I know 1A teams with 300 linemen. So are you saying a team should move up their classification based on the size of their linemen? You are really reaching… Also, I never heard of any IC kids running a 4.4 40… Which player did that? That would be a Nike combine record which I’m pretty sure they attended just like all the other D12 kids… Stop reaching buddy..
This is IC 9th or 10th year.. They have a kid whose a senior playing at USC (Pac 12) and have two Juniors playing at Temple. So they didn’t just fall out of the air, they been here… Just because YOU never heard of them is all your fault..
@RRMark
You pulled that card a long time ago..
@eric
I agree.. remember the same gents who are crying about IC not moving up or playing in their own league, said last year they will no doubt win it all… but what happen? So their theory of an unfair advantage holds no water.. As matter of fact, 3 out of the 4 champs last year were public schools.. Oh may, can’t be!!
@tsaf
I totally agree.. would it be fair to move those kids up? BTW, Philly has no boundaries so all the kids in Philly can chose the majority of schools they want to go to.. So basically, the whole D12 should move up? Right? Come on guys, let the kids play..
Also, there is a PIAA rule that clearly states a player can only play 6 quarters a week. I believe thats why IC took their kids out in the 2nd, they know they will need all 4 quarters on Saturday.. Catty is a good team..
AND FOR THE RECORD, IC HAS NO STARTERS ON THEIR CURRENT ROSTER WHO TRANSFERRED FROM ANOTHER SCHOOL.. Just give those players and staff credit and stop looking for angles as to why a program can be successful.
@Uptown,
Thanks man, I had no idea about that rule. Makes a lot of sense when you think about it, especially with the spotlight being on concussions and amount of live hits to the head and such.
i doubt imhotep will protest the catty kids playing. my nephew plays for northampton i was at the game today and im worried catty could get rolled. catty was up 30 to.0 at half but let up 2 touchdowns in 4 minutes to make it 30 to 14 on cattys starters. i love my nephew but Northampton was a very poor team this year. hopefully catty can pull the upset but im not sure they have much of a chance especially without their star runningback. but as a fan of district 11 i hope they can beat the odds and do it!
@eric, La Salle could have protested and forced easton to sit players for 2 quarters but showed class and decided to let the kids play the game.
Ignorance to a rule does not make it not a rule.
@JiveTurkey
as eric has shown that he is unaware of, there is a PIAA rule that states a player may only play 6 quarters of football per week. It was designed to prevent kids from playing a full JV and Varsity game in the same week, but still applies to a kid playing in two varsity games in a 7 day period that does not include a make up game.
Catty can play there starters the hole game easton did it when they played lasalle collage a couple of yeats ago and they kept thete starters the hole game on thanksgiving against pburg
@ Jive
I also agree about Philly only being in the PIAA for 7 years. Had they been in longer, there wouldn’t be as many state titles in AA, AAA, and AAAA in other districts. Southern would still have its stranglehold however in class A.
@ Jive
I agree with the singling out of IC, however that is where this ambiguity of them being equal to a PCL school needs to be justified. You can’t preach poverty and brag about being equal to a PCL school. You can’t make statements that the team has been building for this unlike Wood, WC and La Salle etc. who pick those kids when you have transfers starting. Most of all, you can’t call them a public school when they are not held to the standards of public schools because their school still exists. Look at the scores, shouldn’t their charter be gone by now? Are we producing educated student/athletes or are we making a sports factory?
The kids from IC are doing a fantastic job and will likely win a class AA state title. They have kids on that team with bright futures going on to play football or other sports in college. They put that Charter on the map, however the charter is not holding up it’s end of the bargain by giving them the necessities to be successful after High School. The PCL, does similar things when it comes to making sports powers however they also display an acute attention to detail when it comes to academics. I have cousins who have graduated from Prep that are now a meteorologist, pediatrician etc. and attribute a lot from Prep for preparation in college. They also played ball but weren’t as good as a Rich Gannon to play at the next level.
That is why the PCL gets a little more slack on my end than Charter powers. When they actually become “Superman” like the conservative media paints them to be, then I will have a little more respect for the institution however the kids from IC get the respect for their abilities and perseverance into the state playoffs. Good for them and good luck to the teams still playing this week.
@eric,
Since 2008, when Philly joined the PIAA, D12 has outshined both D4 and D11. D12 has 7 title appearances and 3 titles. D4 has 2 appearances and 1 title. (MCA has none of either, just for the record. In fact, they haven’t even sniffed Hershey for over a decade.) I know you’ll say, “well I’m a D11 guy”. Covered that too! D11 has 2 appearances winning both. (Neither of them were catty) Don’t you do any research before you make these silly comments?
