You say it’s just a matter of time before the PA Catholic schools are at the same level as N Jersey. So your argument is that they should split public/private because in about 30 years they might be like N Jersey?? That’s brilliant. YOU DON’T FIX IT IF IT’S NOT BROKEN. Again, since 1988 public schools have won the AAAA title 19 out of 24 years.
To Josh Funk, the bottom line is there are two programs. Schools that pick the kids who live in their respective towns and schools that can get kids from their school district, surrounding districts or sometimes even farther away. I want to apologise for posting that Public school kids don’t move around their districts for athletic reasons and for posting that non public schools “soft” and “hard” recruit. What was I thinking? I guess this little whining little kid will also take back everything I said about Mark McGwire, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemons, Lance Armstrong… using steroids since their official governing bodies can’t produce hard evidence. Anytime you want names, I’ll send you 5 names of players from D11 and D2 who have moved around for non academic reasons over the past 3 years in any sport. The kids are kids,God bless them, they just want to play ball, so we don’t need to throw them under the bus. Who we need to out is the so called adults in the room. It’s always those folks who screw things up for power, money and or fame. Right Penn St? Did you know that 65% of College football programs have been put on probation for rules and ethics violations? 65%!!! While I’ll concede it is college, a good reporter can have a field day with HS’s all around the country who know how to navigate around the system. I don’t want to harp on this, my original posting was that the publics and non publics should play each other during the regular season and should be seperated for the playoffs. One more thing about and i’ll use “inviting kids” vs “recruiting” them to play for another school. When we find out about the kid or kids who were stars in HS and then if and only if they are lucky(ability at the next level, grades, maturity…) wash out before, during or after college. That’s what we should all be concerned with as fans and responsible adults. Putting playing sports with dreams of playing in the big time down the road in the forefront of a teenager becomes the kids problem and many times societies problem when it’s all over.
Jim,
Unless you have hard evidence (i.e. player names, school names, etc.) of any Pennsylvania catholic/private school as “out of control” as any/all of the private/catholic/parochial schools of New Jersey and Maryland, your claims of recruiting are pointless and meaningless and come off as nothing more than whining like a little kid. If you know of any specifics, cite player and school names to make your case. If you don’t, you are probably better off staying out of the subject altogether rather than hurling blind accusations which are probably unfounded.
Western Wayne plays Scranton Prep next and then Coughlin. We will see what they are really made of over the next two weeks.
Phillyboy, why split? Private AKA Catholic schools are supposed to be about a Catholic religious education that have sports teams right? So your pompous “facts” line shows you don’t get it. It’s almost the same as kids moving around Districts to play on better teams. Bosco, bergen Catholic, Joe’s… were where PA Cath Schools are now in the late 70’s early 80’s and now they are machines and big money making programs. It’s a matter of time before they keep moving to the next level and next level…
@ jim
Why do you want to see the public and private schools split for the playoffs? Is it possibly because you imagine that the privates have an unfair advantage? FYI the current AAAA state champion is a public school and since the state playoffs started in 1988 the publics have won 19 out of 24 years. I don’t mean to confuse you with the facts. Recruiting gives the private schools a fighting chance. Besides, the recruiting in PA is soft compared to NJ and MD where it’s out of control.
How can you say Siclari is the most dynamic kid in the LFC? They played a young LFC111 Susquhanna team. When he plays against D11 or ranked teams then we’ll see. Nothing against the kid.
to bobby, I agree and in the end coming out with a good education sets them up for the real game of life. I have no problem with Catholic school sports programs. I would like to see them split away during the playoffs though like they do in NJ

OL Patrick Hoffman will sign with Navy
OL/DL Spiteri getting good look from Temple
Winslow signed w/Pitt
Coleman would be getting looks but he is one of the top 5 players in the country in lacrosse
There are several underclassmen who will be getting looks in future years.
Hope Easton wins but have to take LaSalle 21-14
La Salle beats Easton by 2 touchdowns
What people don’t understand is that none of these kids from la salle that were “recruited” are going anywhere big to play college football. A couple of d3 schools is all. It’s a team of solid football players
Seen Easton and lasalle no comparison this year Easton much better very sold team. No studs on la salle maybe overrated
ROBBIE SICLARI WESTERN WAYNE
The most dynamic player is the LFC got off to a good start this saturday afternoon. Robbie had a few carries for 100 yds rusning 2 td’s.1 reception for 50 yds. He had a kick off return for a TD. Punt return for a TD. Then on defense he had 1 int 2 sacks and a ton of tackles. WOW thats all I could say.

Every time a private school has success all the public school people say the same thing – recruiting. North Penn has well over 100 kids come out for football every year, and that is an enormous advantage in such a demanding sport where depth is everything. Why do you think that PA has different classifications for schools based upon size? Its only silly because you don’t have an intelligent response.
To hooverville: Ohio state has 50,000 students and USC has 32,000. Who is ranked #1? It’s not the size of the student body. Do you really go down the tired road that kids just want to go to Catholci schools for the education? I would bet the farm thats not the case. Again Hooterville, they don’t overtly recruit but you will never accept that. Done with this silly argument.
Jim –
You forgot to add one more fact regarding the “catholic school crap”……the public schools are much larger than the catholic schools, often by a factor of 2-3. North Penn is easily 2-3 times larger than everyone they play. LaSalle’s graduating class last year was 246 kids, there are probably more students in 3rd period gym class then that at NP. Can you name me one player on LaSalle that was recruited?
Moving site to new server
You may have noticed the site timing out when you tried to get onto it Friday night. To better serve you are moving our sites to a better and faster server.
Starting Sunday afternoon you may experience the site(s) being down. They could be down for up to 72 hours. But once the move is done and everything is complete you will see an improvement.
We apologize for the inconvenience this might cause, and thanks for your patience!
They’re ba’aack…..St. Joe’s Prep that is. The Prep and Roman have a chance to take the PCL. I would love to see an undefeated Easton/Pennridge eastern final.
Not so fast having easton winning sub regional
Easton will not beat LaSalle, they are too big up front and have great skill players with explosive speed.
NP goes 1 and 2 out of the gate, wins a close one at pennridge. However, they do not make the eastern final.
Easton beats whoever comes out of the PCL, then plays in the eastern final, probably against D-town East.
Way too early for the above predictions, but what the hell, that’s what these blogs are all about.
I like North Penn. I really do. But this routine is starting to get played out. Some other district 1 team needs to step up.
Please stop the Catholic school crap already. Apples and Oranges against public Schools. They recruit and everyone knows it. Nothing wrong with that until they compete with public schools who pick the kids from their town.
In the state championship**
