I didn’t watch the games since I don’t have PCN, but I’m gonna give my thoughts on the games
1A: Clairton dominated BG from start to finish. A very impressive effort by the Bears to get their first title in a minute. They should be strong again next year, so I wouldn’t be shocked if they return.
4A: I didn’t expect this outcome at all. I felt that Twin Valley was going to be the better team, but Solehi’s running game really showed up. Gotta give credit to Steckert for having that kind of game. Very impressive performance for D11’s Sparty & a nice prize for the Colonial League, considering the latter game’s outcome. They join NW Lehigh & Wilson Area as Colonial League teams that have won state titles.
2A: Wow. It happened again. Southern Columbia dominates a state title game. Honestly, they need to go up to 3A. People might disagree, but I wish that classifications weren’t set primarily set by size, but rather by competitiveness that factors in with it, with promotion & relegation, with something like Ohio’s system for regions. Southern should be 3A, maybe 4A if 3A is a cakewalk. Rather than think of that kind of thing a negative, it should be seen as a good thing. I’d rather see a team move up to a higher class to test themselves than stick in a class that’s basically theirs to lose forever.
5A: Roman got their first football title & it wasn’t really as close as I expected. Once Jeff said it could be a track meet, I shifted my mindset to that being what I thought would happen, but it didn’t. 6A is loaded next year. Poor District 1 & 11. We desperately need separation of public & private in PA. Unless ECP, Wood, & Imhotep drop down, which honestly both should stay even if they don’t get district titles, 5A might see an all-public final.
3A: NW Lehigh got dominated. Very surprised by the outcome, but it must make up beating a Tigers nicknamed team after losing to one last year (& getting their revenge) & getting curb-stomped by one of the greatest teams in history. It’d be interesting if both teams move up to the 4A level next year, but they won’t. NW Lehigh, especially, would be a strong contender in 4A D11 (they did somewhat in the past when they had the enrollment to fit in the class), while Avonworth probably would hold their own, kinda like Wyo has. Probably would be similar to how Central Valley plays in 4A.
6A: Well, color me shocked. PCC-La Salle had intrigue & stayed close. I did say that PCC would hang around for a while & La Salle would pull away. This was the best game of the weekend, which honestly is disappointing because many of the other games felt like they were gonna be good.
Not the greatest weekend in PIAA state finals history, but we did get three new champions. Here’s to optimistically hoping we double that up next year, as it’d be refreshing to see some new blood rather than the rematches.
Will do my end of season post tomorrow, maybe tonight if I’m able to.
You really don’t have a clue about most of what your posting
Who you talking to righty
So keep moving up a class until you don’t win anymore. Yeah that’s what I would do to high school kids who are living within there schools boundaries and not recruiting kids into there school. Lol. And yes I would move them up until they play mcdevitt and st. Joe’s prep and LaSalle so that a small rural school with boundaries in elysburg Pennsylvania plays schools from Harrisburg and Philadelphia who do not have boundaries and are 4 times your size. It makes perfect sense lol
Arguably the worst year for the PIAA in championship history. None of the games were close except for 6A. Speaking of 6A, Lasalle’s 14 point margin of victory was the lowest in the ten years of 6A, unseating Mt. Lebanons 18 point victory. Great job Dr. Lombardi!
2021 is probably the gold standard when it comes to entertainment value for State title games
Mt. Lebanon 35, St. Joseph’s Prep 17
Penn-Trafford 17, Imhotep Charter 14
Aliquippa 34, Bishop McDevitt 27
Central Valley 7, Wyomissing Area 0
Southern Columbia 62, Serra Catholic 25
Bishop Guilfoyle 21, Redbank Valley 14
They was a big TD for LaSalle to end the half and they can double up with the second half kick just like SL did who would have thought before the weekend that the 6A game might end up being the most competitive.
I haven’t dug into the new enrollments / classifications or the success factor impact for next cycle, but I believe Roman, McDevitt, and Father Judge are currently the only private programs in 5A. Judge went 3-8 this season, so unless someone else is moving up or down into 5A, I’d expect your hope for an all public 5A final next year to come about.
Also, unless I missed it, the only game ANY private school in 5A or 6A lost to a public program all year in PA was McDevitt losing to Harrisburg 29-21 in August (not counting Clarkson North as a “public” for these purposes since it’s not a 1-to-1 comparison).
Erie cathedral prep was way down this year and lost to 3 public schools including Mcdowell, General McLane and got crushed by Farrell in their last game of the year but your point is well taken. I would guess ECP will moving back to 4A for the next cycle.
