  1. Truth,

Understanding that 7-on-7’s aren’t the be all end all, but do you have deny insight on GW/IC 7/7? I’m assuming you still went. Thanks.

  2. Boys-

I would suggest a campout for all the PCL/LaSalle fans in the Poconos. You could put all your chairs in a “circle” and have alot of fun with one another over a bonfire. You could roast marshmallows and talk football.

  3. @Dawg93, really, if you’re going to run your mouth, know a few facts.

As for the Lehigh Valley being such a state power, such a hotbed of hs football, lets review the facts. Since 2008 when the PCL joined D12 and the PIAA, here is their record against D11:

    AAAA: PCL 7-0
    AAA: PCL 2-1
    AA: PCL 4-0

Most of these games were state playoff games against the best D11 has to ofer; here are some of the representative scores:

    43 – 20, 48 – 3, 28 – 7, 70 – 14, 36 – 6, 63 – 20, 55 – 14, 32 – 7.

The average score for all 14 games is 37 – 14.

Don’t mistake beating up on other D11 or D2 schools with being a state power.

Do we need to go on?

  4. @Dawg 93

Historically, yes. At the 4A level, there hasn’t been to much to cheer about recently when the LV champion proceeds into States.

  5. Hey mgguy. Guess this blog should be called South Eastern Pa. Football Blog… What a pity that everyone seems to be an expert before the season even starts. But when you look at the historical data with Pa. High School Football it seems that the hot bed of success comes from the Lehigh Valley and Mid state teams. Let the season start and see how the Teams progress from game one to mid season. Then we’ll know where the strength really lays.

  6. I will be checking out the Imhotep at Washington 7on7 game tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5pm. Have JiveTurkey, stop by so we can shoot the sheez-nick.. See ya there buddy!

  7. @joedobbs

Redeemer probably has the best Qb/Wr combo in the wvc, no doubt. But like you said their defense is awful. Noooo way they should be mentioned in the playoff hunt

  8. LaSalle probably doesn’t have a “cupcake” on the schedule, but based on recent history, strength in numbers, excellent coaching, and recent ability to reload, then I have to think that them losing five games is a stretch.

IMO, they are still the team to beat until proven otherwise.

I think it’s possible that SJP could have a special season, but I agree with some others that it’s not a lock at this point. They return a bushel of skill kids, but only one OL and just three starters from an excellent defense. Those LBs last year and DL Paul Johnson were dynamite. Also, they lost a talented, future D-1 WR, rising sophomore WR to transfer.

With that said, I think Infante and his staff are getting the program back to where they also just reload. Gun to my head I think they’ll be pretty good, but I don’t want to diminish their losses as no big deal just yet.

  9. D2-AA As long as Lakeland puts a team on the field they shouldn’t be discounted.

I believe the talk about Holy Redeemer is based on their QB. They’ll score points but they always give up more than they score.

  10. @steve

So many people dismiss the impact of the loss of the class 2013 at the Prep! There were so many leaders on that team that qualifies them as a unique group. This class of 2014 can’t compare to last year. Martin, McCallister and Moffet are the only senior returning starters and that can’t match the graduating class!

I am telling everyone this year the Prep will struggle and I wish these blowhards would stop banginging the SJP drum. This team will consist of primarily juniors and sophs as starters!

  11. @ Jiveturkey
Hang in there brother, don’t let them get you down. This is what happens when your on top. We know, it’s been this way for all but one of the last 7 yrs. in our league. Wish you well, week 2 will be a firecracker!!

    @JS and phillyboy
Perhaps phillyboy, wouldn’t bet the house on it though, nor your NP prediction. JS, agree with your assessment. I would add that while Prep returns some excellent quality skill people, they also must rebuild virtually the entire line and linebacking corps. Johnson was the anchor, difficult if not impossible to replace. All 3 LB’s are gone, Jones was a stud and the others were fierce tacklers. Runyan has received a scholarship to Dad’s school, he will need to contribute more than he showed last year. Bottom line, despite the “stars”, the Prep grunts of last year will be hard to replace, that was a special group….and they still got beat when it counted most!!

  12. Think LaSalle will lose at least 4 games this year, very possibly 5. Between their schedule and the changing of the guard sometimes it happens like that, the fall is sudden and surprising. But they will have a winning season.

  13. Outside of Dave Williams there were two former WC players on IC last year. But both of those kids played for IC the year before. The year before Coach Crosby got there and trust me, but they weren’t recruited away from WC by the previous coaching staff.

