  1. OL Coach-

You have to help me with this one. How can Frankford and GW get “byes” in the Public AAAA Playoffs, when Southern is 6-2 and leading both teams in points??? I just dont get it… In the end, it doesn’t matter cause the winner of Pub AAAA will lose to the PCL Champ. This does not make any sense to me. Please educate me!!

    From the Philly Inquirer below….

Public League playoffs. Here is the tentative schedule for the Public League Class AAAA and AA playoffs this weekend.

In Class AAAA, Frankford and George Washington, the top finishers in the Gold Division, were awarded first-round byes.

    Class AAAA First Round

    FRIDAY

Samuel Fels (Gold 4) at Southern (South 1), 6:30 p.m.

    Lincoln (South 2) at Northeast (Gold 3), 6:30 p.m.

  2. NP better not see RUSTIN in the first round. If they do beck can count all the bonus points he wants as their offseason will be starting. Rustin all about that smash mouth football run it down their throats all night

  3. OL Coach-

Trust me. I know all about Bonus points in D1. I should not have made the statement about 3 losses. I was referring to Pennridge not NP. If you play a great schedue, you dont get “penalized”.. It is the way it should be. Play the BEST. Yeah.. He has picked up at least 200 points with losses against the PCL.. So far! I wasnt thinking about NP at the time. My bad!! I agree..

  4. @Pub School, you need to think bonus points, bonus points, bonus points!

Do you know how many points Beck has picked up by playing those 3 PCL teams? Go count their win totals.

Far better to lose to those 3 than to go pound Fels or Central.

  5. I love that Coach Beck always seems to start out slow and still makes the playoffs. He’s just about the only D1 coach with the guts to play the punishing opening schedule that he does. Most of the rest are busy begging Fels, Central, Frankford to play them for those easy wins!

Here’s hoping Beck pulls it off again this year; I already have them in.

  6. NP has the toughest, by far, ” non-league” schedule in D1. You gotta play the best to be the best ( so they say), even if you get creamed ( and they sure did).

Re-alignment next year will have NP playing the big boys again ( Neshaminy, Pennsbury, Abington etc), besides the REAL big -boys in the beginning of the year ( LS, Prep etc). Will be even tougher next season.

  7. @Jive
I am in complete agreement with on what you said about North Penn. I went to see Upper Dublin and Springfield (Montco) play last week and can tell you that compared to the North Penn team that I saw play La Salle and Wood, Upper Dublin wouldn’t even be close. NP deserves major credit for scheduling tough opponents.

  8. I said before that I don’t know a whole heck of a lot about D1. However, Neshaminy is right at the top, from what I hear. Which notable team have they played? North Penn can only play their schedule, can’t blame them for that. I give NP respect because of the 3 games they play before they get to their D1 schedule. They know it won’t be easy. They know that losing to these teams will hurt their playoff chances. They know after week 3 if they will have a chance to compete in states. Can’t say that for any other team in D1. Say they didn’t play anybody of note in D1, you’re probably right. Say they don’t have a shot if they make the playoffs, you’re probably right. I say they didn’t eat cupcakes for the first 3 weeks, we all know that’s right.

  9. @ Pub

Agreed, NP hasn’t really played anyone of note in D1. Can’t compare PCL wins against them.

You’re right, Pennridge probably won’t make it.
However, teams with 3 loses can & will.
If NP wins out ( big if), they make playoffs with 3 loses. Won’t go nowhere, but they’ll be at the dance.

  10. The blow out of Carbondale by Old Forge,i think shows how weak most of the teams are in D2 this year.Below AAA it Dunmore and Old Forge i dont see another team that could compete out side the Distict.Even in AAA you have Abington ,Berwick and Scranton Prep, beside the Prep an Abington game and Berwick played a very solid Wyoming Valley West team who have they played the rest of D2 is very week this year

  11. people need to stop with the cville talk. they arent even the best team in chester county, Rustin claims that this year. Rustin is #1 in D1 AAAA will get home field through out districts. coatesville doesnt want to see them in the playoffs. Rustin has the BEST running back in D1 and one of the best defenses and one of the great coaches. Rustin brings that smash mouth football and most teams going to find that out after they take it to the chin. watch out coatesville and neshaminy RUSTIN is coming. WHO DEY THINK THEY GONNA BEAT THEM KNIGHTS? NO ONE

  12. Yo Jive-

None of the 5 teams that NP beat will be in the D1 Playoffs. NP’s only good win was against Pennridge and they prob won’t make the Playoffs this year. Nobody makes D1 playoffs with 3 losses. Will bet u a cheesesteak on Pennridge getting in. Agree PCL AAAA is very good, but NP hasn’t played anybody good in D1. Can’t compare apples to oranges.

  13. @ Mika

when are you posting the latest playoff points rankings? You know………….you’re not allowed to take the weekend off! 🙂

    @ Ron

    Not to mention Bishop Mcdevitt……….

  14. Well, Wood is proving to be human. Previous posters were correct about the chinks in their armor. (Although both of their losses are to 4A teams.) Don’t count out the District 1 entry which may be Pottsgrove. They have an very good line, a decent QB and just gobs of speed. Their achilles heel is depth.

Still, it will be a tall order to get by Wood. It looks like the D1-D12 game will be at Northeast High (Martin Stadium)in D12 this year…30 mins from Wood, 60 minutes from Pottsgrove…a long time on a bus. Good thing is Martin turf which is good for a speed team.

If Pottsgrove does the unlikely, they will give whoever the D2/D11 entry is all they can handle.

  15. @Ron
I think it shows how powerful the Catholic AAAA is. Wood is gonna give the AAA state title a heck of a run. Look at them North Penn Knights to see how good the Catholic League is. NP is 5-0 in D1, got murdered by the Catholic League.

  16. @rrmark
My response to your upset pick was, oh my bad, I didn’t realize who Tep was playing this week. I know Buddy is illiterate but where did I throw hate in my comment?
    @quiteone
If you are basing your opinion on how both played LaSalle, I’m very confused. Tep struggled with LaSalle and Prep dominated them. Prep went prevent the whole 2nd half against LaSalle and that was the only reason they moved the ball. Doesn’t translate to Tep dominating Prep at all. I guess your glasses see things much different than everybody else.

  17. @Boxer13, go to PFN (PA Football News) site, they have the computer rankings for the state, and for each district, use the PIAA formula, but not official.

My two cents on the bye weeks, my feeling is if you don’t play the same number of games as everyone else, you don’t belong there. Not playing the same number of games is that many less chances to lose and affect your ranking. You want to play on Thanksgiving, do it like Easton does.

  18. Well, looks like it was AW that ate the bad hoagies. I would have rooted for Ryan too. Guess that means I am hatin’ on em cuz I am a big, mean hater.

  19. @ OL Coach

That’s an interesting counter point. Well, if that be the case, if the bye is considered a disadvantage then by all means the PCL should do something about it. Like I said, I think the best solution is for the PCL to have their bye after the last regular season game, then they can rock and roll with the playoffs and be synchronized with the other districts.

  20. Archbishop Ryan beating Arch Wood 22-7 was shocking. Ryan was 4-3 and lost last 3 games. could mean Wood will have their hands full with either Berwick or Scranton Prep if they meet in aaa east final.