Yeah, I was looking at 5A as well as potentially being pretty wide open and public centric. Depends if McDevitt and Roman get bumped up with the transfers. Need at least 5 now. Also, depends on how you classify Imhotep and if they can move down to 5A. If they are back at 5A, let’s just sat they’ll have a longer season next year than they did the past 2 years.
I consider Imhotep a non-boundary/private and if they are back in 5A they will be the favorite in the east. I think Roman has enough transfers to be moved up not sure about Mcdevitt.
I should have realized Luca Neal was not going to let Avonworth lose today regardless of whether Dimitri Velisaris played just like Sean Steckert was not going to let SL lose the other night.
That may have been the worst half of football NW has played in years. I am not sure why they haven’t switched Lagowy to cover 6 one on one instead of Leh, Leh is getting worked. In my opinion that was the biggest mistake of the 1st half. NW has done well against the run, even got 2 turnovers and still down by double digits. The presnap penalties have been there all year and finally coming back to haunt them.
6 is a game breaker for Avonworth, qb is playing really well too.
NW needed to get the game to 10 at half to have a shot. Wish we would be seeing a better game here, teams are more even matched than the current score but with Avonworth getting the ball first in the 2nd half, this game is over.
i thought i remembered leh playing more safety than corner but could be wrong with that. either way…putting him on an island not only cost us defensively but we asked him to turn around and be the difference maker on offense. not a wr or rb either. every play went through him as qb where he was under a lot of pressure.
i’m not sure anything could have been done to change the outcome though. they proved their balance on offense and their strength up front really showed up in how they got after our quarterback and protected their own. it showed up in other ways too like slowing our running game…but it was frustrating to force 2 fumbles from neal and not be able to take advantage. we might have played with more pace in the offense and not abandoned the running game so early if we had known the 2nd half was only going to be 7-0.
how do you feel about nw next year? my takeaway is we had a really solid team this year and it shows where we’ve come as a program to get back to the final. i don’t think we had a lot of home run hitters and we’ve been bigger up front in past years. it took a little more scheme and adjustments to move the ball on offense. the most telling play of the game was the 4th down to start the 2nd quarter where we ran the counter criss cross type play instead of going straight at them. you’re in trouble if you feel like you need to surprise them in those situations…especially that early in the game. they attacked us downhill and made everything uncomfortable.
Yep I thought the same thing NW needed to score before the half and cut it to 10 to have a realistic shot because Avonworth can bleed the clock with Neal which is what they have done.
Im happy southern won but there people crawl from everywhere after they win with stupid statements and I wish they could be muted. Also southern lehigh winning a state title doesn’t mean anything for the 3a state final. Somehow northwestern lehigh becomes better? What? Avonworth becomes a weaker team? Please
honestly i was just looking for some sign of hope that we could knock off avonworth. they’re a great team and proved it on saturday.
Many years ago, under the original ownership, this was a fun forum. It seems to have devolved to a handful of self anointed “experts” wishing to grace football fans with their opinions, instead of just sharing a camaraderie of high school football.
congratulation’s to southern columbia. i don’t know how they do it,but coach roth and the tigers are amazing. congratulations, well done.
Avonworth starting RB Dimitri Velisaris did not play last week due to a leg injury he suffered in the wpial final against Imani. If he can’t play today or is limited Avonworth will have a tough time winning this game because their offense is a lot more balanced and explosive when he plays. I’ve liked Avonworth to win a state title all year and I’m not going to change my mind now so I’ll pick Avonworth 35-31 in another classic but I have a hunch NW Lehigh finds a way to win this game.
In the nightcap PCC has improved significantly since their week 0 game at the Wolvarena I attended and I expect they will score more than 6 points and this game will be closer than a lot of people expect but the outcome will be the same I’ll take LaSalle 35-20.
Final Picks.
We got a rematch that should be epic. Avonworth is looking for revenge after last year’s loss, while it’s no secret that NW Lehigh wants to win back-to-back & keep expanding their win streak. I think we see revenge, as much as I want the Eastern rep to win. They’re due for a loss, but I think it’ll be very close. Avonworth 28-27. That makes it two WPIAL champions after being shut out last year, to make the Western PA crowd happy! It spoils below though…
6A: For once, we don’t get SJP. We still get two private schools. I just want a public/public 6A final. We’re due. The only consolation is that we get a rare Week 1 rematch in the state finals. Do you guys know when the last time that’s ever happened in the PIAA football titles? I wish that I knew for myself, so those with more knowledge than me, let me know. We saw La Salle take it at Wolvarena in August & I think we may see some of the same. I’m not saying that PCC gets their revenge, but I feel Damar Hamlin’s Alma Mater will compete & hang around for a while with Abdul Carter’s. La Salle gets it 34-21.