IC did receive a very good LB from O’Hara, but again trust me he wasnt taken from O’Hara.

Their third RB was a sophomore who went to Judge as a freshman, but didn’t play there. He played weight ball instead. He lives in IC’s neighborhood.

Most of IC’s players were already on the roster on 2011. I’d venture to say 90% minimum. What Coach Crosby brought with him was so,eorganization and discipline. The talent was mostly already in place.

For the record, WC is a 1A school playing up. They had 152 boys on the books with the last piaa count.

It’s possible that this could be IC’s last year in 2A. They were only 14 boys away from 3A in last piaa count. Their basketball team is already 3A. Not positive this will happen, but it could, especially with Philly pub schools closing.

Oh yea, IC will be playing football this fall regardless with what happens with the Philly SD. They are a charter school and aren’t a part of that budget.

  14. Jiveturkey:

WC was a solid team las year, but young. They lost exactly one player, albeit their best player to Imhotep last year. Not half their team. Stop pulling things out your butt.

They were 7-4 last year. They lost a one-point game to GW (4A) in OT. They lost a competitive game to Wood (3a State finalist). They lost a two-point game to LaSalle (4A state semifinalist), and they beaten handily by Imhotep in D12 final. It was 12-8 at half, but due to youth and a hungry IC team the wheels fell off In the 2nd half.

WC would have smacked every 2A team in D11 last year. They would smack every D11 team this year, too. Make no mistake.

  15. The PCL always seems easy to figure out in the summer, and then they play the games and the surprises begin.
Sure, St. Joes Prep looks great this year. Reid and Zaccheaus are so skilled.
And LaSalle is going to be back with Heron, and a new stud qb Shurmur. LaSalle does need to reload at line (oline and dline). But their coaching is so strong, and they do have some serious linemen on this Fall’s roster. Some expereienced rising seniors (Gepert, Frusco, others), and talented rising juniors (Wagner, Grady). If they can get their kicking game in order after losing that senior from last year (Pitt?), they could make some noise this fall.
And everybody forgets about Roman, but they have some players this year. That’s been a building story. Scrappy team.
    Should be another fun season.

  16. Phillyboy, you need to soften up on the SJP is the bomb and LaSalle is going to struggle line. If anything LaSalle goes into the season in better shape then SJP.

The Prep had 3 returning Senior starters and on returning offensive linemen! The lost all of their starting LBs and have one returning defensive line men who will be a sophomore this year!

Everyone has the Prep as this power house this year but they are very young and inexperienced!

  17. @ Bert your right Abington has a very nice team coming back this year, but Berwick looks like the stronger team on paper this year.last year was a down year in the W.V.C this year i think that the L.F.C will be down a little.I am not a jump on the Curry band wagon guy but i can see on paper why Berwick is picked in AAA in D2
and i am with Ron Holy Remender as they say on the sport show COME ON MAN !

  18. @paul and OL Coach

I hope your right, we’ll see.
Coach Dom D’Addona might be the most important figure on the LS staff ‘THIS’ year. If he can formulate a functioning line with those grad loses and current relative inexperience, that would be impressive!! Looking back, same thing was said following graduation of the ’10 class. Line play is about turning boys into fanatics yet keeping one’s poise.

  19. @ Steve and O L Coach

La Salle lost alot on the OLine. From what I heard they will try the hurry up, no huddle route to take the pressure off. I’m sure Brett Gordon will figure something out The new QB seems to have the right makeup (6’3″ 220 lbs) and an arm to boot. (He’s a two sport guy with swimming being the second sport. Fits right in with the two time defending state champ swimming program) I can see where people will put La Salle as the underdog. But don’t be surprised if they make it 6 in a row and end up in the thick of it.

  20. @all

Nobody is saying NP will be a state power this year. Anybody that follows D1 knows this.
    I’m afraid they won’t make the playoffs….again.

From all the talk on this site, SJP can’t be touched. However, the LS/SJP game is always a toss-up. It’s the Alabama/Auburn of high school football.

  21. @teve, you may be half right.

Not sure who said NP will be a state power this season but they’re most likely off base.

LS has won 5 consecutive PCL championships; most years the talk is SJP will overtake them. Simply put, they never do.

Look for LS as the underdog to make it 6 straight!

  22. @philly boy

LaSalle’s run may end this year, you can obviously read the last 20-25 responses. However, the skill and the beef reside in this JR. class. If their down this year, won’t be for long!!
Re: North Penn…..I’m not hearing that at all, in fact just the opposite from my Lansdale boys. They’re not optimistic at all.
