Berwick cruises past Tunkhannock, improves to 5-1

So. WR Andrew Force gains 132 yards receiving with two TD’s

The Berwick Bulldogs played host to the Tunkhannock Tigers at Crispin Memorial Field Friday night in Wyoming Valley Conference action. It would be the 22^nd time that both teams would meet with Berwick coming in with a 20-1 series record against the Tigers. The Dawgs only lost to Tunkhannock came in their first meeting in 1987, which is infamously known as the “Ice Bowl”. Berwick was defeated 7-6 in below freezing temperatures in what was the Eastern Conference semifinal. The very next year the PIAA state tournament was created with the Dawgs winning their first state title.

The Dawgs were able to make it 21 straight against the Tigers recording a 49-0 win at home in this one. Jr. QB CJ Curry would pass for 201 yards on just five completions with two huge TD passes to So. WR Andrew Force. Force would haul one in for 77 yards and then another for 55 yards both finding paydirt.

Berwick would also get scores from Sr. WR Jake Pecorelli on a 32 yard reception, Jr. Kyle Trenholm on a 77 yard kick return, Sr. RB Matt Cashman on a one yarder and then again on a four yarder. Capping the scoring on the night would be So. RB Nick Talanca on a five yard dash to cash.

“It was nice to contribute tonight,” said Force of his two big TD’s from Curry. “Being a sophomore, it’s all about getting experience right now so that I can improve the next two seasons,” noted Force.

Berwick would finish with 393 yards total offense on the night, with huge pass plays from the line of scrimmage leading the way along with the big kick return from Trenholm.

With the win, the Dawgs have improved to 5-1 with Williamsport up next at home. Then it’s on the road to Yatesville for Pittston Area and then Wilkes-Barre Memorial for Coughlin. Berwick will end the regular season at home with Hazleton Area with the possibility of a home playoff game the next week. Of course, the outcome of the next four will play a big part in getting a home playoff game.

   Unbelievable that this is a game of the week for district 2 when you had The Battle of the Bell (Scranton vs. West Scranton) and Abington Heights vs. Valley View (Crucial game for the AAA playoff hunt). We understand that Curry is back for Berwick, but you don’t have to cover everyone of their games because of it.
