  1. @TRAD, Don’t worry about Berwick. They won’t lose another regular season game. The only team they have left with a winning record is WB Coughlin (who was destroyed last night by WVW 56-14…yes, the same WVW Berwick handled a week earlier.) Essentially, Berwick has 5 scrimmages left. They can use the balance of the regular season to attend/scout Scranton Prep & Abington Heights & design game plans specifically for those opponents. I’m sure he’s probably not even worried about the D11 opponent. If he can get by SP/AH all he as to worry about is the winner of D1/D12 district champs for his return to Hershey. The Curry plan is falling into place nicely.

  2. Pretty excited about Berwick. Looks like they are ba’ack. Would love to see them take out Wood in the playoffs. Berwick, I think is one of only two PA teams to have ever won a mythical national championship, the other being North Hills.

Btw, can those PCN games be streamed on the internet for free, even for those that don’t have the cable channel?

Also, does anybody know if SJP still live streams their games? Can’t they make up their mind; seems like it changes every other year.

  3. What is with Berwick? Up 36-0 in the 2nd half and on about 4th and 9 they do a fake punt (is not the 1st time they have done something like that this season with the game clearly out of reach). I really don’t understand it.

  4. @rrmark, do you still get milk delivered to your house too? Come on times have changed and you either adjust or go the way of the dinosaur. Imhotep’s team, regardless of what you feel about charter or catholic schools, plays a great game of football. I’m laughing at all those people crying about the charter and catholic schools now, but were begging for school choice 15 years ago. Ya can’t have it both ways.

  5. Pottsgrove (5-0, AAA, #9) with a big win over Spring-Ford (2-2,AAAA) 14-7. Penalties and turnovers were the story. PG coughed up 4 and SF couldn’t take advantage. SF killed themselves with 159 yds in penalties (mostly unsportsmanlike conduct) on their home field. PG held their poise where SF kind of lost theirs.

PG’s defense held SF running game in check (along with Jarred Jones being “unavailable” according to his coach). SF shutdown PG’s pass offense…except for the 1 TD pass.

Devastating loss for SF. It hurts their PAC-10 chances and loss of valuable playoff points. PG’s like a less accomplished Berwick taking advantage of the AAAA teams in the PAC-10 to garner huge playoff points that will get them a high seed in the post season.

PG’s got a good chance to win D1 AAA. But I can’t see them beating Wood. It’d be nice for the PIAA to flip the brackets and have Wood/D12 play the D2/D4/D11 rep.

  6. @ PCL fan

My friend, please don’t insight a riot from the LSalle faithful. I’m worried your post will engage a Betty Ford Clinic admission!!

Magarity received that concussion EARLY, as in 1stQ/1st Half of that Judge game following one of his frequent QB “frolics” out of the pocket. Unfortunately Matt never learned to get down once yardage was made and opponents were closing.
Btw: hard to get a concussion when playing DB when you don’t hit anyone or vice versa, look at the tape, it was not when you perceived. Throwing that out there on Coach Gordon is beyond weak, it’s disingenuous..
Magarity was ‘forced’ to sit out most of the season because of it, following PCS protocol.
These are the facts of the case, and they are indisputable..

    Time’s yours..

  7. @ MarkD
    first things first

my comments about BERWICK and SOUTHERN COLUMBIA
having a better chance at reaching the State Championship then our local’s was most def NO
disrespect to them. also you don’t need to watch a game to see the final score LOL its called WNEP
and with knowing coach curry’s and coach Roth’s
football wizard ways WITH talented teams trust me they will go deep into states .
Also with no disrespect to Abington Heights
yes they are undefeated but who did they play yet?
A rebuilding DALLAS team and a half and half WILLIAMSPORT team the Comets have not been truly tested yet also DELAWARE VALLEY who they beat were also rebuilding . and to Dunmore and old forge I think Old Forge will return the favor of getting beat and beat Dunmore in District’s and either will lose to Southern in state’s hey if I’m wrong so be it if not
best of luck to the DAWG’S and TIGER’S

  8. @stevens thats why i like programs like Imhotep, they play their second and third wave of players on their opponents so they can get the experience.
I love that because when the next season comes know what or who’s on the dept chart. Thats why I love pop warner mandatory play it makes people that coach in some case better coaches. The star of the team doesn’t get over work and force the weak player to get better.

  9. @rrmark what do you mean by brand of football at imhotep. Imhotep has a classy team and staff from what I see. They don’t run the score up on teams that they dominate like other teams do..

  10. @Mike,
I know nothing about Catty, not gonna pretend I do. Any info I get on out of area teams, for me, I get on this message board. I pretty much trust what people say, cause generally they stand by it and mostly it makes sense. Curious about this Bradley kid. First you said you knew his situation because your son works with his father. Now you are saying you know his situation because you teach at the school. Either or would make sense, but why wouldn’t you just say you were a teacher in the first place? Small school in a small town, everybody knows everybody’s business, especially a top player on the towns high school football team. Not trying to bust your stones, just doesn’t add up in my mind. If you’re just a fan, you’re just a fan. Throw out opinions all day, that’s what makes this site so much fun. Just be genuine, we don’t all get along, but I think we all respect each others passion and honesty.

