RADNOR: Perhaps Archbishop Carroll Head Coach Dan Bielli said it best when he said “it’s extremely painful when your 1-3 and you’re practicing hard” after all it’s not everyday that your team gets out gained 297 to 110 yards and only mange three first downs compare to your opponents 11 but that was the case Friday night at Prevost Field as the visiting Bishop McDevitt Lancers spoiled the Patriots homecoming in a Philadelphia Catholic League AA Division contest.

The Lancers came away with the victory thanks in large part to their running game which churned out 201 yards on 42 carries including a 133 yard on 25 carries from Gary Postell. On the game opening drive the Lancers looked posed to take an early lead driving all the way down to the Patriots 34 before Drew Siegfried was intercepted in the end zone by Luke Lyons.

The Lancers would have another chance to score before the intermission driving down to Patriots 5 yard line before Siegfried was intercepted for the second time this time by Greg DiSanto at the one yard line. The Patriots would proceed to run out the clock sending the game into halftime scoreless.

The Lancers wasted little time scoring on their first possecion of the second half has they drove 68 yards on plays thanks to Siegfried, Postell and Matt Conroy. It would be Siegfried would sneak his way in from a yard out. “That was good drive our running backs, receivers made plays and our line played good the whole game, I just kept my legs driving.” Is what Siegfried would have to say about the drive and the touchdown. When asked about his performance said “ it was good but as team as a whole we made a few mistakes we got stuff to work on.

From there the Lancers turned the game over to their defense and did they ever respond by not allowing the Patriots to pass the Lancers 40 yard line and held the Patriots wing t offense to just one first down in the second half.

The Lancers 5-0 overall and 2-0 in Catholic League AA division play got the confidence they need from this game. Lancer Head Coach Pat Manzi said “it’s a really good thing to play in with a good football team that could had gone anyway but we found away to win it and that’s a good thing.” The Lancers will take on the Cardinal Dougherty Cardinals while the Patriots will travel to take on the North Catholic Falcons in a non league game next Saturday.
