  1. If Old Forge is a roller coaster they’re approaching the top…not heading down the hill. Their line is very experienced. They play tough defense. Teams start at their line and Offense wins games but Defense wins Championships…

Dunmore should be favored to win Division II and Old Forge should be STRONG favorites to win Division III.

Like last year the only blemish to either’s Regular Season’s record should be the game against each other.

  2. @Joe Dobbs
Yes i did forget about Old Forge. That should be 2 great games this year,i dont think either really has to much competion in that class

  3. I’m interested to see if Old Forge can be competitive consistently enough to challenge Dunmore. They’ve always been a roller coaster team from year to year. I just hope they continue to crush Riverside. No wonder he got booed by the locals when he was hired. If he continues to get crushed by their rival, he will be back in West Slide as a receivers coach where he belongs

  4. @phillyboy:

Maybe this is the year Pennsbury bests Easton.
They got them at home. Not so sure. Easton got this RB ( Simpson) back from injury. Pennsbury got to stop him.

  5. @Bertsilvestr
Abington has a chance and Berwick has a real good chance and i tell you why coaching. If Valley View had a coach they would have made it to the easten final.Curry still has a few tricks up his selve to compete at the state level and Abington has one of the better staffs in D2. Last year that
Abington team was pretty beat up by the time they faced A.C.C not a excuse everbody hurting at that time a year, but it was a fact.

  6. @phillyboy,

Easton lost two valuable football players as they decided not to come out for the team. I don’t use names because after all they are just kids. I think a starter on the OL and I think a DL or LB?!?! Anyways, Easton returns starting QB and RB…RB is very fast and shifty…three year starter. Always a tough team, but probably beatable this year if Pennsbury is gonna be strong.

  7. Would like to see Pennsbury beat Easton one of these years. If they expect to battle with the big boys they got to get out of the blocks faster and stop letting Easton be their daddy.

  8. Man, whatever happened to Manheim Central? Do they still exist? I haven’t heard head or tail of them in quite a while. That ’03 team was really good. Saw them beat Strath Haven 3-0 in the eastern final. Regret that I blew off driving out to Hershey for the final, a total classic. Well, I got the DVD anyway.

  9. Guys, concerning the Eastern final possibilities for Berwick and Abington, and that District 11 is weak, remember that in recent memory the only District 2 team that came anywhere close to getting by the first round was Valley View in 2011, and that wasn’t one of ACC’s vintage teams.
Last year, what was supposed to be an average ACC team shut out an Abington team which was playing very well at season’s end.

  10. Rumor has it that Neshaminy might be the team to beat in Sub. 1. Pennsbury will make some noise also.
But CR South usually has a very competitive team.
I believe CR South plays both those teams above, so we’ll find out in short order.

  11. Thanks Jake, beside Dunmore doent any of the AA or A teams have anything this year? in the Lackawanna Conference

  12. You Berwick fans are forgetting a very stout up and coming young team that made it to Quarters last year and that it Selinsgrove. They could very well meet deep in the playoffs.

  13. @ mark d I think Scranton Prep will be good this year and Del Val will be good but nothing like last year. Prep will surprise some teams and will compete with AH for the league title.

  14. By the way, I also think Berwick has a good chance to reach the eastern finals (same with Abington heights) considering D11 aaa is down with ACC not the typical power they usually are and d4 AAA being bad again.

  15. Any one have a read on the Lackawanna conference ?ALL i heard is Abington is big and strong with some great players, and Scranton should be tough behind McCarthy. After that nobody seems to have any info on the rest of the conference.

  16. @Jake

I also think Pittston can upset a few teams. I saw them play Coughlin last year and they looked good. I just have a feeling they’re going to be in a lot of games where they lose by 3 or 4 pts.I do think they’ll beat WA though.