  11. None of the catty kids have d1 offers. I am a teacher at Catty and all 3 of the kids mentioned as having offers we’re meeting with a division coach on Tuesday or Wednesday last week. Bradley is a great kid, but not on the same planet as Persa, and Nosovitch.

  12. I’d like to root for eastern against the western team, of course, but I just don’t think I can root for Imhotep. That brand of football just isn’t in the spirit of PA high school football. I am proud of eastern public AA teams like Wyomissing, Wilson, Pen Argyl, Northern Lehigh, Mount Carmel etc… that have won titles or gone deep into the playoffs. Not so much with the Catholic or charter schools. Whoever lives in that school district and is eligible is who should play. If Imhotep reaches the final, I will most likely be rooting for the western rep.

  13. @ O.L. Coach

Gordon had McGarity in the game in the 2010 Fr Judge game when it was 42-0 he got a concussion playing defense and was never the same that season. I never did understand that move.

  14. Watching Berwick vs Selinsgrove on PCN. Berwick get the ball, up 36-0 with 20 some odd seconds left in the half, around their own 40 yd line. Berwick getting the ball to start the 2nd half. Mercy rule is in effect. So they run out the 20 seconds and go into half with a 36 point lead, right? No, they throw, throw, throw and try to put more points up on the board.

  15. @ JiveTurkey

Well put and I agree almost entirely. They are much deeper and more talented then any AA team that I have seen, those schools have much lower enrollments and usually only have 50-60 guys on the team. Their best players go both ways so injuries are devastating because of lack of depth. It will take a flawless performance by another AA team to beat Imhotep in the state playoffs, even then that might not be enough if Tep is on their game.

  16. I’m not rooting for them to win AA. I’m one of the guys that pulls for Santa Clara to knock off Kentucky in March. Just being honest in my opinion on their team. They have a line averaging 300lbs, huge for AA. Terrific RB’s, WR’s, DB’s, LB’s. The only question mark I see is their QB. He struggles on slant routes, out routes, and still is trying to find the “touch” throw. But he is still a heck of an athlete. If their WR’s keep running right past other teams DB’s, he can throw it as far as anybody. Most of us saw the LaSalle game. Chuck it, and our athlete will out run yours, TD. Would LaSalle have beat them if their Syracuse commit LB was playing? I think it would have been a much different game. Machine? OK maybe not a machine, but they’ve been together 2 years, as a group now. In week one they looked as in sync as most teams do in week 10. We will know in a couple months if they are, or are not the best AA team. I stand by what I said about talent, it flat out wins. As long as team, with considerably more talent, plays a decent game, they will win 99% of the time. The other 1% is saved for Disney movies.

  17. Imohtep, Wood, St. Joe’s and La Salle are have talented young men on their teams. The dilemma with some of the teams are the number of “new” players playing at the varsity level this year. Looking at LS, they lost a lot of their key players from the past 2 years (Coleman, Resch, Poquie, etc.). The 2nd string players were not played much last year even when the team was playing under the mercy rule.

What does that cause – a group of seniors and underclassmen who are starting for the first time as varsity players. Is there a lot of talent in the new senior class – absolutely. Look at Levi Hardy, Nick Rinella, Matt Raczak, Nick Buckley – not names that were that prevalent last year but this year are finally showing what they can do. One of you referenced it earlier about putting the 2nd string players in when the team is up by 5 TD’s. I agree – LS wouldn’t be in the situation they are in. Will they get out of it? Tomorrow we will see.

Oh and by the way, even when LS was nationally ranked and won the state championship, D1 schools still weren’t knocking down their doors……. can anyone explain why?

  18. Right off the bat I’m rooting for Imhotep to take the AA state title this year. They’re a strong team, but I would not consider them to be “an absolute machine”. They were fortunate to beat LaSalle.

  19. Wyomissing doesn’t win last year without the kicker making the field goal, the other running backs besides Anzalone, the line opening up the holes, and some key catches. Anzalone was the only D1 on the squad if memory serves me.

  20. @Doug D Dunmore or Old Forge might have something to say about Southern trip to Hershey as will Scranton Prep or Abington about Berwicks lots of football to be played i dont think after 4 games we should be punching tickets

  21. I agree with mgguy. It’s way to early to even indicate who has a better win loss record with only 4 games played. Everyone should be waiting until week 8 to really see any contenders. Because a team may have D1 caliper players makes me believe then that team ought to be winning by at least 5 TD’s a game with the second or third stringers playing most of the 2nd halve. I doubt many schools will do this. Team Players yes Team Players are what makes a Team Successful and simple fundamental football teaching. Just take a look over the past year (s) champions. Not many have more than 2 Di caliper players just hard nosed type football traditions. Gentlemen that’s Eastern Pa. Football. Let’s get real………..
