DOWNINGTOWN – Prior to Sunday’s PSFCA East West game, the last time Downingtown East’s Kyle Lauletta walked off the Kottmeyer Stadium turf was a time that he would most likely want to forget. We rewind back to November when Lauletta and his top seeded Cougars were upset by the 16th seed, Wissahickon Trojans, in the opening round of the PIAA District 1 playoffs. Now we take you back to Sunday when Lauletta, a Richmond committ, got redemption completeing 10 of 15 passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns to propel the East to a 47-28 victory. “I was excited to hear the game was at Kottmeyer, my home stadium for the past 3 or 4 years,” Lauletta said adding that it was an awesomee atmosphere.

The East offense came out firing taking their first series and marching 77 yards on seven plays with help of two big pass plays, one a piece from Coatesville’s Emmett Hunt who connected with Diante Cherry (Lancaster McCaskey) for a 31 yard gain on their first play of the game and the other was the drive capper with Lauletta connecting with Ronald Womack (West Catholic) for a 34 yard scoring strike.

Following a fumble that was recovered by Central Dauphin’s Daylin Russo at the West’s 20, Lauletta again took to the air and found Womack for a 12 yard gain that put the ball at the West eight yard line. Three plays later Lauletta sneaked his way into the end zone from two yards out.

The West cut the lead in half in the second quarter with a one yard touchdown sneak from Thomas Jefferson’s Joe Carroll.

The East responded with the Coatesville connection of Hunt to Chris Jones who made an outstanding grab in the endzone for the 35 yard touchdown to put the East up 20 to 7 at the half.

The West struck first in the second half following an interception of Lauletta by West Mifflin’s Derrick Fulmore that was returned to East’s four yard line. Seneca Valley’s Jordan Brown connected with North Allegany’s Kevin Edwards for the touchdown.

Central Dauphin’s Drew Scales would score East’s next touchdown from 4 yards out.

West would counter with an 11 yard touchdown pass from Brown to Dante Marsick. Before Scales and Hunt sealed the East victory with touchdown runs in the fourth quarter.
