  1. @Ron Disagree if you win your games the points come, every conference has only so many points to go around so it your non conference schedule where you can pick up points.Wyoming Valley West has Scranton Stroudsburge and Del Valley all AAAA teams with point opportunity. They play 5 AAAA team where Scranton plays only 3.In AAA the WVC team was the top seed the last 2 years,Berwick actually has an atvantage becuse they play no small schools.Except for Abington all AAA teams in the LFC play a A or AA school some one of each. For the LFC it be great to have Berwick and WVW in the LFC it would get the a and aa teams off the AAA teams Schedule

  2. @phillyboy,

“What time is it? …..Knight time! North Penn’s power will prove too much for the overrated LaSalle.”

You just love bashing LS even though you have no insight into the program, school or young men who play there.

Each year you persist; it’s an old worn out schtick. Perhaps you should stick to commenting on programs you know something about like North Penn.

  3. @Anon, #17, “he could be a great player though”?

Nothing against the young man but he’s played exactly 4 minutes of varsity ball and you’re already using “great”.

Use the word great when it should be used.

  4. Damn, I must have banged my head! I’m agreeing with too many people on here this week. I agree with Steve that Brett Gordon was a terrific QB. But like you said, he had a cannon for an arm. That can’t be taught. I guess if I had the tools, I would go where I thought was the best place to master my craft. I also agree with phillyboy that it’s very odd that the 2 best QB transfers both go there. From what I was told, the kid from Ohio was looking at Prep, LaSalle, and Penn Charter. Wasn’t gonna start at Prep, so that was out. I don’t think Penn Charter has a varsity football team any more (haha), so LaSalle was the choice. Still think it’s strange that the other kid would go there too with the odds of playing against him. There are 2 AAAA Catholic League teams that could have improved drastically if #17 would have chosen to go to either. He’d also be playing and not watching, I don’t get it.

  5. phillyboy 18 starting positions to replace is rebuilding which makes last Saturday night’s domination even more ridiculous. The offensive line dominated the line of scrimmage and there were no transfers there. The defense held NP to under 200 yards and there were no transfers there. Its coaching “dude” plain and simple, plus a school that recruits itself. Just sayin’.

  6. I’m sure Gordon is a very good coach. But give me a break. Dude, there was somewhat of a void after last year and “by rights” they should have to struggle a little bit during the rebuilding seasons like every other program. But no, out of no where 2 excellent QBs transfer there. Yes, it’s a free country and all but it’s cheesy. That’s why I have so much respect for what CB West did all those years. They had organic home grown teams. Sure, there might have been a kid here or there who moved into the district to able to play there but somehow I don’t think that’s as bad as the school being cherry picked by a new arrival to the area or receiving a transfer from a program that is already decent. It’ legal but that doesn’t mean I have to like it. Just sayin.

  7. @Jive

Just havinng a little fun with the LaSallian comment. I have actually heard good things about both QBs from LaSalle. I don’t think there was much of a controversy by what I have heard. I think the Gordons have a mold set up in the lockeroom for their qbs. They are all athletic, all physical, all leaders and all Gordon like which could cause a bit of an issue with the starting QB. His 6-4 frame can’t be Gordon like and it might be a bit of challenge for their system. Those Gordon like qbs have caused the Prep an issue for a while now on both side of the ball. On the offensive side they are Prep killers and on the defensive side they prepared the LaSalle defense to shut us down last year in the playoffs. Maybe the new junior qb will be an advantage for the Prep in an indirect way.

  8. @ Jive

I think Brett Gordon is all that!! He seems to have the pulse on developing quarterbacks and comes from QB lineage(Dad,GF). Let’s not forget he was an All-State QB who held the PA passing records until broken by Smith in ’09 and All-American QB out of ‘Nova who’s yardage records I believe still stand. Excellent leader, gun of an arm, only drawback, ~5’9”.
I believe this the 1st time he’s ever had QB’s >6’ to work with. Loughery was “listed” at 6’1”, NOT….
Harrison, Loughery, Magarity, Kane were NOT blue chip QB prospects when they arrived at Wyndmoor, but their numbers are astonishing! Got to give them credit, that entire coaching staff are solid, dedicated men.

  9. @ GaryD WVW has same problem as Berwick. WVC is too weak for both teams to get enough state points to get home seeds in playoffs, WVW has 2 tough games, Scranton and Berwick. They play 5 weak AAA games plus Williamsport and Hazleton which might give them 5 wins together. Berwick has same problem, except for WVW they could play their second string and win. Both WVW and Berwick should apply to LFC which is much stronger every year and get ready for d2 playoffs.

  10. @ Paul
Thanks for the info. I didn’t see Judge vs EA game, but #10 had kind of a rough game, 10-29 155 with 2 picks. I saw them scrimmage King and #11 looked pretty good. I just figured, by the way #11 played in the scrimmage, that 10 must be lights out to overtake the starting spot. I’ll see them play Northeast in 2 weeks. I wanted to go see them this Saturday evening, but I’m pretty sure there is another game I want to watch. Can’t remember who’s playing in that game, but for some odd reason I wanted to see it. Guess I’ll go back and check my calendar.

