  1. Just for the hell of it here’s my picks for all the gold
AAAA Pittsburgh CC AAA Erie prep
I think those 2 teams can beat some small colleges.
AA all star team Imhotep I think catty can give em a run but in the end I think that hand picked all star team just to big an fast.
A class old forge i watched them totally dominate a good an very big dunmore team 2 weeks ago and in the second-half last week dominate a very good southern Columbia team so if they stay focused and their foot on the gas they will bring home some gold for District 2.. GO BLUE DEVILS

  2. AJ an Reddawg I agree with ya 100percent the dawgs didn’t look to impressive last fir night they did what they had to do to win the game an nothin fancy but the truth is I wasn’t to impressed with the last 3 games we played. I’ve been to every ber game this year the first 10 games looked unstoppable 5 wide throwing ball all over the place 1900 yards passin first 10 games averaging 400 yards total offense then we hit the playoffs and did a complete turnaround went to power run game idk seems to me old George is holdin back some things doing just enought the last few weeks to win holdin back an savein some things for just the right time old George is a Chessplayer ya know.. I think ber will be ready to go if we meet up with wood I hope so anyway..but I’ll tell u one thing win or lose old woods gonna know they were in a football game cuz the dawgs don’t quit we will bring some cool region football down to pilly..

  3. @Phillips,
Immediately was from an old rule book. Substituted player has 3 seconds to engage towards the sideline, if he doesn’t it is 5 yds. If the ball is snapped before he is off the field, into the coaches box, it’s 15 yds.

  4. @Phillips,
At no point are 12 men permitted to be in the huddle. If a substitute comes into the game, the player he is replacing must leave the field immediately. If he does not, that is a 5 yard penalty for 12 men in the huddle. If the 12th man participates in the play, it is a 15 yard penalty for illegal participation. NFHS Rule Book, Rule 4-1, Section 7, Articles 1-6.

Most teams will not substitute in the no huddle offense because if they do, they must allow the defense to also substitute. That eliminates the wear down the defense effect most no huddle offenses are built for.

  5. Can anyone tell me how it is determined who is on the league’s “all team” for first, second third and Honorable mention?

  6. @ tsaf77 @jimturkey : The 12th player ran right by the Head linesman who happen to be the head referee. This just wasn’t one time it was four to five times.

  7. @Phillips

The penalty is “illegal substitution” that you can not “break” the huddle with over 11 men in the huddle. Technically, if the huddle did not “break” and the kid ran off to the sidelines (they have 3 seconds to leave), it is legal. If they did indeed “break” the huddle and then the kid ran off, it is a penalty. If they broke the huddle with the intent to deceive the opponent, it is “illegal participation” 15 yard penalty.

There are teams that run a “no huddle” in which you see many kids running on and off the field with sometimes 14 players before the QB is set under center or in gun/piston. It takes a lot of practice and organization to avoid penalties and cause defenses havoc. Sometimes it is hard for the refs to follow. That is why the “loophole” punt formation rule was changed from “every down” to “4th down” which essentially eliminated the A-11 offense.

  8. Sorry about the last post, I had nice columns with the numbers under the “east” and “west”, but it did not come through that way.

  9. General
The district shifting recently mentioned was a concern of mine originally also. But, it has really balanced the team numbers.
    Before shifts teams per class:
    East West
    AAAA 111 34
    AAA 102 45
    AA 68 76 no shifting,fairly balanced
    A 44 99

    After all the district shifting:
    East West
    AAAA 81 64
    AAA 72 76
AA 68 76 (no districts shifting)
    A 67 75

This provides a far greater balance in teams in the classes.

  10. @Phillips,
Absolutely a penalty. That 12th player can run off the field, causing a DB to think he is splitting out as a WR. Snap the ball while DB is over by the sideline and play 11 on 10. If this did in fact happen in a playoff game, shame on the coach that didn’t bring it to the officials attention. Refs should have picked up on this too. Can’t believe a player would run off the field, in front of a line judge, and no flag was thrown. Stranger things have happened but that crew should never get another game if that is the case.

