  1. phillyboy is correct. Prep goes to Texas the week before, and then goes up to Bosco on the 7th. Should know by week 3 if Prep is for real or not. I’m leaning towards really real, however, that’s some big time games on the road.

  2. Wow. Looks like St. Joe’s Prep is going toe to toe with Bosco on September 7. This is great because SJP should have a peak year thereby giving them a decent chance of knocking off mighty Bosco.

  3. @DougD-

Hey.. Your REO Speedwagon LP is skipping. I can hear it over here. You may want to turn it over to side B.

    Go Chiefs!

  4. Hey Brian

While some may have heard, this is news to me that Randy has left Suburban One and Pennridge. Thank you for the heads up. You are right that it puts the Rams in a bind for the coming season at least. You have probably seen the realignment for 2014 for Suburban One. North Penn, Pennsbury, Neshaminy, Souderton, Pennridge, C B South, Abington, and Bensalem as the National Conference should make for some exciting games. Based on the last few seasons, it would seem the Owls of Bensalem would have the greatest challenge in this division.

  5. Will Wilson West Lawn keep the streak going? Last time they had a losing season was 1963, since then only once were they .500 and that was early 80’s, not sure of exact year, but it is second longest winning season streak in the state. 4 years undefeated in section 1 of LL-1, never done before. Time to re-load again it looks like.

Wyomissing loses a bunch of quality players, but they also tend to re-load year after year- the kids coming back got LOTS of playing time last year. This should be an interesting team to watch once again.

Any thoughts on Pottsville this year? New staff, new attitude?

  6. I’m sure most of you have heard that Randy Cuthbert from Pennridge took the Emmaus head coaching position this week. This puts Pennridge in a tough spot losing their entire coaching staff.

  7. hey mark d

your right playing in the big 11 was war every
week thats what the championship chiefs found out
when they moved to the big 11 in 1980
by dismantling your Valley View Cougars 43-8 Fact!!!!
and winning it also in ’81 sharing it in ’82
with Scranton Prep also in 1987 going
13-0 one year before the state championship was
formed being ranked 3rd best in the state under
2 AAAA schools ..besides Lakeland owning the 70’s
the Chiefs also owned from 2000 until 2006
and to your asking what we’ve done the question
is what has your Cougars done besides beating
Dallas 2 years ago for the District title
    what have they done ?
like I said even on rebuilding years the Chiefs
keep their pace of winning pride….the Cougars
were not …and trust me I’M NOT cuttting the cougars down I also was routing for them in 1992
when they won state by the way nice job
thats one thing thats on the bulls eye for the chiefs well any how nice talking with ya
    good luck to your cougars
just not on week 2 your stadium
    go chiefs!!!!

  8. What has Lakeland done lately? Well for starters they destroyed the preseason #7 state ranked team of GAR not once but twice and came within 5 pts of beating Dunmore who went to the A State championship. All other loses were less then a touchdown with the exception of the D2 championship where their QB separated his shoulder early in the second quarter but played until the end.
Being told and it being written everywhere and by everyone that they would amount to nothing and finish dead last, I think these young men proved everything they needed to, and to whom it meant most to, themselves.
For a school with less the 200 male athletes to choose from, and to become the formidable opponent they do year end and year out, maybe we should just wish them the best and cheer for high school football. If you want national champions the NFL channel can be found on your local cable provider.

  9. @Doug
one thing your wrong about in the 70 and 80 Scranton Central played big 11 football and believe me every week was a war!!!

  10. @Doug
dont get me wrong Lakeland has run a great program .I know your coach and i played football with Dan Case. I just get tired of all the Lakeland fans living in the past. What have you really won lately ? what has anyone from d2 won lately ? Believe me i have respect for how constant that program has been, but lets move on all ready, your still talking about kraky that history brother move on as Rob said what do you have coming back on the o line this year ?

  11. good day sir mdodgson

well to begin your wrong about holy cross
    never played them in history!
and we haven’t played montrose in years
and onto all time vs VALLEY VIEW and ABINGTON
HEIGHTS with VV our games have always gone
back and forth lots of respect for them also respect for our friends at ABINGTON HEIGHTS
how ever AH just started being good only since
1995 and since we dont play them much your 12-20
is defused ok onto our schedules
    2013 CHIEFS FOOTBALL as follows
    GAR AA
    VALLEY VIEW AAA
    HANOVER AREA AA
    CARBONDALE AREA AA
    SUSQUEHANNA AA
    MID VALLEY AA
    DUNMORE A
    HONESDALE AAA
    RIVERSIDE A
    WESTERN WAYNE AA

