play and then give it back on a penalty or worse poor play calling. Great example was at the end of the game when Ridley need to ice it, needing just a first down to win, they gained 8 yards on first down and then the genius OC decides a pitch play was the right move, which was dropped for an 8 yard loss, only to be bailed out by the QB scrambling for 15 on third down. Plays like that hurt you. They will have to correct that going forward. Hats off to Springfield though. Even though they are one dimensional, the defense is going to win them games. Once again nice defensive game!
