  1. The Parkland vs. Wilson WL, was physical and lots of speed. Parkland’s Defense is strong and speed in secondary. There run a 3-5-3 def.. Enjoy..

  2. @STeveS, nice observations.

The questions about LaSalle revolve around the line of scrimmage; nice to hear the Oline is coming around.

  3. Liberty was playing their backup’s and JV’s against Williamsport. Concentrating on ES North because they like State College (Liberty’s first opponent) runs the same offense. It was cool to see a tri scrimmage and all three teams got work in.
The ‘Port had a really big team. Good luck.

  4. Got to watch LaSalle – Downington scrimmage.

Shurmur showed promise. Was able to make a lot of great plays. Looks like LS OLine is sharp.

Dline needs work. Downingtown was able to make some great plays (QB sneaks and runs by WR) and moved the ball too easily down field. This seems to be LS weakest point.

Special teams looks to be solid. One impressive punt and chip shot xtra pt. One bad snap or missed hold.

@ OL Coach – It was a scrimmage – no score.

  5. Bloomsburg looked very good against CMVT. Not exactly even competition but the Panther’s defense and the Klingerman boys were outstanding. The Panthers need a lot of work on their pass protection though as the Rams were able to apply pressure most of the scrimmage. Bloom may also have some depth issues as there was a steep drop off from the 1st to 2nd teams. Bloom may have a sleeper in this young running back they have. Very fast and excellent agility in the open field.

  6. @Jive

Great synopsis of the GW vs Roman scrimmage. Roman was clearly the better team once they went into a game situation.

I really liked the way Roman’s defense played. They mixed up their fronts on every play (3 man/4man) and were bringing lots of pressure from their linebackers and GW could not block it.

#36 for Roman (I believe McCort?) was very impressive both running and catching the ball.

#85 for Roman was a man child on the D-Line. Very impressive size as well.

#5 for GW I believe was Ken Everage. He is a great RB but is very injury prone. If He can stay healthy, the GW run game will be formidable.

The GW QB was John Santos most of the game. Transfer Cedric Wright has been battling an ankle injury since the start of camp and hasn’t played much at all.

One kid that really stood out for GW IMO was Haasan Brockman as a change of pace type QB to run the option. That was a new wrinkle for GW and He had roughly 140 yards on a handful of carries including a long TD run. It will be interesting to see if they continue to add the option play as part of the offense.

  7. @ 17th & G,
As we’ve said before, last year’s defensive front 7 was a special group, especially the LB’s. They were also great leaders, very difficult to replace. Folks seem to be mesmerized by some of SJ’s specialty personnel, we’ll see..

  8. Now for the scrimmage I did see, Washington and Roman. During the first hour the 10 10 10 10 thing didn’t prove to be much of anything to see. Once the chains were pulled out it got pretty interesting. Roman had the ball first and went 60yds on 5 or 6 plays for a TD. Washington then went 60yds on their first carry. For Washington, those 60yds might have been 85% of their total yards, they couldn’t move the ball on any of their other 4 possessions. Washington did have another long run brought back on a holding call. Washington’s RB’s were very small, but #5 can absolutely fly. Roman had 4 possessions and scored on all 4. Neither team got much going through the air, Wash QB has big arm, but a little to big all day. Roman rolled 3 QB’s over and over all morning. Roman ground game moved the ball at will. #2 and #36, pretty sure last years starters, looked very good. #3 and #33 came in for the starters when they needed a break, and the ground game didn’t miss a beat. Don’t think this is any indication of what either team will be. Washington will compete for the AAAA Pub title, and Roman will finish third in the Catholic league.

  9. Didn’t get to see Tep and Prep go at it on Saturday, plenty of time to see both teams and didn’t feel like going over to the jug handle state to see them. From what I’ve read on here, and heard from others, it pretty much went as expected. Tep line is big and strong, #20 might be the best back in the district. Prep rolled in players on offense and really couldn’t get much going. I think once Prep settles on a rotation, they will be a beast in AAAA. Tep will run the ball all over most teams they see. Somebody said Prep DB’s looked great. My guess is, just like last year, throwing the football is Teps weak spot. Prep DB’s are very good, but most DB’s will look good against Tep passing game. Should know exactly what both teams are after week 2.

  10. All the buzz around SJP (prep)has been exactly that buzz. This team has lost so much and still has so much but it is so in-experienced. This scrimmage was pretty close to what I expected. IMTP looked big, fast and experienced and SJP looked not so big, some what fast and inexperienced.

IMTP is as close to a complete team as you can put on the field. That offensive line is something to be marveled at as football fan. There might not be a better line in the PIAA. However SJP d-line battled and had their moments.

Without a doubt IMTP should be considered one of the top teams in the PIAA.

SJP has the talent but they need to nail down their plan. I think I mentioned before they will have a slow start and this scrimmage was indicative of exactly that process. Scrimmages are for learning and I think the Prep learned a heap full. The Prep aready has injury issues, that they will have to deal with a lack of depth, and they still rolled players all day. If you question how uncertain things are consider 5 running backs, Two QBS, multiple LBs, CBs and the list goes on and they were still in the scrimmage the entire day.

Big round of applause to IMTP they are a special team and be patient on The Prep they will be there when it counts.

  11. Central Dauphin looked strong against McCaskey. While they have a fresh young team they have some strong key players returning in Big Offensive/Defensive Lineman Dalton Brill, Linebackers Codie Zimmerman and Ben Mosey. Nate Dickey in at QB with a strong arm and Raleigh Sirb and Manny Gonzalez looking strong. They dominated McCaskey the entire scrimmage.

  12. Time for Zaruta to go home? Nice. Lets bring back the other guy. He’s suing to get his job back right? He should just get his job back so the district can save legal fees instead of doing what’s right. Lets keep arse hats on the sidelines. After all, who cares how they comport themselves as representatives of their school and district? Winning is absolutely the most important thing and we should realign our priorities such that abusive personnel are on our sidelines. After all, they’re just good ole boys working the refs. An f-F-bomb here and there is no big deal. Its not very likely that the kids would emulate their coach since all our kids have such stable home lives and the benefit of strong father figures.

  13. You’re all taking scrimmages far too seriously; keeping score? Really?

Scrimmages are a controlled practice session which serve a purpose, mostly for coaches, but they are not games and results should not be viewed as game results.

  14. @phillyboy

I guess we’ll see how this season goes for them. It just seems as though there’s an awful lot of talent there…and from what I read from those of you more familiar with the program, coaching is solid.

  15. Tep hasn’t won a state title yet at AA. If it ends up that they’re ALL that, then they could move up a class. Erie Cathedral Prep used to do that.

  16. @ ????

No problem. You did read it wrong, don’t have to apologize, unless your my sister!!

I suggested to my brother ‘Jive’ awhile ago that Tep might field the finest team in the state regardless of class?? They certainly have 4A talent.

  17. Scranton Prep looked extremely dominant over Crestwood today. Crestwood only managed to score against prep’s 2nd team defense while prep had 4 scores throughout game situation. So far they’re living up to maxpreps high pre-season ranking.

  18. I was at the Easton vs Scranton game. When they went live Scranton couldnt score and Easton’s Shane Simpson scores twice. EASTON 14-0

  19. @steve

Why would you say that just because theses kids worked hard for a tuff win over prep you think that it was easily giving because of recuits? If they recuit so much who did they bring in this year please tell me. But on the other hand prep defensive running game could not stop imhoteps run game there young studs running backs had a great game. And the pass defense was strong for prep. Prep was strong coming out, but got stopped short and had to punt the ball from there on imhotep took control.
