Lackawanna football teams impress moving forward into state playoffs.

LIONS PRIDE
Lackawanna Trail District 2 “A” Champion (13-0) and ranked #2 in the State football rankings for class “A”

Overpowers Minersville the District 11 Class “A” Champion. On Lukas Gumble’s first four carries, he didn’t gain too many positive yards. Then he struck. With a burst and some power, he scored a touchdown on carry number 8.

From there, he couldn’t be stopped. Gumbel finished with 230 yards on 10 carries and scored four touchdowns with the Lions taking the victory 40-0

The Lions will have their toughest opponent yet when they travel to Scranton High School to play Steelton-Highspire a known state football Powerhouse.

Valley View vs Dallas

The Cougars accomplished a successful season under a brand new head coach, Scot Wasilchak came to an end against undefeated Dallas Mountaineers (13-0) for the District 2 AAAA Championship, with no shame to them the Cougars gave the Mountaineers one of their best games yet of the season, only losing a close one 21-18.

Dunmore vs Williams Valley

The Dunmore Bucks are no stranger to success in the state playoffs, having won the PIAA Class “A” Championship in 1989 and having been there another handful of times throughout the years. The Buck’s playoff success continued forward overpowering Williams Valley. Dunmore read all week about the impressive numbers Williams Valley’s Alex Allenbach put up this season.

The Bucks Pigga decided to put in some impressive numbers of his own. The seniors scored five touchdowns and rushed for 234 yards as the Bucks rolled past the Vikings, 41-21, in the PIAA Class 2A first-round game Friday night at Rotary Field.
