Offensive Player of the Week:
-Ahzir Nelson (LaSalle – Jr. – RB)
Nelson had his number called often and produced one of his biggest games of the year. With a workload that consisted of 28 carries he managed 129 yards and a touchdown for the Explorers. His change of pace helped the usually heavy-pass
LaSalle offense possess the ball and chew-up valuable time as the game wore on.
Offensive Honor Roll:
-Gavin Sidwar (LaSalle – Sr. – QB)- Passed 21-for-29 for 184 yards and two TDs.
-Owen Johnson (LaSalle – Soph. – WR)- Turned six of his catches into three TDs.
-Semaj Beals (Romann – Sr. – QB)- Passed 18-for-26 for 242 yards and 3 TDs.
-Ashdan Roberts (Roman – Sr. – WR)- Saw both of his receptions go for scores of 55 and 40 yards.
Defensive Player of the Week:
-Walter Hudson (Roman – Jr. – LB)
Hudson was very instrumental in the Cahillies holding Bishop McDevitt to just six points. He hustled for a game-high fourteen tackles. He blocked an extra-point and had an interception with a 39-yard return tacked on. Hudson has been a leader for the Roman defense all year long.
Defensive Honor Roll:
-Antwan Smith-Ray (Roman – Sr. DL)- Was active with 6 stops and a fumble recovery.
-Justus Gaskin (Roman – Sr. – DB)- Notched 8 tackles and added a pass defend.
-Chase Hinton (Roman – Jr. – DB)- Hinton made four stops, blocked a FG, and made an interception.
-Cooper Heilig (LaSalle – Sr. – LB)- Led the Explorers with six tackles.
-Aidan Christy (LaSalle – Soph. – DB)- Played a steady game with 5 stops and three pass defends.
Special Teams Player of the Week:
-Eyan Stead (Roman – Sr. WR/DB/KR)
Stead put forth a well-rounded effort in the Cahillites, 28-6, win over Bishop Mcdevitt in the 5A state final. He was impactful in all three phases of the game. On special teams, he had a return of 71 yards off a blocked field goal. He also punted three times for 25.7 yard average. Offensively, he made 9 catches for 112 yards and a TD. Defensively, he notched three tackles, had three pass defends, and forced a fumble.
Multi-Purpose Player of the Week:
-Joey O’Brien (LaSalle – Sr. – WR/DB)
The state’s best player put on a show in the Explorers, 34-20, win over Pittsburgh Central Catholic in the 6A final. Offensively, he snatched ten passes for 99 yards. He also tossed a touchdown pass covering two yards on a trick play. Defensively, he had three interceptions in the game’s final four minutes. The first one set-up a game-sealing score after a 51-yard return to the PCC 2-yard line. Later, he provided the final nail in the coffin with a 94-yard pick six. His three picks covered a total of 155 yards. He also added a tackle and one other pass defend.
