Big Second Half Propels St. Joe’s Prep Over Archbishop Wood 38-20

WARMINSTER – “Consistency” was the message St. Joe’s Prep Head Coach Tim Roken delivered to his team this week.  It has been an uncharacteristic up and down year for Prep this season. Coach Roken and the Hawks came up against a very formidable opponent in a fellow PCL Archbishop Wood squad Saturday.  The only PA blemish for the Vikings this season and Head Coach Matt Walps’ squad was against a solid Malvern Prep team.  Saturday’s game between these two rivals was a tale of two halves.  The first half, was crazy, a slugfest, had turnovers, defensive scores and big plays.  The second half, a solid, dominating, patented,Prep performance.  That second half “consistency” gave St. Joe’s Prep(4-2) an impressive 38-20 victory over a very tough Archbishop Wood (5-3) Vikings squad.

St. Joe’s Prep Head Coach Tim Roken had some great postgame comments.

St. Joe’s Prep started out strong.  They took the opening kick right down the field for a TD.

On the next Prep possession, it was the Wood D that would shine with a pick six by Andrew McHugh!

The second defensive score of the first half was really crazy, maybe the wildest play we have seen in some time that put Prep up 14-7. Matt Dumond picks up a fumble deep in his own end, rumbles down the field ,then has the presence of mind to lateral to Josiah Trotter for a score.  Watch this one on the big screen for the full effect!

Remember this name gang, Ricardo Delgado.  This guy is a beast, and he is fast.  Watch Delgado take this screen pass and outrun the St. Joe’s Prep defense to the end zone.

One of the best kickers in PA, Antonio Chadha boots one through as the first half ends to stretch the Prep lead.

Wood did not quit coming out of the locker room.  The Vikings took the lead mid way through the third quarter.

It did not take long for St Joe’s Prep to get control of this game.  Led by QB Samaj Jones, Prep took the lead for good on their next possession.

St. Joe’s Prep put up 14 unanswered in quarter four to finish off Wood 38-20.