@ Uptown football,
What is the rule on eligibility you are speaking of? Not being a wise guy at all, just never heard anything like that.
@ Uptown football
So, this is why D12 needed a bye in the PIAA playoffs? So they could rest their starters after 2 quarters of play in a game that has no baring on them moving on? Just asking.
This Imhotep Team is so impressive took out starters in 1quater score was 22-6 2nd team held there own against king varsity for 2,3,4 with final score 32-30 king won but for them to keep there varsity in the whole game and struggle with imhotep 2nd string is just a insight of the up coming talent coming up in the years
Wow, eric you did see right, King won on a last play hail mary.
Did I see that Catty, unlike Imhotep, played their starters into the 4th quarter? I saw Imhotep’s varsity, who were up 22-6 at the half, come out wearing warmups for the whole second half.
I wonder if Catty’s coaches realize their starters are now only eligible to play 2 quarters on Saturday? Or are they un-knowledgeable about the rules for eligibility?
What school do you root for doug
Im from catty and daeg93 is right how many state titles does philly have mount carmel is the winningest team in the statebof pa
Oh wow did i see that right imhotep lost today
Tsaf,
Im not sure what the answer is but just putting the non-boundry schools in the 4A bracket is not that easy a fix. For every Imhotep, Wood, St Joe Prep etc etc you have a Calvary Christian, Delco Christain, ND Green Pond, Future, Nativity BVM, MArian Catholic etc etc. making those schools have to play 4A schools in the playoffs is just crazy. I watched Pitt North Catholic last week win the D7 1A title. If they played PCC,NA or Gateway?…complete mismatch!….Also I think if you would do that the PIAA would have to alter the points system. For instance a team like Delco Christian I don’t think would be able to accumulate enough points to make the 4a playoff because of the much small schools they play. Again not sure what the answer is nut I don’t think its this.
Buddy
Just like 2 years ago when McD spanked Wood 52-0. Oh wait, silly me, Wood spanked McD 52-0. McD not spanking anyone including Wood.
IF McD gets there, which is unlikely, Wood by 10. If Erie Prep gets there, they will probably beat Wood. Wood very young. Next year, look out!
@d6football
Just scroll down to the early October comments I made with some other people on here. You will understand the Charter gimmick and how poorly the majority of them actually are. Some even break state law with how they accept public money yet promote private/religious concepts. Completely illegal.
@dawg93,
You didn’t say they looked like an all-star team. You called them the hand picked AA all-star team. You were taking a shot at them. Don’t back pedal, if you’re gonna make a statement at least own it.
You are aware D12 has only been in the PIAA for a few years. We don’t have any A teams to speak of, maybe one in the whole city. Since D12 joined PIAA the AA and AAA teams you mentioned haven’t made it far enough to play a D12 team. You got me thinking though. Some of the folks that say Imhotep should move up because of the size of their roster. How many kids does SCA have on their roster, 60-70? I thought the Hynoski’s were from Carmel, how did Henry end up at SCA? Hmm, that’s weird. Remember when Berwick got the big lineman from Gratz a few years back? How did that kid get a 5th year of eligibility? Hmm, weird. What’s that saying about glass houses and stones?
Parkland by 6 over SJP
Imhotep by 28 over Catty (though I hope I’m wrong)
What I want is: NP/Prep
What will happen is: NP/Parkland
If Wood meets McDevitt, Wood will get handily spanked.
Let’s get the facts straight… I NEVER said IC will mercy rule Catty.. Catty is a great team and I believe IC will be challenged..
Well Jiveturkey show me on here where I’ve been bashing Imhotep or any other school. All I’ve been sayin is they look like an all star team to me now if that’s good or bad idk u can take that anyway u want to I guess.. But now that we got some goin now let’s look at some things here now u an littleguyscoach say that this school has been around for just a few years now fell out of the sky from nowhere with a 70 man roster a 300 pound O line an D line an everybody Else on the team runs a 4.4 40yard time now that’s just a little AA public school huh now does that sound normal??
Something Else for ya Jiveturkey just for the hell of it us big slow boys been beatin up on city teams since 1988 check your history I’ll save ya the time berwick Southern Columbia Mount caramel 3 coal teams that live in bout a 20 radius with 17 state titles not to bad for a bunch of country boys huh..
Thanks for the info coach.
There is a stream of the mcdevitt vs manheim game friday night on penn live if anyone will be at home wanting to see a fantastic game.
To All
The PIAA just announced the enrollment figures for the next two year cycle.
In D2, Riverside moves up to AA, Wyoming Area moves up to AAA, and Western Wayne drops to AA.