@ D2 Fan – I am not aware of there ever being a rematch of a regular season game in the state final but would have to do some research to confirm. I sat on the LaSalle side during the game at the Wolvarena because they were considered the “home” team and I said to some of the LaSalle fans it could be a preview of the state title game and here we are.
Unfortunately I think the days of an all public school final in the top classification are over as long as the PCL is competing in the championships the last time we had 2 publics was 2012 when NA beat Coatesville. We can hope for an all public 5A final next year if Roman and Mcdevitt get bumped up to 6A due to the success rule.
3 of 3 games separated by at least 21 points so far this weekend. Thanks for the 6 classes Dr. Lombardi. Great legacy you left.
4. Think the streak ends tomorrow afternoon.
You have a short memory tho. Two overtime games and another one close (a couple of points??) down to the wire last year (if I’m remembering correctly).
So much for that, 5 of 5.
Guess last year was an anomaly.
The number of classifications is not to blame. There are plenty of other reasons why blowouts are more common in high school football than they used to be.
Agree that there are other factors that explain the increasing number of blowouts in both the regular season and the playoffs. But having six classifications is one very real factor.
Another dominated performance by Southern. A total team effort by players and coaches
I keep allowing myself to be persuaded by the hype of opposing team’s talent. The season SCA met Neumann Goretti, I lacked confidence in a victory. The first year the Tigers played Westinghouse, I didn’t think we could pull it off. And before today’s game, if I was forced to bet big money, (I do not gamble), I would have placed it on Farrell. But once again J. Roth & A. Mills have proven their excellence as coaches in an excellent display of execution and efficiency.
Note to self, do not pick against SC next year in the state final! What more can you say, they run the Wing T to perfection and are a well oiled machine, the only question is can they keep the dynasty going once Jim Roth eventually retires, but who knows when that will be.
Roth is only in his sixties so he will be around for quite a while yet.
…and the Tigers get the job done without media superstars.
The chances of the Tigers maintaining this level of play when Jim Roth leaves is less than the chance of you & I winning the lottery….I don’t play the lottery.
I am not so sure about that he’s built a tremendous program and you really think they won’t still be competing for state titles when he retires. I assume he’ll have a say in who his successor is to carry on the tradition of excellence.
I love the wing t, watched my dad’s alma mater Archbishop Kennedy which sadly is no longer open run it very well for many yrs here in district one. Southern is so fundamentally sound with their ball handling in the backfield, good luck knowing who has the ball. Fun to watch.
Day 2 Picks!
2A: Southern & Farrell had history 30 years ago. Both matchups (Class A, mind you) were won by the Steelers. But Southern wants to change that. They’re back after a “setback” year last year. However, I don’t think the same “third time’s the charm” happens. Steelers may or may not play Renegade to hype them up (& at least the fans won’t boo it, if they did) & just by saying that, I think that D10 is due for another state title at the 2A level (especially now in the 6-class format). It’s been quite a minute. I’ll go with an “upset” & I know I’ll regret it: Farrell over SCA 24-21. I think Farrell has some players & Juelz Johnson might be the biggest difference maker. However, if he’s contained, Southern gets another trophy to add to their case.
5A: This is the bonafide definition of that “you again!?” moment I brought up in the heading. Both teams had a classic last year. This feels different. Stone isn’t at McDevitt anymore. Roman is still loaded. I’m smelling the scent of good old fashioned revenge. Give me Roman in a 28-17 final.
@D2 Fan – the last time I picked against SC in the final were the games against Westinghouse, and we all know how that worked out. With that being said I think Farrell is the better team, and their overall team speed will be a factor in this game like it was in the Clairton-BG game. The key for Farrell will be getting a lead and forcing SC to play catchup like Wyomissing did in the week 0 game. I agree with you that Juelz Johnson is a difference maker, just like Sean Steckert was for SL, but they also have some good receivers and can throw the ball, I’ll take Farrell 35-28 and probably regret it like you!
