  1. Only in the AAAA classifications can schools be pitted against other schools that have more than twice their enrollment.

consider the smallest and largest in D1 AAAA bracket

    Rustin 522 North Penn 1575
    Unionville 528 Upper Darby 1434
    Garnet Valley 576 Pennsbury 1324
    Upper Dublin 582 Neshaminy 1221

  2. District 2 AAA (Coal Region Updates) Friday it will be Lackawanna League rivals (#3 seed) Abington Heights 9-1 at (#2 seed)Scranton Prep 10-0. Abington Heights only loss was to Prep 21-13.
Sat afternoon it will be (#4 seed) Crestwood 9-1 at (#1 seed) Berwick 10-0. Crestwood’s only loss this year was in their opener 41 -7 at Berwick.

The following week will be the District 2 Final with the opening game winners meeting and the highest seed being the host.

Inter-District play will start the 3rd week (Nov 22) with District 2 vs District 11 (Southern Lehigh, Pottsville, Bethlehem Catholic, Lehighton winner) at a site to be determined.

  3. If PIAA made the records a requirement it would weed out some of the teams. Do not want to offend, but why does D4 have 4 AAA teams? Their 1 seed is 6-4. It is bad when Eastern Conference playoffs support teams with better records than some Districts in PIAA. Teams should at least be .500 to make the playoffs.

  4. @MK
Not sure what the answer is! The new points system should help, but the new SOL division of big schools will hurt the playoffs. I don’t know much about the entire make up of the other D1 leagues, but imagine 5 of them in the same conference.

Take Buddies team North Penn, 7-3, and an 11 seed. There are 4-6 teams ranked higher that NP would blow out and there are 3-4 more who probably don’t want to play them right now.

Upsets are always possible, but those teams don’t last much longer.

  5. @ ray I say this is the year Berwick and Valley West take care of d11.Saw Berwick-Valley West game, was very impressed with qb Baur, very good passer and runner, Valley West has playmakers, but big ? is defense. Berwick ran through VW defense in second half, Valley West may be in a shootout with Whitehall or Parkland.

  6. @ray

haven’t seen valley west but easton is not the Easton of old. maybe you guys can beat them but they are not at the level of whitehall or parkland. east strousburg south is not even.on eastons level. it will be interesting to see but if they beat easton they wont be challenged until they play the parkland vs. whitehall winner. i expect it to be whitehall vs valley west/easton. can’t pick against valley west because i havent seen them play yet. but who knows alot can happen in the playoffs.

  7. EASTON at. VALLEY WEST lets hear it fans big winner will be in the regional final book it!!!!! east stroudsburg has not yet played anyone other than stroudsburg 14-7 valley west was up on stroudsburg 42-7 before backups came in, i want to hear from everybody its playoff week !!!!!!!!!!!!!! could this be the year wvw makes a run . what does everyone think long trip to spartan stadium infront of 10,000 red rovers get ready!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! spartan love

  8. @Dawg93
I think 16 in D1 is appropriate, especially with the new SOL alignment. Pennsbury, Abington, Neshaminy, NP, CR North all in the same division next year and all in the 2013 D1 bracket.

All the while you have smaller schools playing nobody, racking up wins, getting into the 16 team bracket then getting crushed in the first round.

I just think any of the teams above at 7-3 would better represent in the first round and win a few games over the smaller schools.

I will gauge my points above by the Abington vs Upper Dublin game, then by the 2nd round game the winner of the CB West vs PW game.

UD, West and PW fielded their best teams in years and I’m not convinced its good enough to ever make a deep run.

  9. Where Dave?

I’m going under ” Team Info”, then under “Playoff Brackets”, then I hit “AAAA brackets” and there is no brackets for District one and some others.

Am I in the wrong place?

  10. C’mon web owners! The brackets are posted on other sites, you could merely copy & paste !
It’s nice to stay on one site for info instead of poping back & forth.

