You raise a good question about D1 4A. And you are again right on the great versus good team comment; you’d have to say North Penn’s 2003 State Champion was the last “truly great D1 team”. I sort of class the teams in terms of state championships as certainly special, and also to get to a state championship and bring home silver as also special, at least officially the 2nd best 4A team in the state. In that regard, in 2004 Neshaminy unfortunately ran into the best HS Football team I ever saw personally in Pittsburgh Central Catholic. And too, North Penn and Coatesville were silver the last two seasons in 4A. But, again, you are right about a D1 team not having that extra to bring home gold for 10 years now. The only buzz I have heard this season so far is that Neshaminy was very young last season and may be quite strong in 2013.

  3. @ Newman

    Wow……….. you sure about that?

Killer schedule. I don’t know about the “can’t miss” part.

NP is going to get run over, especially from SJP.

Got to give them ( NP) credit. They aren’t avoiding anyone, even though maybe they should this year.

  4. Anybody know who might step up this year in District 1 AAAA? I’m hoping they can get out of their funk. There are always several good teams but there hasn’t been a truly great team in 10 years.

  5. It is tough to say who will come out of District 3 this year in AA. Lancaster Catholic having moved to AAA last season and WYO losing many key players. AAA in District 3 could also be very interesting will someone knock off Bishop McDevitt?

  6. Buddy, North Penn plays Archbishop Wood on September 6, and St. Joseph’s Prep on September 13. Both of these are “can’t-miss” games.

  7. Don’t sleep on Pennridge in D1 this year. Lots of young talent plus a stud RB, once again under the coaching of Jeff Hollenbach. Could run the table in their confrence

  8. Thank you Joeyblack12 if the pub got organized like the Catholic schools do ghey wouldn’t be so bad there is plenty of talent ib the pub just not organized enough or disciple enough. You didn’t really hear of imhotep till there new coach came and turned things around. So imagine if the whole pub team got organized its a scary thought.

  9. Imhotep was mainly made up of kids from their previous roster the program just got a great player and a coach that took the program in the right direction only a few starters weren’t on their 2011 roster

  10. Just wondering but so is the quips a terrible team cause they put same scores on teams till they was defeated against WYO same as imhotep blowing out everyone in there path until they lose to WYO.

  11. So sick and tired of hearing about how good or bad Imhotep is. “We beat West!” They should have beaten west, they brought in their coach, best player, and a few other starters from West. “We beat Pen Argyl!” Yeah, cause Pen Argyl was not very good. WYO 35-15, however, it should have been posted something like L 35-15. Why? cause Wyomissing was a very good team. We will know on September 7th if Imhotep is any good, when they play LaSalle. They are playing Mooney from Ohio the week before, but Mooney is the Lincoln of Ohio football, no a test at all.

  12. Buddy

Sorry, I have no schedule help for the Knights. The realignment you mention is for 2014 and the Division will be NP, Neshaminy, Pennsbury, Souderton, Pennridge,CB South, Abington, and Bensalem. Should make for some interesting football given recent seasons’ results; but then again; every season – ????

  13. North Penn’s schedule has 2 dates missing.

Sept. 6 and 13. Anyone know who they are playing those dates?

  14. Unless coach Beck has some superstars hidden away or under wraps somewhere ( which I doubt), this upcoming year does not bode well for North Penn.

Last years running offense & defense was quite good, but the players that made that so are gone.

Their passing offense & defense were virtually non-existent last year ( the main reason for 3 of their 4 loses)

I haven’t seen their schedule yet, but assuming they start out with the usual cast of characters, LaSalle, SJP and maybe Wood again, distinct possibility of starting out 0 and 2 or 0 and 3 looms.

Furthermore, if the league does indeed re-align this year, North Penn goes back to playing the big boys ( Neshaminy, Pennsbury etc.) again. Add to that Pennridge is still on the schedule, this potentially makes for a very long year indeed.

NP missed the playoffs last year for the first time in about 15 years. I see that as very possible, and most likely, again.

As a NP fan, I do hope I’m wrong.

  15. The most important thing to remember
    about your favorite team is……
you all know as well as I do the new year always
starts out with a record of 0-0
no matter what your team or my team record was last
season doesn’t predict anything on the following
    season.
Would be nice if it did but lots of things must fall into place first everyone MUST MESH everyone must
be dedicated and everyone MUST BE A LEADER
without these key things a team (WON’T)
    SUCCEED . I have seen team’s that had TON’S
of talent and went NO WHERE because
    EVERYONE WANTS THE CREDIT ….
football is a game of giving all of one’s inner fabric of life.
like a strong chain every link is as important
as the one to the left and to the right all
must aim for P.I.A.A weekend as one unit
if not ….they will never get there or at least
close. in football success is earned NOT
given take my CHIEFS for example last season
were picked by the “experts” LOL
to finish second to last but the CHIEFS
refused to be dis respected and made the
District 2 AA playoffs for the 14th straight
year and to the District 2 AA Championship game
they all were a family and will remain a family
no matter how many starters are returning

As always Good Luck LAKELAND CHIEFS
and anyone who works hard for what they want !

  16. Go look at Aliquippa’s scores and match-ups from last year and tell me they are not the Imhotep of Western Pa. Competition in 2A period isn’t that strong it’s not 4A where you can get beaten any given Friday. All the statements how the competition wasn’t that good can go for any of the good teams in 2A last year right or wrong? But other then that Imhotep from what I see will be good for some time to come a lot of young talent. I would like to see a Imhotep and Aliquippa match this year that game probably will have somewhere around 12 D1 players in it that is exciting .

  17. @ Mike

Yeah, there are 1.5 million people in the city but there’s also like a million high schools.

    @ Greg Little

Dude, you’re exaggerating. First of all, Imhotep was the best team last year in the entire Public League regardless of classification. And they didn’t get crushed by Wyomissing. Dude, I was there. They just lost a fairly competitive game. Wyomissing surged a little at the end. Alex Anzelone was a PTP’er as Dick Vitale would say. Imhotep was at least the second or third best team in the state at AA. Wyomissing was for real, what can you say. They would have held their own against a lot of good AAA and AAAA teams.

  18. @ Mike, love the way you think. Make a statement, without any merit, and stick by it no matter how wrong you may be. Let me throw some facts at you. Father Judge; 1-4 in the CL, 3-6 overall, beat their lone district 1 opponent by 20. Ryan 2-5 CL, 6-5 overall, beat their lone D1 opponent by 28. Roman, who is much better than Judge and Ryan lost to D-Town East, early when D-Town looked like the team to beat in D1. Lansdale Catholic 2-5 in the CL, not a very good team at all last year. Beat their 2 D1 opponents by a combined score of 77-14. I could go on all day with these stats, I just don’t feel like doing all the research again. (Somebody had the same gripe last year. D12 won around 75% of their games against D1). So in closing, perhaps a little research would be good before you throw out jibber jabber.

  19. I researched Biglerville and did not see any 6-6 or 6-8 lineman although the Hurda kid is a Strong Big Back…Still not sold on the Canners i need more info!!

  20. So take Imhotep out of it. Prep, Lasalle, Wood, and West Catholic. 4 Team with all those people. District 12 outside of these 4 teams is awful football. Prep, Wood, and Lasalle would most likely win the league in any league in the state with the exception of the wpial. However the rest of those daisy’s in District 12 would not compete in District 1, 11, 3, 7.
