RUNNINGBACKS:

Travontai Davis of Pottsville rushed for 244 yards and 2 td’s in their win over Bangor and in the process went over 1,000 yards rushing for the season.  Davis currently has 1,160 yards and he’s scored 15 td’s.  Nick Beck of Salisbury had his first 200 yard game when he rushed for 220 yards in their loss to Northern Lehigh.  Clarence Watkins of Allen had his 2nd 200 yard game last week when he rushed for 225 yards and 3 td’s in their win over ES North.  Matt Machalik of Palmerton rushed for 217 yards and 4 td’s in their win over Minersville.  Machalik actually set Palmerton’s single season td record in week 8 when he had a total of 22 td’s.  He leads the District with 26 td’s and has also passed for 1,016 yards this season.  Mike Stasko held the old Bomber record when he scored 21 td’s in 2015.  With his 1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards passing this season Machalik joins former Bombers Matt Falcone (1998) and Tekoah Guedes (2017) in accomplishing that feat.  Deante’ Crawford of Freedom is 2nd in the District with 19 touchdowns and went over 1,000 yards rushing this season (1,057).  Andre Reames of Stroudsburg also went over 1,000 yards rushing this season when he went 74 yards for a td vs ES South last week.  Jaden Bownes of PM West also went over 1,000 yards on the season and now has 1,003 yards.  Josh Chowansky of North Schuylkill still leads all rushers with his 1,328 yards this season.  Justin Holmes of Northwestern went over 1,000 yards passing last week and needs 27 yards rushing to hit the 1,000 yard mark.  For his career Holmes has scored 44 td’s and passed for 31 more.

QUARTERBACKS:

Jake Hall of North Schuylkill threw for 263 yards and 4 td’s in their win over Tamaqua.  Hall went over 2,000 yards passing on the season and now has 2,016 yards.  Hall has 27 td’s passes this season which is a new school record.  Bobby Grigas held the old record when he threw for 26 td’s in 2014 as a junior.  Bobby Moyer threw for 24 td’s in 1999 to round out the top 3 at North Schuylkill.  Hall has 53 career td passes and needs 2 more to break the school record of 54 that Grigas threw from 2012-15.  John Adams of Minersville leads the District with 2,223 yards passing.  He needs 27 yards to break Scott Schwalm’s school record of 2,249 yards that he set in 2019.  Adams threw 2 td’s last week to break the tie he had with Schwalm for single season td passes.  Schwalm threw 21 td passes in 2019 while Adams now has 23 on the season.  Danny Darno of Notre Dame threw for 289 yards and 3 td’s in their win over Pen Argyl.  Trey Dogmantis of Whitehall and Brian Taylor of Freedom each had their first 200 yard passing game.  Dogmantis threw for 253 yards in their loss to Nazareth.  Taylor threw for 249 yards in their win over Bethlehem Catholic which put him over 1,000 yards for the season (1,114 yards).  Dylan Smoyer of Northern Lehigh had his 2nd 200 yard game when he threw for 209 yards and 3 td’s in their win over Salisbury.  Smoyer has thrown 30 career td passes which ties the school record that Don Rubright set in the 1969 and 1970 seasons.  Smoyer needs 113 yards to break the school career passing yardage record.  Rubright has the record with 2,561 yards.  Jayce Carbello-Snowell of Pottsville went over 1,000 yards passing for the season and now has thrown for 1,072 yards and 11 td passes.  Cole Transue of Easton threw for 203 yards in their win over Emmaus and in the process went over 3,000 yards in his career.  Transue has thrown for 3,176 yards and 25 td passes in his career.  Owen Kosar of Shenandoah Valley went over 2,000 yards passing in his career and currently has thrown for 2,046 yards and 14 td passes.  Two more qb’s also went over 1,000 yards passing for the season.  Cooper King of Northampton has thrown for 1,087 yards and 14 td’s and Isaac Whiteash of Williams Valley has thrown for 1,022 yards this year and 9 td passes.

RECEIVERS:

Zack Gillen of Wilson caught 10 passes for 137 yards and 3 td’s in their win over Blue Mountain.  Gillen now has 143 career receptions putting him in 11th place all-time in the District.  He needs 2 more catches to move ahead of Jeff McGeehin of Central Catholic (1971-73) and Jake Del Priore of Southern Lehigh (2011-13).   Gillen also joined the “2,000 yard” club and now has 2,124 career receiving yards.  He’s currently in 17th place all-time in the District.  He needs 2 yards to move ahead of Fenton Black of Panther Valley (2,125 yards – 1990-92) and 6 yards to move ahead of Tim Walter of Southern Lehigh (2,129 yards – 2014-16).  Trevor Amorim of Northern Lehigh had another big game when he caught 6 passes for 164 yards and 2 td’s last week vs Salisbury.  Amorim who has the career reception yardage record is closing in on 3 more records.  His 83 career receptions is 6 behind school record holder Steve Hluschak.  Hluschak racked up 89 catches from 1997-99.  Amorim has 18 career td grabs which is 3 behind record holder Duke Lilly who had 21 from 1966-68.  He also needs 50 yards to break the single season reception yardage record.  Lilly holds that with his 856 yards he had in 1968.  North Schuylkill’s Joey Flail went over 1,000 career yards receiving last week and now has 1,002 yards.  The sophomore has 59 career catches with 14 of them going for td’s.  Flail joins Amorim with over 800 yards receiving this year.  Flail leads the District 831 yards and Armorim is 2nd with 807 yards.  Joey Vevasis of Shenandoah Valley leads the District with 52 receptions and Flail is 2nd with his 48 grabs.  Jason Cullen of Minersville continued his big game streak when he caught 4 passes for 138 yards and a td last week.  His last 3 game totals are 13 catches for 468 yards and 6 td grabs.  Let’s go back a few years and remember 2 players that put up record breaking 3 game totals.  The all-time District leader Kevin Gulyas of Central Catholic had a 3 game stretch catching a whopping 39 passes for 563 yards and 9 td’s in 2011.  A year later in 2012 Wilson’s Zach Bogoly caught 33 passes for an amazing 652 yards and 7 td’s in a 3 game stretch.  Pen Argyl sophomore Damian Tyminski caught 7 passes for 140 yards and a td vs Notre Dame last week.  Tyminski’s 42 receptions and 772 receptions yards this season are now school records.  Tim Hahn held the single season reception record when he caught 34 passes in 1989.  Tyler Germano held the old record for most reception yards in a season when he had 726 yards in 2000.  Tyminski has 8 td catches this year and is 1 behind record holder Austin Williams who had 9 in 2008.  Tyminski is currently tied with Nick Oyer who had 8 td grabs in 2013.  Colin Burdian of ES South caught 5 passes for 87 yards and 3 td’s last week in their win over Stroudsburg.
