  2. @ rrmark i believe imhotep does im a catasauqua fan and the news up here said that if catasauqua gets that far they would play across from citenzens bank park

  3. @RRMark, it usually rotates each year so they will probably host the quarterfinal round (I’m hoping your Catty team is the opponent) this year and travel for the semifinal round should they prevail

  4. @ perk valley ’75:
Good info. Thanks. Did not know that. My daughter teaches there and I doubt she knows all that:)
Perk Valley got to stop one guy ( Todd ) on CB West. If they can do that, they have a chance.
Their QB likes to pass a lot also, don’t really know how good he is at it though. He wasn’t against North Penn.

    Buddy
    North Penn ’65

  5. @ Buddy
Perk Valley opened it’s doors in 1969 when Schwenksville and Collegeville-Trappe merged. PV played it’s first two seasons in the Inter-County Conference (Where Schwenksville and C-T had played) and then joined the Bux-Mont League for 15 years. In 1986 PV joined the Pioneer Athletic Conference.

  6. Your right, Too many “steve”s on this thread.

My username is Steve, posting about PCL mostly, haven’t posted for over a month, going on sabbatical. Wish you all well..

Rec: any additional “Steve”s. add an initial or a number to your name. Don’t want to be associated with some of the recent “S” comments.

  7. You’re so right, Buddy. That CB West/Erie Cathedral Prep game was unreal. Their all state full back goes down early in the first quarter, eventually down to their fourth string RB and trying to gut it out. There was so much on the line: a 44 game win streak, a chance to 3 peat, and was Pettine’s last game as coach. Meanwhile, Erie CP was no slouch by any stretch of the imagination. They had a high powered offense. In fact, the game was a matchup of two top 10 USA Today teams. So there they are late in the fourth quarter trailing 13-7, making a furious effort to get the go-ahead TD with Warden at RB. They get down to about Erie’s 20 yard line or so and get stopped with something like 4 minutes left in the game. CB West’s defense forces a 3 and out. Then comes the CB West TD by a blocked punt. The fear of losing in those closing minutes and the realization of everything that was on the line was understood by all. Somehow, some way they had to find a way to win. Yeah, I would say that was the most memorable PIAA final ever.

  8. @Steve and @bill; if you’re going to use duplicate names on here, don’t copy the first post and post it under the second name with one minor change. What genius.

  9. That last post should have said Berwick wasn’t totally ready for their change of offense…need to proofread before I submit.

  10. That last post should have said Berwick wasn’t totally ready for their change of offense…need to proofread before I submit…lol

  11. Berwick may have been the favorite against Crestwood but it is tough to beat a team twice in one season. Crestwood had a totally different offensive scheme and Berwick was totally ready for it. However as it always is with Curry lead teams he adjust at halftime and they come back and win. Just something about Berwick magic. Always a turnover or a penalty that swings the game. There were so many games in the 90’s this way when they dominated. Down 17-0 to Manheim at half. Final score Berwick 18-17. I believe they were looking ahead to Abington. They already knew they won and wanted that rematch. If you watched highlights after the game there responses were more about we escaped this game but now it’s time for the “Rematch”. Of course we would like the team we are cheering for to win every game 50-0 but in the end sometimes it’s much more entertaining to watch or listen to a close game. Win or lose. Hopefully this week will be another great game. I’ll obviously be cheering for Berwick but in the end as long as it’s a good game I’ll be happy……Well depressed for two days after first…lol

  12. @Colin,
West has a couple of really nice players, but Imhotep has a whole bunch of them. My guess is Imhotep by 3 TD’s or more.
Frankford is on a nice winning streak, but they were all public league games. Frankford got trounced by Wood, and SJP beat Wood by 10. After halftime adjustments SJP made Wood look kinda silly. SJP QB is out this week, but I still see this game being pretty lopsided.
Wood vs King could be a little interesting. I’m thinking, like I’m sure most people are, Wood should take this one fairly easily. However, I wouldn’t be shocked if King made a run at them. If King stacks the box and makes Wood throw the ball, gets a couple big plays out of Delane Hart, it could make for an exciting game. I don’t think the odds are great that will happen, but I’m hoping for at least one good game.

  13. @D12 guys,

Anyone care to give their take on the 3 D12 games this weekend? On paper the Imhotep/West game looks to be the most competitive. Does FKD or MLK have a chance to upset Prep or Wood respectively?

  14. @ Jive

Yeah, that West Catholic/Wilimington game was memorable. I watched that game on the internet back when it was still free to live stream. (So cheesy that they charge now but that’s another topic of conversation) Give major props to Wilmington. Granted, part of it was good luck. For example, WC could have gotten another TD right before halftime but they were stuffed near the 1 yard line or so. Anyway, that kid on Wilmington, think his name was Wagner, was prime time. Dude got the winning score in dramatic fashion and then came back and stuffed Drake at the 1. Are you kidding me? That’s right up there with Andrew Elsing at CB West vs. Erie CP and when a kid by the name of, I think Wilt blocked the extra point for MC against Pine-Richland in ’03.

  15. Jive,

You stole my thunder!…..That was a pretty big upset. Kudos to Wilmington. It looked like several times during the game that West was gonna blow them out but they battled. Ill always remember that wilmington QB running around like crazy during that first OT TD…..9 times outta 10 West wins and probably wins big….But that’s why they call them upsets!

  16. 1999 AAAA final. CB West vs Erie Cathedral Prep.
CB West fullback ( Piciotti) was knocked out after 6 minutes, ranked the top FB in the country. Their 2nd & 3rd string RB’s knocked out also before games end, leaving 4th string RB (Warden). Won on a blocked punt for TD at end of game. Final was 14 to 13.

Doesn’t get much better than that one.

  17. I think I’ll stay in the AA bracket with rrmark for my upset game. 2008 West Catholic had 5 players that went D1. Three guys over 1300 yds rushing, and another 1300 passing, setting all kinds of city records. Going into the AA final their only loss was to AAAA CL champion LaSalle 27-26. They beat the AAA state runner-up (Wood) by 9, and won 11 games by more than 25 points. They lost to Wilmington Area 35-34 in double OT. West’s closet game in the tournament was a 37-14 win in the Eastern final. Wilmington played 3 OT games in the tournament and won their other game by 2. Everybody, at least in Philly, thought this would be a blowout for West. West coach decided to go for 2, rather than go into a 3rd OT. Curtis Drake (Penn State) takes the snap, rolls left, cuts up field, and gets stuffed at the 1. It was a great game and shocked most of us that thought West was gonna cruise through.

  18. @Kmac

That was definitely one of the best games I ever saw. Was wondering if you or anyone has these games on DVD or tape. Or if there is somewhere to buy them. Have some of the Berwick games but a couple I didn’t bother taping or I was an idiot and taped over them…Ugh VHS. If anyone knows of a way to get these let me know.
