Rakowsky, Muldowney honorary captains for SCFCA all-star game

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN (Nov. 6) – North Schuylkill graduate Terry Rakowsky and Nativity graduate Eric Muldowney are the honorary captains for this year’s Schuylkill County Football Coaches Association All-Star Game, Wednesday, Nov. 26, 7 p.m., at Rotary Field, Schuylkill Haven.

Rakowsky, who graduated from North Schuylkill in 1978, is honorary captain for the North, and Muldowney, who graduated from Nativity in 1990, is honorary captain for the South. As was previously announced, first-year Panther Valley head coach Matt Davis will coach the North and Williams Valley head coach Tim Savage will coach the South.

At North Schuylkill, Rakowsky played quarterback, passing for more than 3,000 yards, and also played safety and did the punting and place kicking. He also played basketball, scoring 1,385 points, and in baseball was a pitcher and shortstop for the Spartans.

Rakowsky played at Penn State as a freshman, returning kickoffs and punts, and was moved from quarterback to wide receiver his sophomore season. He started at wide receiver and played on the special teams as a junior and senior for the Nittany Lions, graduating in 1982.

Since 1986 Rakowsky has operated a dental clinic in the Doylestown area and for the last 15 years as been varsity girls basketball coach at Central Bucks West. He and his wife Catherine have three children, Evelyn, who attends Boston College; Maggie, a sophomore and plays basketball at C.B. West; and T.J., a freshman linebacker and a catcher at C.B. West.

At Nativity, Muldowney played running back, wide receiver and safety in football and ran track for the Green Wave. His high school football career was highlighted by scoring touchdowns on two punt returns and a kickoff return in the 26-20 victory over Southern Columbia in the 1989 Eastern Conference semifinals, which is the longest high school game ever played in Pennsylvania, going into today’s current overtime rules after the teams played a scoreless fifth quarter of 12 minutes.

After a year at Milford Academy, Muldowney played wide receiver and kick returner at Lock Haven University, where he was ECAC Rookie of the Year as a freshman and earned Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference honors. He tied the NCAA record with a 99-yard touchdown reception and set a school record for the Bald Eagles with a 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Muldowney is an activity specialist for the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections. He and his wife Jenn live in Pottsville.

Rakowsky and Muldowney will take part in the pregame coin toss and also participate in the halftime ceremonies honoring the SCFCA Hall of Fame Class of 2014. Entering the HOF are Tom Bonner, Panther Valley; the late Barry Hackenberg, North Schuylkill; Kevin Keating, Pottsville; and the late Pat Droskinis, Cass Township.