I think the RC vs. McDevitt game will be a track meet, both have lots of skill players at RB and receiver, I give the edge to RC at QB with Semaj Beals, but the McDevitt QB impressed me last week, I expect the final score to be higher than last years 34-31, I also don’t think McDevitt will be able to keep up on the scoreboard, I’ll take Roman 48-31.
You are right Jeff, the Tigers won big and totally destroyed Farrell. Johnson didn’t make a bit of difference, he got nothing until the very end when SCA let him have a few yards. next time do your homework.
Since that’s now 8 2A titles in the last 9 years why not move up to 3A and challenge the NW Lehigh’s of the state for the next 2 year cycle. SC has a phenomenal program and the best coach in state history but I would have more respect for them if they played up like some other programs do, what more do they have to prove in 2A.
What more does SCA have to do to convince people like you that they have played most of the teams in the state that are in the playoffs every year. This year they beat the reigning state champion 42-0 and the district 4 3A champion and the 3A runnerup. They are also the next to smallest school in D4 2A. Why do the haters continue to harp on the Tigers to move up. What they need to do instead is encourage other schools to get in the weight room and play tougher regular season schedules so they are ready to play the best teams in the playoffs. George Curry always said,”to be the best you have to beat the best,” and to do that you have to put in the work in the off season. All The Tigers heard during the run through the playoffs this year was how they were going to lose to Farrell because of the Steelers superior talent and the players who had big time scholarship offers, but we saw how that worked out.
Not sure anyone cares if you respect southern or not. They’ll just continue to work hard and keep going with their program. As for taking the easy way out every year by staying in AA. Nothing is easy for them it’s called hard work, dedication in the offseason, and staying focused to the little details and fundamentals of their system. Let’s talk about the state titles since the incredible Fleming group. This year lost bad to wyomissing in week 1 and turned around a a 7-5 season where they lost in the district semifinal. There’s nothing easy in turning a down season to state title in one year. Last year 7-5 as stated. Year before. Needed to drive 99 1/2 yds in 6 1/2 mins to beat Westinghouse. Year before lost to loyalsock, mt Carmel, Danville, overcame injuries and pulled away from Westinghouse in the 2nd half to win the state title. There was nothing easy those seasons. Don’t get some lopsided scores think it was easy. Hard work pays off that’s what it is.
@Glenn – obviously you are right but I can assure you there are a lot of other people in this state who feel the same way I do. Whatever happened to the idea of challenging your kids and move up a class instead of taking the easy way out and continuing to dominate 2A every year.
……or release Aliquippa from 4A and let them play at their true enrollment classification…….2A
I’m pretty sure that your “respect” isn’t anyone’s concern in Southern Columbia county.
Nice to see you win gracefully with class. I wasn’t the only one who thought Farrell had a chance to win and admitted at halftime I was wrong and gave SC high praise but I guess you missed that post. There’s a reason Juelz Johnson is going to Nebraska he’s pretty good their o-line got dominated by SC and gave him no chance in the running game but he did make some plays as a receiver.
That result last night flattered Northwestern Lehigh, not that they needed any.
Wonder what Cardinal O’Hara is thinking this morning.
I was secretly was rooting for McKeesport to make longer run just to see how K. Spell would due against these eastern schools. Ran wild over Del Val early in the season. Maybe next year.
Yes, would have been cool to see Kemon Spell and McKeesport make the final against SL, they will be preseason #1 in the WPIAL next year with Spell and 4 star recruit Javion Robinson returning, but then again they were #1 this year. They have to figure out how to beat Aliquippa, or hope someone else beats them in the playoffs, the Quips beat them in the WPIAL final this year and in 2023, and the semi-finals in 2021/22, I and just about everyone else thought this was their year.
Wow, SL man handled TV up front and I’ve read a lot about how good TV’s line was. Steckert is a dude but Sams played a great game at QB as well, WR’s made plays. The game could have been worse than what it actually was too. TV struggled to open up holes for their 2 solid backs but their passing game was almost non existent outside of that long td where SL was running the wrong coverage for 2 minutes left in the half. TV had a solid first couple of drives where they were mixing it uo well but after that SL figured them out and not much ado. SL’s balance was great and with the coverage TV was playing, SL could have ran swing or bubbles all game with success if they wanted but why when Steckert was eating.
I know many are thinking Avonworth won’t lose, not here necessarily but on a couple FB groups. Northwestern was up by 22 over SL in the 4th quarter and won by 8. I can say I feel much more confident in Northwesterns chances Saturday after watching this game. Nothing is a given, but I think NW is more battle tested than some think.