  17. @Rob great article on D2 Arab I look forward to your posts in the future. I also heard that WVW is down this year and had some trouble against some mediocre teams during passing scrimmages this summer. Also Pittston Area might be a team who surprises people not saying going undefeated but may pull off a few upsets throughout the year. Dallas is having some issues and rumor is Johnson isn’t eligible to play this year. He huge favorite in the WVC this year has to be Berwick they return a bunch at key spots and have some talented younger kids to fill the holes from last years departing seniors

  18. WVC predictions:

    4A

    1. Valley West. Not the greatest team on paper, lots of question marks, but 4A is weak this year in D2. I think Valley West can finish 7-3 but also 4-6.

    2. Hazleton. Hazleton should improve this year. They need to get back to being the solid team that they were a few years ago

    3. Williamsport. Not looking good for Billport this year. May go winless save Tunkhannock

    3A

    1. Berwick. I think Berwick is a tad overrated but there’s no question they have a solid team. Curry is back at QB, a transfer RB and a good receiver in Force who will burst on to the scene this year. They will be big up front and have a good linebacker in Stout and a good DB Thomas.

    2. Dallas. I know they lost a lot but Dallas almost always reloads, even if some think Zaruta is not a good coach. They have a solid D end in Gately, an all star 2 way lineman Monk and a very skilled wideout Johnson.

    3. Crestwood. They return their Qb Popson and RB Aigledinger. That’s a nice combo right there.

    4. Coughlin. Seems like coughlin is always average every year, and that’s where I think they’ll be this year–average. QB is back but didn’t throw much last year, no proven WRs (as usual) but they do have a good RB back in Cole. Another big lineman in the twin brother Pilch and they should have a decent year

    5. Pittston. Pittston has some good players but there are some spots that don’t look very promising or have question marks. I think they’ll be competitive but won’t win many games.

    6. Tunkhannock. Rebuilding again. Hard to believe a school like Tunkhannock can’t win.

    2A/A

    1. Lake Lehman. If Lehman had their RB Van Scoy playing football this year I would feel a lot better about this pick. Still, Lehman should be good. Jones is obviously a tank and they’ll have a good defense despite their weak schedule. Week 1 show down with Old Forge will tell us a lot about this team– I think they will lose that game and go 8-2

    2. Wyoming Area. Like Dallas, they lost a lot. Luckily for them, they have enough talent and 2A is very weak. Skursky is a big LB/FB and they should have a good Defense.

    3. Meyers. Not sold on Meyers. They gave up a ton of yards/points last year but they have a lot of kids returning. Their stud WR DeMarco moved to QB and they lost their RB Bennett so it will be interesting to see how they do. They also play Old Forge in week 2.

    4. Northwest. Northwest is like coughlin. They run a lot, never pass and go 5-5/ 6-4 every year and play a very weak out of conference slate. This year will be like the previous 3 seasons.

    5. GAR. GAR is sliding and it showed a little last year. Gone is their QB from last year who was a good passer, their WR Benton is gone who had a ton of grabs, and D1 recruits Skrep and Soto are gone. They will be very small this year and i’m hearing their one starting receiver from last year isn’t playing this year.

    6. Nanticoke. They haven’t had a winning season in 10 years. Nothing is changing in the Coke

    7. Hanover. They are going to stink again this year, which is strange considering Hanover is always decent. They are young again this year but they should be a contender next year.

    8. Redeemer. Redeemer actually has the best WR/QB combo in the WVC in Strickland and Kerr but no o line or defense will once again doom HR.

  19. @ Jake Kowalski decided to play at Berwick because he knows Coach Curry recruits colleges to come after his seniors.Berwick was overstocked with wr last year CJ will throw a lot but Berwick will pound the ball to keep defense honest. Biggest ? will be run defense WVC teams are soft again except Valley West. I am looking forward to the Central Dauphin scrimmage, which I think will be best team Berwick will face until d2 playoffs.

  20. Phillyboy,

The 16-week schedule is an while other issue. But as long as the PIAA says that D1 gets to play each other from weeks 11 to 14, then 16 it has to be.

This may be addressed already, but was Coatesville in the top 8 last year? If not, then the current system worked.
