Wilson Ends Winless Drought With Convincing Win at Pen Argyl

Pen Argyl – October 2, 2015 was the last time that the Wilson Warriors last won a football game, a 21-20 win over Catasauqua. It’s been 15 games of futility, but that is over now thanks to an impressive and eye-opening victory at one of the toughest places for the opposition to win at, Pen Argyl. The Warriors made a statement with a convincing 43-8 win “Up On The Hill”.

Behind the running of standout Job Goodman, along with the play of his teammate Cameron Clark at quarterback and the defense playing lights out, they shut down one of the Colonial League’s top RB in Logan Sterner. Wilson hopes this win turns the corner and they become contenders for a title in the near future.

Goodman accounted for five touchdowns in the contest, three rushing and two on the receiving end of Clark’s passes. Clark scored a touchdown and threw for 149 yards. Goodman rushed for 169 yards and also had 118 yards via the passing game. Clark finished the afternoon 127 yard rushing and 140 passing in the victory.

Wilson scored on their opening drive with Clark, keeping on a read option, dashed in from 52 yards out on just the third play from scrimmage capping a 63 yard drive just a 1:10 into the contest. Kelly Snyder added to the lead in the second quarter connecting on a 36-yard field goal with 9:58 till half.

“We knew coming in that we had some good athletes coming into the season. It was great seeing Job and Cameron having such a great game,” Second year coach Chris Labatch stated.

Goodman hit pay dirt again as on a fourth and one from the Wilson 47 as he took a handoff left and broke free down the sidelines to give the Warriors a 17-0 lead. After a Pen Argyl punt, the Warriors took over on their own 34, on second down. Clark managed to escape several would be tacklers and lofted the ball down the middle. Goodman adjusted his route and made a catch outracing the defenders to the end zone extending the lead to 23-0 with 4:17 before halftime.

The Green Knights did manage to get inside the Warrior 20 on their ensuing drive, however a Clark interception return set his team up near midfield. One play later Clark connected with Goodman down the sidelines for another score and a 29-0 lead at the half.

Pen Argyl managed to get on the board on the opening drive of the third quarter completing a nine-play, 71 yard drive with Anderson Dear going in from three yards out and a 2 point conversion pass from Dear hit Conner Kupres.

“We have to work on our preparation. We made too many mistakes today. Our intensity level just wasn’t there,” Pen Argyl coach Paul Reduzzi stated.

Goodman closed out the scoring in the third quarter with runs of 47 and 20 yards and the mercy rule kicked in with 3:53 left in the the third quarter.

Pen Argyl will try to get on track as they travel to play Saucon Valley Friday night. Wilson will host Palisades on Saturday afternoon.