I totally agree, that game tomorrow should be tremendous, I know Avonworth is better than last year, but I think NW Lehigh might be as well, that to me is the most compelling game of the weekend.
i was there last night watching through a northwestern lens too. i haven’t gone back through the stats but the tigers pretty much shut steckert when i thought they might really struggle to stop the run. he’s had ridiculous stats through the playoffs since week 10. it was their passing game in mop up that brought them back. i do think luca neal and avonworth is a notch better…but nwl should go into tomorrow feeling like they can slow down any offense in the state.
this is going to sound corny but the thing that impressed me the most about avonworth was how bad they wanted it last year. it was two teams that really wanted that championship. i’m not sure you get that at any other level of football these days. i also think it could play a factor for avonworth. we have one in our back pocket and they’re the favorites so i think they carry all the pressure headed into tomorrow. nwl will make them pay if they make mistakes because of this.
Avonworth is not viewing this game as if they are the favorites, NW Lehigh is the defending champ and has won 46 out of their last 47 games, so it’s pretty hard to say Avonworth is much of a favorite. I will say Avonworth has been on a mission all year to get back to the final and win, should be a tremendous game, if I were making odds on this game I’d say it’s a pickem, and this is coming from a WPIAL guy who has known the Avonworth coach and his family for almost 50 years.
The RB for So Lehigh is a good player, great vision and has the moves and enough speed to take advantage of what he sees.plus have to appreciate taking on an old school work load with the amount of carries he gets
How is he not getting offers from lower D1 or FBS schools, or D2 schools from the PSAC. Certainly appears to me he is capable of playing at that level, I knew he was good and a workhorse, but he was outstanding last night, very impressed with his vision and agility, along with his toughness.
Would think he should gets looks from Div 2 schools for sure , so many other things come into play for div one need all the measurables for that, but the div 2 state schools play good football.
Agree the PSAC plays very good football I would think he would be a good fit at Kutztown, IUP or Cal or any of those schools.
In my opinion definitely worthy of a PSAC school, give him a couple years of development and I think he would be a contributor. My only guess to why hes not getting much attention is maybe hes a little undersized, running behind a great line but again, more time in weight room, adding speed and strength, he will be a steal for someone at this point.
I watched him will his team to a victory over Shamokin, one of the most gutsy performances Ive seen because he was getting beat up too.
@Irish it was an old school work load, I was worried he was going to get hurt with averaging like 40 carries a game since their district title game. He did a great job taking care of his body in between games I guess.
Yes, overall just a great back, well rounded as you mentioned.
I agree with your statements. SL was able to run the ball with ease.
Avonworth is a good football team and Luca Neal imo is tops in well rounded players in pa! He is hard nosed with a good fb iq.
NWL has been playing with the mentality of “us against everybody”
That coaching staff at NWL will have a game plan.
NWL has some really good players as well. I don’t doubt people are saying avonworth won’t lose they are coming to get what could have been there’s last year.
I was able to see both teams play this year.
Northwestern is the team to beat!
I don’t know of anyone in Western Pa who is saying Avonworth won’t lose. Out of curiosity what game did you see them play this year? I saw them dismantle Hopewell and then handle Imani in the final at Acrisure, this should be a great game, maybe the best of the weekend, two really good teams who would probably win 4A.
I was able to see them play Quipps/TJ!
It is gonna be a very good game!
That’s cool the TJ game was on local TV and I caught the reply after I got home from the game I attended and then saw them the following week in person against Hopewell. After seeing them I said on this site they would go undefeated and play NW Lehigh in the final. I just hope Dimitri Velisaris can play and be effective because if he can’t I don’t see Avonworth winning their offense is a lot more versatile and dynamic with him at RB and Luca Neal at receiver.
Congrats to Clairton on their fifth state title, tying the Quips and TJ for most in WPIAL history. They have a lot returning next year including sophomore stud Brandon Murphy and I expect they will be preseason #1. PCC can add their fifth on Saturday if they manage to upset heavily favored LaSalle.
Clairton is overwhelming BG with their team speed, especially on defense, I think it’s safe to say BG has not faced a team all year with anywhere close to the team speed of Clairton. This game shows how good Laurel was this year, only losing 8-6 in the WPIAL final.
Goodbye wally, goodbye wally, goodbye wally go back to Shendo.
Flyers Cup posted their classes on Instagram. Classes A and AA are public school divisions separated by enrollment, and Class AAA is private schools only. Food for thought…
Independence = freedom and choice.