BTW, WFMZ ( channel 69) has the brackets also.

  11. The games are on the PIAA official bracket also. Future only made the dance because Jenkintown dropped out. They only made the 2A pub playoff run on the bracket because DelVal got banned from the playoffs. I guess they added them so a 4 team tourney can be formulated. Good question though, what would have happened if they won the 2A chip?

  12. @ Jive You got to go to the PIAA site to get the bracket. What is published here is something these guys put together.

Everyone gives D12 grief for the Bye when in reality any district can create a Bye. D12 plays a 9 game regular season and leave a date open at Thanksgiving. D7 plays 9 games but then has 32 teams in their playoffs. D1 plays 10 games and has 16 teams in their playoffs. Both D1 and D7 could create a bye if they wanted to. D12 has a bye mainly because they can’t find teams to fill a 11 game regular season because everyone plays on Thanksgiving except LaSalle.

  13. @PCL,
I don’t doubt the 16 team bracket. If you look up past years archives that is all they show. The games are on the brackets now, so I kinda took the, “that’s good enough to convince me route”. After seeing what happened with Future, I would have to lean your way on this one. Had the Future/Imhotep game been a PIAA playoff game, Future would not be playing this week in the A bracket. I think we all would agree that it’s easier to figure out neuroscience than the PIAA rules & regulations.

  14. Tsaf,

I believe there was a motion to shorten the season to 15 weeks about 2 years ago. It made it all the way to the last reading and came up for vote but failed. Not sure why. MAybe if someone else knows they can expand……Several years ago there was a push to create a 5A division. Several of the Eastern districts were in favor of it if I remember correctly. D7 threatened to pull out because it would adversely effect their playoff set up. The idea being creating another division would create more balance between sizes of schools as well as shortening the season….So i thing the PIAA has tried to remedy some things but it hasn’t always worked out….I agree the season is probably at least a week to long. But it looks like the 16 week set up isnt going anywhere

  15. Any body out agree that the State Football Playoff System has to many games. To be specific I mean that a sample District in AAAA may have a 16 team playoff format for a District Title but the last 4 or 5 in have losing records. That’s just not right. I’m in favor in a shorten District Playoff from 16 to ten teams. Then enter the State Playoff’s.

  16. @ Facts and Jive

The PIAA bracket only includes 16 teams, that is all that make up the PIAA tournament. The rest of the games are just district games. At the AAA and AAAA level the D12 final is considered a PIAA playoff game. In D1 only games for the Semifinals are considered PIAA playoff games.

  17. @Tsaf
I disagree again. While eliminating the first week for the other Districts, cuts down teams who can possibly get good late and make a splash in the tournament. For example, this will work good for Ryan if they were in another div.

Jive, you are one funny guy. Sorry for ,misquote but that last post was classic..

  18. @Colin

I agree. It is not an easy concept to resolve. As Jive pointed out, there are Districts that have had teams set in their brackets for 2 weeks, idle.
I just see various other methods to make it even where everyone plays the same number of playoff games. We may not agree about the teams that make. Like AB Ryan, but they should have taken care of business the whole season.
We can find the state champion in 15 weeks. We don’t need 16. That is where the flaw begins. The extra games. Leave D12 and the other Districts who are idle alone and knock off one week for D2, 3, 4, 7, 11. The 1st round games feature teams with .500 records anyway. Not perfect, but it is a start.

  19. Still shocked over the Neshaminy loss. Is Pennsbury really that good? Would love to see a rematch but it would have to be for the district title. Looks like the Skins have a better shot at the title because Pennsbury has that #2 seed Rustin to get through. Oh well, either way, Love to see that rematch and as far as you N.P. fans. Forget it!!!! Yeah, tough opening schedule but there really not that good this year. Beeping a Pennsbury Grad but watching my kid play for the Nehaminy 2001 AAAA championship team I’m still with the Skins and hoping they come up with a better game plan if they were to meat the Falcons again.
