Q&A With Upper Perkiomen Head Football’s NEW Coach Dan Heinrichs

Written by: on Thursday, February 2nd, 2023. Follow David Mika on Twitter.

When did you officially become the new head football coach?

I officially became the head football coach at UP in early January. I believe the board approved date was January 12th, 2023.

Where did you go to school (high school and college)?

I attended Upper Perkiomen High School and graduated in 2013. I also attended Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA.

Did you play football (high school and college)?

I played High School Football at Upper Perk. Started for three years as a guard, and center, and in my senior year played middle linebacker and was awarded an all-conference honorable mention. I also played college football at Lycoming. I started as the strong side defensive end in my Junior and Senior years. I graduated from Lycoming in 2017.

What is your previous coaching background?

I began coaching as a volunteer right out of college at Montoursville Area High School. I then coached there through 2021 as the Defensive Line coach. We had a lot of success there under J.C. Keefer and won two out of four district championships we appeared in within that five year period of me coaching there. It was a great program and I learned a lot from a great coaching staff and school district. This past year (2022), I coached at Upper Perk as an assistant, helping Linebackers and Defensive Line. I was also the head JV coach.

Do you teach and if so, what subject do you teach?

I teach Academic Biology at Upper Perkiomen High School

What is your goal for this team?

My goal for this team is to start doing small things great so we can do the bigger things, like being good people off the field and a competitive team on Friday nights. My goal as the new head coach is to raise the bar for this program and get us on the right track to competing against anyone in our league and playing football at a higher level.

What are your thoughts about the league you will be playing in?

The PAC 10 is a different league than when I played. I got to be the second class ever to play in the senior bowl and I think our league does a phenomenal job of promoting players and teams. I look forward to playing in a league where a long line of hard-nosed football players has risen from and we look forward to the opportunity to hopefully rise to a greater level of success in the upcoming seasons.
