EASTON – Easton scored on their first two possessions to lead the Red Rovers to a convincing 35-6 win over Phillipsburg in the 118th meeting between both teams at Fisher Stadium.

Leading the way was Cole Ordway who rushed for two touchdowns and had an interception.

Red Rovers won the toss and took the opening kickoff. Jayden Foreman took the kickoff and had a big return into Phillipsburg territory. After a Ordway touchdown run that was called back by a penalty, he ran for the first down on third down and 16 to Phillipsburg’s 29. Facing fourth down and two, Ordway finished the drive going 21 yards for the touchdown. Noah Borluca’s kick was good. With 8:23 left in the first quarter, it was Easton 7-0.

As good as the Red Rover offense looked early, their defense was just as strong in the first half. After a Phillipsburg punt, Easton took over on their nine. It took three plays for Easton to drive 91 yards for the score.

Ordway had a run of 40 yards and hit Andrew Biddle for the 47-yard pass down to the Phillipsburg three-yard line. Trevon Tyler finished the drive off with a three-yard touchdown run with 6:20 left in the quarter.

It was 14-0 Easton. Early in the second quarter, Phillipsburg’s defense finally got the stop they needed to get back in the game. But Easton’s defense returned the favor and got the stop. This forced Phillipsburg to punt from their end zone.

Sean Kilpatrick blocked that punt and Anthony Diaz fell on the ball in the end zone for a touchdown with 6:57 remaining in the first half.

Easton extended their lead, 21-0.

Both teams had the turnover bug late in the first half. Phillipsburg had a couple fumbles that were recovered by the Red Rovers’ Kurtis Crossman and Elijah Edwards.

The only bad thing Ordway did in the first half was throwing an interception to Michael Bracco.

Easton’s defense returned the favor on the last play of the half. Ordway got the interception and the Red Rovers took a 28-0 lead into halftime.

The only score in the third quarter was on Phillipsburg’s first series of the second half. It was Dom Bracco to his brother Mike Bracco for the 81-yard touchdown pass. The PAT failed and Easton led 28-6 with 10:14 left.

A fired up Phillipsburg defense got the big stop on Easton’s next possession. Easton went for a fourth down and two but Ziyahn Mcgurn came up with the big hit to stop Easton on fourth down.

But Easton’s defense got the stop and forced the punt on Phillipsburg next possession.

Then with 4:28 left, Ordway put the dagger into the Phillipsburg team on an eight-yard touchdown and the win for the Red Rovers.

  1. The final score was 35-6 but in the article it says that the Red Rovers won 28-0 which isn’t true. The headline and the box score are correct but that article is incorrect!