not to bad for being a small school our selves
oh and by the way yes the GOLDEN EAGLES of SCRANTON CENTRAL
were a great program in the 1970’s and early 80’s
oh and also fun fact all the teams central played
most def were NOT TOP QUALITY trust me I know!
because FACT DELAWARE VALLEY WAS JUST FORMED
in the late mid 90’s so their out and SCRANTON
NORTH POCONO WEST SCRANTON ABINGTON HEIGHTS
out of these teams AH are the only true team
of many wins since 95 yes west scranton had 1 or 2
good years of recent account and scranton last season went 11-1 . but to your point of all these BIG schools being awesome just isnt true
I def think LAKELAND does fine for the amount of
students we have hey if your gonna say smack
about the CHIEFS thats your American right
but I wont return being rude trust me
the fine people of ABINGTON HEIGHTS and
VALLEY VIEW respect us like we respect them
as always good luck to any current team you
    support oh and
    GOOOOOO CHIEFS !!!!! 🙂
    FUN FACT :
find another team that goes to the District
Championship game on a building year …you wont!!
14 straight years in Districts and yes many on building years …many teams that go through building years go 1-10 3-7 sorry brah not
Lakeland our sports teams know how to win
    good day mate:)

  12. @ Floyd Hall, Every kid that plays QB does not get mentioned in articles just because he plays QB. My guess would be that your son will have to have better than 47% completions, average more than 4 yds per carry, and spread the ball around a bit. (over half of his completions were to Shawn Pepper, who received and deserved all the press clippings) That being said, I wish him well. Don’t worry about press clippings, and let your kid be a kid. Being 16 years old is tough enough, he doesn’t need dad up his butt about being the next RG3. Sit back and enjoy watching instead of judging, he’s gonna be 40 years old before you know it, don’t miss the fun time now.

  13. D-11 football.

Catty might have solid skill players back but Pen Argyl physically beat them up. If their line play doesn’t grow my leaps and bounds then it’s hilarious to think they end up in Hershey.

AAAA football in D-11 is going to be down. Easton probably is the team to beat but they lost a ton. Liberty won’t transition to a new offense and all of a sudden be gangbusters! KJ Williams is probably the best WR in the state and their skill kids are solid. The defense last year was horrendous and their OL didn’t give the QB’s/RB’s a chance. Obviously they have to either spread the field or go back to the flexbone…and hope to use deception/power simple blocking schemes to have a chance. Liberty always has size but they don’t move well and don’t stay low and on their blocks. Nobody can make a Liberty comment positively until after week 1 of the regular season. A win over State College and then start talking…

  14. Mr Hall, don’t get caught up in the press etc and if and when your son gets mentioned. First, just be glad your son transferred and there were no issues that imposed a conundrum of a PIAA hearing as happened to my son last year. My son was ruled ineligible his entire regular season and was fortunate to play in the state playoffs. He still landed at a D2 school. So whether or not he’s rated this or mentioned in that, just get him on film, get it out to schools, keep him humble and he’ll be fine. My son started varsity qb since Fresh yr and he will be the first to tell you that he never cared whether he was mentioned in a paper or blog. Cream always rises to the top. Best of luck.

  15. Doug my point is all time you have losing records vrs the bigger schools.Yes you won some games with Valley View but you 12-20 all time that goes for Abington and the Scranton teams also losing records!Iam counting Scranton central)Yes many wins and titles for Lakeland but 8 wins a year vrs Carbondale.Montrose, Hondesdale ,Susquehanna,Midvalley, Lackawanna Trail Holy Cross thouse are the facts

  16. Hey Rob

I’m not to sure how many linemen are returning
    for Lakeland in 2013
but I can say I’m not too concerned because
even in rebuilding years Lakeland turns out
solid years. because of solid coaches
plus we have an outstanding Head Coach in
Jeff Wasilchak son of the late Jerry Wasilchak
Legendary Head Football Coach of the Chiefs
all of the 70’s up until 1984 .
with solid leadership Lakeland takes pride in many
    Championship seasons
and not to forget our awesome fan support
win or lose we the fans stick by our Chiefs
unlike some programs that when their team
losses they stop the support . Not at Lakeland!
just to set the record straight I am a strong Chiefs fan through and through I bleed
    red white and blue …..
but when the post season starts if the Chiefs arent playing.
    myself and others from Lakeland
go and support our local teams. at the end of the day in the post season we from the LFC stick together …..thanks for asking rob and good luck to your team in 2013…
    GO CHIEFS

