In the Class A bracket, Clarion D9, looks potent for the west. Season’s scores – 74-0; 42-7; 62-19; 62-0; 62-0; 46-0; 50-0; 55-0; 55-0; 56-13; 49-0; 56-12; and 55-0 (Thanks, Dave and westernPA football). Most points scored in state average 55.69; best defense in state average 3.46 – all classes. For the past five years it was Clairton coming from the west with such numbers; and they won four times out of five!

  2. If imhotep is going to win the championship with ease why play the games and just hand them the title oh i forgot because they were all that last year till wyomissing got a hold of them

  3. @ phillyboy:

Yes, it’s right in Bethlehem. Parking is tough.
I went several times , but didn’t see a parking lot. I’m sure they have one, but I suspect it is small. I parked on the streets about 2 or 3 blocks away. No fee.

The field is fantastic. And PLENTY of seating.
Must realize, this field is shared by 3 high schools. Liberty, Bechai & Freedom.

  4. @d6football, you also have catholic private schools such as La Salle and St. Joe Prep. Although students at West Catholic, Lansdale Catholic (catholic schools) pay tuition; La Salle and SJP students pay a great deal more.

  5. @d6football, Catholic / private schools charge tuition so students pay to attend. Charter schools are publicly funded although they fall outside the local school district budget. So, they are free just as a public school is.

So, catholic/private, students pay; public/charters, students don’t pay.

  6. @RedDawgs,
Ryan is a good team. I agree they are hands down the best team that didn’t make the playoffs. Considering they were the only team in their league not to make the playoffs. QB got hurt late in the LaSalle game, wouldn’t have changed the outcome. Didn’t play against Roman. Would they have beaten Roman had he played? Maybe, but their defense gave up 28 points. With or without the QB, they did not score 28 points in a league game all season. Roman had a pretty good defense so I doubt that would have been the game they did it. QB played against Judge, again defense gave up 28, and again Ryan lost. Ryan did beat Prep, regardless of how little motivation Prep back-ups had to play that day. However, Ryan still did not score 28 points. They beat a couple AAA teams and some weak D1 teams. None of the D1 teams they beat made the playoffs in their league. Does that make them a VERY good team? I saw them play 3 times and I don’t think so, but everybody is entitled to their opinion.

  7. Philly, Banko Field / BASD; the field is in town, no charge for parking and once the school lots fill up, there is plenty of street parking. No problem with this site at all.

  8. @littleguyscoach

“catty fans and team will have a long ride home after getting beat by 50!”

No more shame than losing to Pittsburgh Central Catholic by 50 or whatever. In fact, more pride and respect. Rough Riders never lose because they never accept a hand up. It’s about playing with dignity.

  9. @tsaf,
I stand by my opinion that the charter school system in Philadelphia is a complete joke. By no means am I saying these kids are getting the same educational opportunities as they would get in Catholic schools. The point I was trying to make is that at least these kids are trying to make something of themselves. I don’t think dawg’s bias is towards D12. I think it’s much deeper than location. You can look at a team picture from Wood and a team picture from Imhotep and know why most of these haters have the opinion they do about Imhotep. Wood is much worse than Imhotep in the way they go after players, why is Imhotep the only one that catches heat? We both know, and it’s not right. Pretty freakin far from being right, and I think that’s pretty sad.

  10. Was kicking around the idea of driving up to Banko field for the Prep/Parkland game this Saturday. Anybody know if there is parking, and if so do they charge for it. Also, the field itself is in the heart of town, right? Thanks.

  11. Jive
Ryan is a VERY good team, and probably the best team not to make the playoffs. The only reason they did not make the playoffs is because their was hurt and they lost 2 games that screwed them. Ryan would have beaten LS or Prep in playoffs, so Wood losing to them is not horrible.

I agree Wood is not at the same level as last year or 2011, but they are still a Top 10 team in the state right now. The scary thing is that Wood will return 90% of its starters next year-only lose a few to graduation. Next year they will be 5x better than this year.

They will beat Berwick by 40, and I think lose in a close one vs Erie Prep or West Allegheny..

  12. Funny, say anything less than complimentary about a D12 public or charter school and certain people start throwing around the code words for you know what (R word)… “inner city kids” and “your stereotype”. And calling kids “mountain boys”. Always gotta pull that card. That ugly, baitin’, Al Sharptongue card. Now that’s cowardly.

