In an Open Division Semi Final Round of the CIF Sectional Football Playoff contest, the top seeded Dons of Cathedral Catholic defeated the Grizzlies at 7-5 of Mission Hills High School by a 44-21 score.

Chris Hauser Mission Hills Football Coach: “We weren’t consistent enough on both sides of the ball as they scored 44 points on the board and they did much better then what we did.” “We had an opportunity to get the right players in the game but we were hit with too many players on the field penalty.”

“We moved the ball we fumbled on our short plays but our offensive line did well pass protecting which created a lot of problems for us when it came to open holes for the backs. ” Jack Tuttle is a high level quarterback and does what he can and plays to the best of his ability.” “Sam Dixon’s first touchdown was the big play but in the second half Cathedral Catholic intercepted Jack Tuttle’s pass but we have come a long ways started off we have 21 of our starters are new and Jack Tuttle improving a lot at qb along with an amazing 7-5 we put a magical game together vs. Oceanside the Grossmont game will be the big upset one on the ages these kids look on the season and hats off to them.”

The Dons led 14-0 after the first period on Jordan Genmark Heath’s 1 yard run along with Tate Hayes (7 completions out of 15 attempts for 108 yards) connected on his first of four touchdown passes of 24 yards to Antoine Lee (2 receptions for 39 yards) before Grizzly running back Sam Dixon 11 carries for 60 yards scored the first touchdown on an 8 yard run to go within 14-7. The Dons scored 2 more touchdowns to go up 27-7 on Tate Haynes’ 2nd touchdown a 24 yarder to Patrick Brown (3 receptions for 64 yards) and his 3rd touchdown to Adam Eastwood on a 6 yarder before Grizzly qb Jack Tuttle 22 completions out of 39 attempts for 270 yards threw a touchdown pass to Mission Hills teammate Ian Fryday (4 receptions for 27 yards) for 13 yards to go within 27-14.

After the Dons scored 2 more touchdowns on Tate Haynes 9 yard pass to Jack Thompson along with a 27 yard field goal by Liam King, Mission Hills scored their last touchdown of the game as qb Jack Tuttle threw his second touchdown pass to Louis Flores( 3 receptions for 23 yards) for 16 yards to make the final score 44-21 in favor of Central Catholic.

Cathedral Catholic Coach Sean Doyle: “This is huge win for our squad today and after a 2 year wait of falling short in the CIF Section Semi Finals we finally achieved our goal by reaching the championship round,” “Tate Haynes is a good player and his passes were outstanding along with Jordan Genmark Heath made a nice running pattern and tried to draw Mission Hills off sides they did a good job staying in the game.”

“Two of Tate Haynes passes was he forced the ball too much and he took off running and made great decisions as in we have good athletes that they stepped up and were blessed .” Now we have to go to the drawing board on how we’re going to prepare to play Helix for the second time.” said Coach Doyle
Notes: This is the second time in the Cathedral Catholic went undefeated since 2008 Cathedral Catholic and Helix met the previous time on the Don’s Field where Cathedral Catholic won 35-28.