Amen
I’ve ben finding myself watching the Flyer’s Cup hockey tournament on YouTube more in mid March than March Madness. They do an incredible job with both the tournament and the broadcasting all games.
OK, I get it, bad timing on my part posting about high school basketball on the first day of the football championships, but I don’t make the PIAA board’s schedule meeting agenda. Yesterday the PIAA finally approved a shot clock for basketball to take effect for the 2028-29 season.
Back to football……..
Would love to hear their explanation for why it takes 4 years to go into effect, makes no sense to me.
Some of the things that I heard during this debate is that it will require additional referee recruitment and training, cost issues in obtaining and installing shot clocks (mostly small budget smaller rural school districts), and starting next year too soon (2026-27 season) to implement, and don’t want to start in the middle of a two year cycle (2027-28 season). Please don’t shoot the messenger.
Time to make some picks for the state finals. A lot of “wait, you again!?” matchups. Hopefully this is different next year, because it’s good to see new teams make it every year. Outside of 6A last year, it seemed like the majority were ones looking for their first title. But we do get a bit of nostalgia with some of the matchups.
I’ll separate the picks so it’s not long.
1A: We get a rematch of BG & Clairton. Last time these two met was 2016. BG has won both of the meetings. This year, Clairton seems to be on another level. They’ve looked really good & are the top dog in 1A. I’ll say they continue that & say “third time’s the charm!”. Da Bears win 30-21 over BG.
4A: Finally a matchup that’s different & what a few fans like myself are looking for: New blood, no private schools. Twin Valley is legit. They’ve impressed me this year & they’re looking to go to 5A next season by ending it with a bang. As is Solehi. The only loss for them? A Northwestern Lehigh matchup in Week 10. Would it be crazy that I predict that we’ll see another 28-24 final? I’ll go with Twin Valley over Solehi.
I think both games today will be very competitive and could go either way, appear to be pretty evenly matched teams for both contests. After their heartbreaking loss last year in the WPIAL final to Ft Cherry, and with all the starters they had returning I picked Clairton before the season to win the state title this year. I’m not going to change my mind now, although it would not surprise anyone if BG wins, they have a big advantage in the kicking game and that could prove to be the difference like it was in their 2014 game that ended with a 19-18 BG win, but I’ll take Clairton 26-20.
I agree really nice to see 2 public schools who have never made the state final before in 4A, I think this game is a tossup. I lean toward Twin Valley, but Aliquippa’s defense totally shut them down in the 2nd half last week and held them to 9 total yards of offense as they survived the Quips furious comeback attempt. So. Lehigh had way too many turnovers last week and gave up 24 unanswered points to O’Hara before rallying for a 28-24 victory. I think TV may have an edge on the O-Line and with their rushing attack so I’ll take TV 35-27.
District 11 says goodbye to a great one today. Thank you for everything Wally Hall. Penn State is still vacant…?? Did Patty Kraft make the call?
Must be alot of fun being a high school coach in the coal regions sure are alot of legends in their own minds up in the stands,of course thats true all over.
The Penn St job isnt the great one many of their fans think it is
I’m not sure any college head coaching job is great, other than the money, in this day and age.
When you have one or two mostly one powerful agents who represent most of these coaches playing the different schools off against each other its bad. Then you have all the coaching chaos going on right at playoff time its a mess, but back to high school.
In recruiting news Ft Cherry’s Matt Sieg flipped his commitment from Penn State to WVU, as Rich Rod and the coaching staff promised him the chance to play both ways, he’ll start at safety, but may also see some time on offense, perhaps out of the wildcat formation. Pitt was also one of his final choices, as was Va Tech after they named James Franklin head coach, but ultimately the opportunity to play both ways swayed him to WVU. Also saw Harrisburg 4 star lineman Kevin Brown flipped his commitment to WVU from Penn State, so the poaching of PSU’s recruiting class continues.
Jc, I just saw you got an early Xmas present with Wally Hall stepping down as NS coach. Any idea who is going to take over?
Rick geist
Hall was 115-38 over 13 years with no losing seasons. I think MCA only beat NS twice during that time. Did Geist have a better record in his previous stint as HC?
Over the time you are talking about mt. Carmel went from winning state titles to losing district 1st round games. I wouldn’t base wally halls resume on mt. Carmel wins, mt. Carmel stinks. I would say the talent level at north schuylkill was head and shoulders better than when Geist was there and I would also say the two best teams were Geist teams even though the overall talent wally hall head you cant even compare