  13. @Facts & littleguyscoach,
I am on your side with this Imhotep thing. However, players did come from other schools, so what, no rules were broken. This is one of the things I brought up last week with fwgritty. Why add fuel to their fire? We all know where the hate in the haters lies. No reason to give them a reason to disparage your comment. I could list some kids that came over after coach Crosby, and so can the haters. Littleguyscoach, did West Catholic close? One of the best players in the state followed Crosby. Even people in Pittsburgh know about that. This team can stand on it’s own and then some, why make things up?

  14. I think everybody that commented on the rule brought a valid point. I agree 100% with tsaf77 on refs not calling everything. I think the refs often look the other way to avoid 5 hour games. I am a strong supporter of, if you call it once it won’t happen again. However, I think some of the refs would rather look the other way than making the effort of reaching for their flag.

  15. Just out of curosity, since i am i the middle of the state, what is the difference between a charter school and a private/catholic school? This isnt meaning to stir up debate, which has already started, i just dont have any charter schools in my area so i am unsure of what the difference is.

  16. @ Jive

Is this the same Jive that completely and statistically ripped apart the whole Charter system, debunking the notion that it is a success education option. Don’t go back on your knowledgeable words, we will think you are a politician. As I have said before, I understand the D12 bias and I don’t blame you for that, but keep some consistency. IC is a really good team that can stay with anyone from the PCL. Now they are a better educational institution?
I understand you want to defend them, but all Dawg was doing was pointing out that they are a stellar team with some questionable attributes. I believe Dawg did not even pick his team to move on after this week against a team that we all know recruits or as my relatives tell me their parents choose to send them to the PCL. All fine and good, no boundaries playing schools with boundaries is unfair. Just move the no boundary schools to AAAA, would solve many issues and scrutinization.
As I stated before, IC will roll to an AA crown, but how are the PCL faithful going to react when guys like Facts etc. are saying that IC could have easily ran the table in the PCL. If the IC people do make that statement, they may have a right to. I agree though with Facts, IC will Mercy rule Catty this week.

  17. @Boxer13

You may be right-on with your winner choices, but in 3A your Barons’ are in the west. McDevitt has beaten both of the 4A teams still in the hunt from D3, Cumberland Valley and Lower Dauphin; pretty impressive. Going to be a big challenge for the Barons’.

  18. @Jive & Phillips Jive is correct on the rule, but sometimes you have to wounder about these officals. Some one correct me if i am wrong,i believe the rule says the coach is not allowed on the field between plays.Coach Roth from SCA was almost at the hash mark most of the game, and not even a side line waring.

  19. @ Dawgs 1st off tell me one kid that was recruited to Imhotep just one!!! Coach Crosby got there and not one kid transfered from another school unless the school closed down so get your facts straight , catty fans and team will have a long ride home after getting beat by 50!

  20. @Phillips

There are unfortunately many rules avoided. I have seen coaches walking out to the numbers on the field to call plays. Completely illegal. Hopefully as teams move on there will be more attention to detail. I will say that it is hard to follow every rule in the book.

  21. Here we go again.. Do I have to put up the last 4 years on Imhotep’s rosters to show you all these kids been on the roster as freshmen getting their butts kick. Now they blossomed to be good players, and people like Dawg93 believes they hand picked.

  22. MANHEIM CENTRAL OVER MCDEVITT ,,, Parkland over S.J Prep ,, North Penn over Nasheminy , but some really close games .. And I dont care about any west teams.. lets see what happens .. good luck to all .. GO BARONS.

  23. Just for the hell of it, here’s my opinion on why people, like the dawg93, try to bash Imhotep at every turn. Does the fact that these are inner-city kids at a public school bother you, dawg93? Does it bother you that these inner-city kids would run circles around your mountain boys? Does it bother you that these inner-city kids are breaking the mold of your stereotype and going to school, hope to go to college? Even though it’s a charter school, it’s still funded by public tax dollars, which makes it a public school. Hey dawg93, guess what? You pay PA state tax, right? So in theory you are paying for these kids to get an education. For that, we thank you.

Let’s look at your all-star comment. Public school, school choice, no tuition, no extra incentives. You seem to be a person that respects Wood. Catholic school, school choice, tuition, much better facilities. Tuition pays for them nice facilities. How many of the kids on that all-star team go to school for free? Oh, them inner-city kids don’t count, because they go to school in the suburbs I guess. Wood is not as good this year as most people, who haven’t seen them play, think they are. Remember they lost to the only AAAA CL team that didn’t make the playoffs. They’re good, just not pushing the top of the D12 food chain. Still think, if they both make it to next week, they beat your dawgs by 40. Good luck!