  17. hey mark d
well your asking a difficult question
but what a I can say valley view and Lakeland
just started their rivalry again last year with the cougars just getting by us 19-14 late in the 4th
but before that early 2000’s Lakeland’s STATE PASSING RECORD LEADER Evan Kraky {passed BERWICK’S
    Ron Powlus’s record}
    and the Chiefs
HAMMERED the cougars 33-0 and won big other games as well just like when Lakeland entered the BIG 11 in 1980 the Chiefs HAMMERED the cougars 43-8
as for Dunmore try looking up who won ALL the games from 2000 thru 2004 Lakeland did all “11”
in season and District 2 championships
now onto North Pocono our last game with them was
2006 we won 41 -7 then again who doesnt beat them anymore lets look at their record from 04 on
and remember this is no cut to them North Pocono
was a power team back in the 1980’s and early 1990’s but for now they are hurting bad !
    NORTH POCONO
    2004- 1-9
    2005- 8-3
    2006- 1-9
    2007- 2-8
    2008- 2-8
    2009- 9-2
    2010- 6-5
    2011- 0-10
    2012- 0-10
not sure where you were going with them???
also we havent played Scranton since the late 90’s
and we also beat them like everyone else did they just started doing well! and our hats are tipped to them.
    nice 11-1 season knights !!!!
onto Abington Heights trust me we support the Comets in 3A they beat a much better Berwick
team for the D2 AAA title Go Comets
however the Comets were also a team that before 1995 lots of teams beat them and bad …We dont play 3A Abington Heights too much anymore but I do remember in 2004 oct 2nd at Abinton Heights LAKELAND and all state Joe Tuzze winning big 42-12

and lastly west scranton we went back and forth with the invaders they are a team that will beat you if you look past them…
but here are the best decades around the
    Lackawanna Football League {FACT: LOOK IT UP}

    DUNMORE
    2000-2008 77-25-0
    1990-1999 72-41-0
    1980-1989 79-33-2
    1970-1979 73-32-6

    LAKELAND
    2000-2008 90-18-0
    1980-1989 79-32-2
    1970-1979 84-26-0

    VALLEY VIEW
    1990-1999 86-30-1
    1980-1989 88-25-3
    1970-1979 88-21-3

well who ever you support good luck this year
and remember it doesnt matter who wins or losses
all that matters is that they do their best
    GO CHIEFS!:)

  18. Attempted to email, no link …
I would like to know how you rate the high school players and why my son has never been mentioned. His name is Breon Clark from Pennsbury High School, Fairless Hills, PA. Last year he took over as starting QB as a Sophomore and had a great season, yet I never see him mentioned in anything, yet I see players from other schools mentioned on a continuous rate. I surely hope this doesn’t occur this upcoming 2013 season. He has worked hard, transferred from Bensalem RIGHT before the 2012 season and took over as starting QB, as a Sophomore, then his team swept his division before losing to Pennridge in a close playoff game. What else does he have to do to at least get recognized ?!?! or at least be mentioned in the same breath with other players in the SOL division !

  19. Doug
Lakeland runs a great program, but food for thought what is their win loss record all time vrs
    Valley View
    Dunmore
    Abington Heights
    North Pocono
    Scranton
    West Scranton

  20. my prediction for 2013
    DISTRICT 2 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS

    CLASS “A” Dunmore
    CLASS “AA” Lakeland
    CLASS “AAA” Abington Heights
    CLASS “AAAA” Delaware Valley

my hopes are very high for Lakeland
    in class 2A ……..

last season everyone bailed on the Chiefs
picking us to finish last in Division 2
    Lackawanna Football Conference and Districts
and WOW were they ever so wrong NEVER count
    the mighty CHIEFS out
    here’s how the season went……
first game beating #7 in the pre season state ranking GAR and two time defending District 2 “AA” champs

    LAKELAND 34 – GAR 7
LAKELAND 14 – VALLEY VIEW 19 *end of game victory
    LAKELAND 34 – HANOVER AREA 15
    LAKELAND 14 – CARBONDALE 20 OT
    LAKELAND 34 – SUSQUEHANNA 21
    LAKELAND 23 – MID VALLEY 13
LAKELAND 17 – DUNMORE 22 *end of game victory
    LAKELAND 27 – HONESDALE 7
    LAKELAND 28 – RIVERSIDE 21
    LAKELAND 28 – WESTERN WAYNE 21

    DISTRICT 2 “AA” PLAYOFFS
    LAKELAND 35 – GAR 17
Note: 2012 marks the CHIEFS 14th straight
    district appearance to date…

    DISTRICT 2 “AA” CHAMPIONSHIP
    LAKELAND 7 – WYOMING AREA 20

Not to shabby for a team that was picked to have finished last …
like I said never count the CHIEFS out ….

lots of talent returning and will be fine !!!
    and plenty of community support!!!!
    GO CHIEFS!!!!