  11. @ phillyboy

Your right I almost forgot about Imhotep, I hear they are on a mission this year. Also agree Pitt.CC appears to be team to beat 4A. That Manheim/McDevitt game should be a great game. Manheim has been blowing teams out all season should be interesting to see if they can match McDevitt’s speed.

    @d6football

I agree I don’t like district 3 being in the west. I haven’t seen old forge, but beating Southern Columbia is impressive and with Clairton out this year it could be their year.

  12. @ Dave Mika

Penn live will be broadcasting the McDevitt vs Manheim Central game online. Just a heads up to add it tot he streams if you have not yet. Friday at 6:30 the broadcast will begin.

  13. @ AJ

Techinically AAA is a cluster, since you have “east” teams in the west bracket.

McDevitt vs Prep is the game i am def going to see if they both win this week. Prep has been blowing everyone out even with the loss of the two MSU recruits.

As far as the two smaller classifications I have
Imhotep in AA and THe Old Forge/Steel High winner as the state champs.

    @ ROn
I will see you there. I have Berwick as a 10 point favorite right now.

  14. @ AJ

Imhotep in AA I think is a favorite to win it all. I don’t know about Single A. In AAAA Pittsburgh Central Catholic is on cruise control. And Erie CP ostensibly is about as good as last year. Maybe, just maybe Manheim Central can step up. Hope so.

  15. @ d6football

Interesting predictions. I do agree the west seems to have the stronger teams this year. Is there an East team in any class we can say is a favorite to win it all?

  16. @ Dawgs93

My bad I confused my days. I’m thinking Saturday because Parkland/Prep is Sat. I didn’t see Parkland/Easton Live, I saw that game on tv recorded after getting home from Berwick/Beca. On a side note , I think Beca should be good next year a lot of returning people they just need to play and quit all the chatter.

  17. @ Dawgs93

Not sure what your talking about when you say seeing both games on the same night. Parkland/Easton was Friday and Berwick/Beca was on Saturday. Also, Parkland/Beca was in Oct. so you lost me there. However, I hope Berwick was holding back and maybe they had an off nite, because they are going to have to bring it if they think they have a prayer against a possible matchup with Wood next round.

    @ RedDawgs77
I agree with your comments your spot on. Thanks.

  18. @ Buddy

Your right Prep/Parkland and NP/Neshaminy both should be close games. I give a slight edge to NP they are hot right now and playing very well. Prep should win but I wouldn’t be surprised if Parkland pulled the upset.

  19. why is southern columbia always ranked higher than the district 2 teams? district 2 has eliminated them 3 out of the last 4 years. riverside, dunmore and old forge have all ended southerns seasons. lets rank southern below dunmore, after all dunmore has beaten old forge, there only loss this year.deal with it.

  20. @ d6football Selinsgrove defeated Jersey Shore 14-6 at Jersey Shore a month ago. Berwick defeated Selinsgrove 36-0 in mid season. Berwick was up 22-0 in first 5 minutes and coasted. If Clearfield can not run against Berwick, it will be a one sided game. Berwick fans are really hyped up for chance of playing Arch Wood in eastern final, expect around 3,000 Berwick fans at Mill Hall

  21. @jimturkey: so during a huddle only 11 guys are allowed to be in the huddle? Not 12 then after the huddle one runs off. Why I ask it happened many times during a playoff game and nothing was called.

  22. Predictions:
    AAA
    Wood over Academy
    Berwick over Clearfield
    McDevitt over Manheim
    Prep over WA

    Wood over Berwick
    Prep over McDevitt

    Prep Over Wood

    AAAA
    PCC over McDowell
    CV over LD
    Parkland over SJP
    NP over Neshaminy

    PCC over CV
    Parkland over NP

    PCC over Parkland

  23. I dont think it will be a blowout on Berwick’s side, but sizing up the teams each has played, CLearfield has not played near the level of competition that Berwick has. They are a perennial playoff team, just dont match up come state playoff time. Plus with Selinsgrove being down this year, that part of the bracket was rather easy imo.
