Philadelphia Northeast High’s Malik Stokes

It’s news that every quarterback in America likes to hear and that’s he’s getting a new weapon. That’s the news that Philadelphia Northeast High QB Malik Stokes got heading into his Sophomore season, but it wasn’t just any other weapon that Stokes was getting in fact it was someone that he has known all his life and dreamed of playing with all his life and that was his older brother Je’Ron.” I never thought it was going to happen because he was at Penn Charter. I was happy about because I got (big) brother on the field with me.” Je’Ron just transferred from Penn Charter where he four passes for 43 yards and a touchdown. Je’Ron said “I felt like it was a good opportunity for us to help each other and compete it worked out for the best’’ when asked about his transfer.

The Stokes’ wasted little time showing what they could do on the field together. In their first game, together Je’Ron broke the schools record for most yards receiving in a game with 177 on just five catches and two touchdowns. Malik would only complete one other pass in the 20-14 lost to Norristown. In their fourth game of the season, the Stokes got their first victory of the season by virtue of defeating Roxborough 32-0. Two weeks later Je’Ron broke the schools record for most receiving yards in a season with 447 yards. Je’Ron would finish the season with 28 catches for 617 and Malik would finish with 78 yard completions for 1256 and 13 touchdown passes 6 of which went to Je’Ron. The Stokes’ would lead the Vikings to a 7-4 record.

Last season was a big year for the Stokes’ not only did Je’Ron commit to play for the University of Tennessee but it would be last season they had together and they made the most of it leading the Vikings to a 7-5 record before bowing out to George Washington in the Public League Championship game 41-34 in triple overtime. On September 5^th Malik put his name in the record books when he broke the schools record for most yards passing in a game with 253 against Father Judge. Malik would complete 113 of 226 passes for 1379 yards and 11. Je’Ron accounted for 45 of those completions for 555 yards and five touchdowns.

When Lane Kiffin took over the Volunteers Je’Ron decided to sign with the University of Michigan. Malik is receiving interest from Louisville, South Carolina, Pitt, Boston College and Michigan. When asked about how Je’Ron is helping him with recruiting Malik responded “ I know what to expect and look for in a college and being humble about it”. When asked what draws college coaches to Malik Je’Ron responded, “he has the intellence, accuracy on the deep ball, touch and velocity and a passion of the game.”