  11. @Jive. The Carroll kid came in the class with Herron. With the thinking that Herron was the QB of the future, he moved to Upper Moreland for a cup of coffee. Now he’s at FJ and he did pretty well from what I heard with the weapons that he had. La Salle has always had very capable QBs.

  12. @17th
I’m not a LaSalle guy at all. Just seems like they’ve been looking pretty good at the QB position for the past few years, wanted peoples thoughts on why. Is Gordon a great QB coach? He may be, but John Gruden couldn’t turn a kid with no talent into RG3. Just saying these are some of the higher end talents at QB, why go to the same school? Maybe they’re not as talented as I think. I thought 14 looked real good Saturday, I have no clue on 17, thought somebody said he is challenging 14. Judge kid wasn’t the starter a week ago, and now he is. Judge shouldn’t be great, so maybe he’s not either, maybe he is. I don’t know, that’s why I threw it out there.

  13. @jive turkey, #17 is not challenging anyone for reps at LS. He’s the backup QB; he’ll only see the field in situations like last week.

  14. If WVW doesn’t win a district title – time to move on from Keating. They have a super star coaching staff. They’ve had top players for the past few years in WVC even the state with Geno Lewis. Its win now or else

  15. I watched LaSalle play NP from Saturday. LaSalle QB looked very good, 16-25 181 2TD’s, with a couple drops that were thrown well. I’m not familiar with either QB on their team but if 17 is challenging 14 for reps, that’s a heck of a tandem. Let’s not forget the kid that transferred to Judge, he is starting there. Pure coincidence or is LaSalle turning into a QB academy?

  16. PCL fan, yea I remember that. But I wasn’t discounting it. I just wasnt there. I saw something on the Internet about the camp.

  17. @ Without a doubt

I agree with your take. It is usually skill players that wins these kinds of games. LaSalle needs to make TEP throw to beat them. Put 7 in the box to stop the run and go from there.

  18. Should be a great game Saturday night between La Salle and IMHO. With all the talk about the Gordons, I still think the best coach on that team is Steinmetz, the defensive coach. He goes in with a pretty good game plan, and then, if needed, makes the best adjustments.

  19. Huck your comment on the Soph LaSalle QB was:

“Supposedly the kid did well at some kind of QB camp”

That was after you checked around on him. Gordon is high on both his QBs.

  20. @steve

No doubt that with 10 new starters on Offense and 8 new on defense, along with many Juniors playing and even some sophs, LaSalle is looking at 2014 as their year. Tep is a physical mismatch on the line of scrimmage, LS is probably deeper in the skill positions. Bottom line, if Tep can handle the multiple formation offense that LS runs, which is something they probably haven’t seen before, they should win. It should be interesting.

  21. Well fellas, back from Atlanta. Roll Tide Roll..

Seems like week 1 went w/o a major hitch, didn’t miss much. Big boys won Big!
On to week 2, the much anticipated week 2!!

For you boys with a difficult time with reading and comprehension, I re-submit the following coaches comments via this site:

    Coaches comments:

    How’s your offensive line?

“We have our center back. He is Gordon Thomas. He was named honorable mention all-state last year. He is getting some division one looks. We have our guard back from last year and he was our only two-way player. He is Tyrone Barge. He is getting division one looks. My left tackle is Taleem Muhammad and the other tackle is Aaron Ruff. He gave a verbal commitment to Temple. He was first team all-state last year. Rivals had him number one in the state and 24th nationally as a tackle. So we have four of the five lineman returning from last year’s team. The guy that is going to get the fifth spot was a freshman last year. He is John Carlo. He is a sophomore and is 6-foot-5, 285-pounds.”

“Our tight end is going to be a sophomore and started last year. He is Naseir Upshur. He is an up and coming player and one of the top from our freshman class. He is a tall kid at 6-foot-4.”

    That’s an O-line that averages ~6’4″ 295+ lbs.

I know Dom D’Addona is a fabulous line coach, the results speak for themselves, but it might take an act of Zeus to combat the above. I have a difficult time reasoning how any team 2A-4A can handle that. We’ll see…
One thing is certain, come Sat. night 6pm, the boys in Blue & Gold will show up and play hard, and play to win!!

As said, while this game has massive City bragging rights for THIS year, still the most important game on the LS schedule is the “2nd” Prep game, if occurs?? Looks like Ryan and Roman are no schlepps this year fellows. Regardless, I maintain anything LaSalle does this year is gravy, they will be good, still think 2014 looks even more promising, health dependent! IMHO..

If Tep does win this game, I hope the adolescence of the Pub zealots/Private haters will gain some class in their rhetoric? Wishful thinking…

    Time’s Yours…

  22. @sfieldspartans50

As a complete outsider I can’t begin to ease your anticipation of Springfield’s success this season. The Spartan’s seem to be a club a little too strong for the Bicentennial League and a little small for the Sub One American. The next opponent, Neumann-Goretti is their only other same-size school on their schedule. I would think the five 4A schools in the division and on the schedule would be a big challenge. It would seem three or four wins would be a fine accomplishment. Regardless, credit should be given to the school and team for accepting the obvious challenge and accolades should not be awarded solely on the win-loss record. Good luck to the Spartans.

  23. after the blowout against lower moreland do you think Springfield can win anymore games, and any in suburban one?
