I saw Prep this year at Wood. Down at the half, they really turned it around in the second half. They have good size and speed, efficient lines on both sides of the ball, and obviously fine coaching. That said, I feel the loss of their fine QB Chris Martin has got to hurt. Fine coaching would never let it be said a factor, and they will compensate, but I believe you are absolutely correct with the “hands full” with Parkland. This should be a good, I think tight one.

  2. What’s the love fest with the Prep? How are they ranked 3rd?
I don’t care who they beat, or the games they are lost are because they didn’t have to win them or they played their JV team yesterday!!! A loss is a Loss!!
They have their hands full on Saturday against Parkland. QB or no QB!

The Catasqua/Imhotep game is played at the NW Supersite, formerly known as Germantown HS field. The address is Sedgwick and Woolston Ave., Phila. PA 19150

The 4A class for states sure is taking on a familiar look this year. Fully 7 or the 10 teams remaining have been to the big dance and 5 of those have earned titles! Three-A is almost the same with 6 of the remaining teams a possible repeat champion if they get there. It drops off in 2A, with only 3 teams remaining that have been before, with only one winning previously; and in 1A only two teams remain that could repeat, both in the east, and both have titled.

  5. Hats off to Old Forge. They played awesome last night. I guess I got caught up in the hype. I hope you guys go all the way to Hershey. Again coach blamed his players for the loss. I don’t get that? Anyway GO D2.

  6. The Old Forge/SCA game was a great game. Both teams brought back that old “coal cracker” style of play. It was anyones’ game to win. Shame to see one of them lose but that is the game. Two very tough and classy programs. Good luck to Old Forge against S. Haven.
Also saw the Berwick/Beca score. Another great game last night. Too bad you can’t see them all.

How ’bout those Blue Devils indeed! That was a shocker. I’m a D2 guy, not an Old Forge fan, but I went to see the game with a couple buddies just for the heck of it – glad we went. Good football game to watch, met a couple of nice Mt. Carmel fans there, good time.

To be honest, I didn’t think Old Forge could pull it out heading in. Heard a lot about Southern Columbia all year – saw the gaudy numbers they were putting up every week, and figured that Old Forge would just be running into a buzzsaw, especially being down in D4 too, nearly 2 hours away. And after Southern got up by two scores pretty quick, I thought it was over.

But for the rest of the game, that Old Forge defense didn’t allow a single point.

It was a great football game, and Southern has nothing to be ashamed of – they’re a great football team, and they had a great season. It was just two great teams going at it, and as a fan of football, I was thankful to be in attendance for a classic.

  8. The SCA/Old Forge mercy rule comment was by “Jim”, not me, “Jim B”. lol Just making sure.

    Eric,
Nope, I’m not a LL fan. I actually am a Coughlin fan. But, I follow the Wyoming Valley Conference, and D2 in general. I’ll be at the Catty/LL game tonight also. This is the first, and maybe only, chance to see Lehman this year. I’m really interested in seeing Lehman’s 250 pound RB. And also, Parrys Marshall. I remember his dad at UCONN.

PS. Don’t go to WVW High School. The field is about 4 miles up RT 11 in Kingston. The High School is in Plymouth.

  9. Ok, ok… I agree I/we have wrung everything out of this debate. I really don’t intend to rain on the IC kid’s parade. But I see that it is pretty much unavoidable with a topic like this. I only doubled down on it because people were questioning my motives. Yes, in all probability, the IC kids will be getting a Hershey Kiss shower in a few weeks. And they deserve it.

Eric, you left kinda early. Are you walking up? Lol, jk. I will be there too. I hope the rain clears out.

  10. @Jim would be suprised if OldForge was mercy ruled at half time .I can tell you one thing Southern has not seen a team as physcial as Old Forge, better strap it up becuse their going to get hit for 48 min!Lookin for a great game friday night.

Charters in Philly can send their students to play at public schools. It is PA Law.
The PCL is in a league of it’s own. I have mentioned them before on recruiting of superior athletes. Look at West Catholic from seasons ago however Charters are another scenario all together with football and other sports. You have to pay to attend the PCL and actually maintain good grades to stay there. I am not saying the students at IC are not diligent student athletes however the PA assessments speak otherwise. It is just easier at a charter because #1 there is no tuition, #2 they create their own curriculum and #3 are not held accountable for failing.

With that being said, I believe this IC team will smell chocolate this year. I don’t believe there is a team in class AA that can play with them. I was able to watch their games on the web and they are extremely talented and could be considered one of the best teams in PA. I really do believe they can play with any team in AAAA in this state. Just don’t agree with their classification along with the rest of the schools that can draw from that large of a population.

  12. @ Colin

Good point. The PIAA won’t split the public and private schools because they want a true state championship. Without a doubt, it’s the best way. Ohio and Florida and many other states also do it the right way. In my opinion, NJ is a joke. By splitting the public/private playoffs I think they exacerbated any problems they might have had. Now, those top NJ private schools are like Division III colleges. It’s a joke.

  13. Look, Tep hasn’t won squat yet, okay? There’s a chance they could get upset this year. Can they at least get one state title before being pressured to move up? Thanks.

  14. @ Jim

Stirring the pot a bit? I know a lot of people who are down on Old Forge, myself included for most of the year. But if they play the same way that they did against Dunmore this past week – nobody in the state will beat them.

If they can actually duplicate that effort, well, that’s another thing. It’s high school football. They’re all 15, 16, 17 year old kids – you get something different every week. So who knows what’ll actually happen.

If you read the Born Power Index (has an 82% accuracy in predictions), they have Southern Columbia and Old Forge dead even.

I don’t know though. Southern is a very good team, as always, and this year I’d say they’re even better. And I’m sure they have a chip on their shoulder too, and want to finish the job this year. But I’m sure Old Forge does too.

As a neutral observer, and someone who’s attending the game, I hope it isn’t a blowout either way. I hope is a great, competitive game to watch. And as always, good luck and good health to both teams.

  15. @ everyone………Everybody makes good points about the classification issue. But I think we are all beating a dead horse because the PIAA isn’t changing anything. This issue is minor in football compared to basketball. The PIAA is not going to institute a non-public division. Former PIAA head honcho BRad Cashman already said that.I remember when the Philly schools first entered and Cashman said PA finally can have a true state tournament. Right or wrong in the end this is what we have and I don’t believe the PIAA is going to make any drastic changes.
