2010 Montgomery County All-Star Football Classic

SOUDERTON – TELFORD ROTARY CLUB AND MAXWELL FOOTBALL CLUB ANNOUNCE THE 2010 MONTGOMERY COUNTYALL-STAR FOOTBALL CLASSIC

Souderton, PA – The Souderton–Telford Rotary Club (Rotary Club), with the support of the Maxwell Football Club, announced today that the Montgomery County All-Star Football Classic will be held on Monday, June 7^th at the new football stadium located at Souderton High School. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The All-Star Classic will include most of the top senior football players in Montgomery County and the game will be attended by fans and supporters from across the county.

The Montgomery County All-Star Classic has been played since 1968 and has featured thousands of outstanding high school players, many of whom have gone on to successful college football careers. The game has also featured Montgomery County players who have later played in the National Football League. This game is a unique community event which brings together many people, including Rotary Club members, MFC members, the players, the coaches, the parents and fans of high school football. This is the twenty-first consecutive year that the game has been operated by the Souderton-Telford Rotary Club. The proceeds from this game will provide financial support to the Children’s Tumor Foundation.

“The Souderton-Telford Rotary Club is privileged to operate the 43^rd Montgomery County All-Star Classic to support the Children’s Tumor Foundation. The game is a fantastic opportunity for the outstanding senior football players in the County to play in their final high school game with the support of many members of our community. The Rotary Club is particularly pleased to have the support of the Maxwell Football Club with this event,” said Rotary Club Game Chairman, Jim Church.

“The Maxwell Football Club is privileged to participate in supporting the All-Star Classic. The Maxwell Club has traditionally honored young men’s accomplishments on the gridiron and in the classrooms and supports those student-athletes who participate in the All-Star Classic,” said MFC Executive Director, Mark Wolpert. “We also recognize and support the many volunteers who graciously give their time and effort to support this game, including the coaches, officials and game committee staff.”

The head coach for the South squad is Joe Gro from Cheltenham High School. Coach Gro will be assisted by Tim Sorber (Abington), Bret Stover (Upper Dublin), Adam Beech (Upper Moreland), John Staudenmayer (Plymouth Whitemarsh), Paul Winter (Cheltenham), Joe Powell (Upper Merion), Marty Eckert (Upper Merion), Rick Leisy (Wissahickon), Dan Hugenbrunch (Upper Dublin) and Mike Santoro (Kennedy-Kendrick). The head coach for the North squad is George Parkinson of St. Pius X. Coach Parkinson will be assisted by Dan Kadunce and Jerry Rogers (St. Pius), Paul Fargo (Souderton), Jim Mich (Springford), Keith Leamer (Upper Perkiomen), E.J. Smith (Norristown), Rodchine Lusane (Norristown), Bruce Fleming (Norristown), Tom Paul (Upper Perkiomen) and Tim Connolly (Perkiomen Valley).

Tickets cost $5 per person and are available at the gate. This year’s All-Star Classic will feature Blair Thomas, a former NFL player and All-American running back at Penn State University, as the honorary game chairman. Halftime entertainment will include the Groveland Elementary Jump Rope Team. The following is the player roster for this year’s game:
