Philadelphia Catholic League Players of the Week (Week of August 31, 2025)

Offensive Player of the Week:

-Tyty Mattison (Carroll – WR – Jr.):

The speedy and shifty Mattison broke a PCL record with five receiving touchdowns in the Patriots, 54-8, thrashing of Delco Christian. He finished with 7 catches for 183 yards. The yardage output was a school record.

 

Offensive Honor Roll:

Gavin Sidwar (LaSalle – QB – Jr.)- 14/18/222/3 TDs.

-Amahi Gowans (O’Hara – RB – Sr.)- 33 rushes, 194 yards, and 3 TDs.

-Chris Sponburgh (Carroll – QB – Jr.)- 10-for-13, 179 yards, and 5 TDs.

-Semaj Beals (Roman – QB – Sr.)- 16/22/336/6 TDs.

-Ashdan Roberts (Roman – WR – Sr.)- 5 Rec., 107 yards, & 3 TDs.

-Aubrey Kimbrough (Con.-Egan – QB – Jr.)- 8/10/178/2 TDs.

-Abu Fofana (Con.-Egan – WR/KR – Sr.)- 84-yard KO return, 78-yard TD rec.

Defensive Player of the Week:

-Sabir Dawson (Roman – DB – Soph.):

Dawson made a sensational play in Roman’s track meet win versus Cardinal Newman (FL). While making a tackle he stripped and secured a fumble, returning it 51 yards for a TD. He also added an interception and made 4 tackles (TFL) in a great all-round effort.

Defensive Honor Roll:

-Jacob Cairy (Neum.-Gor. – DL – Jr.)- 4 total tackles, 2 sacks and TFL.

-CJ Amobi (Bonner-Pren. – DE – Sr.)- 18-yard INT return for TD.

-Robert Gormley (Judge – S – Jr.)- Two picks and 4 total tackles.

-Keenan Stahl (LaSalle – DE/LB – Sr.)-Ten total tackles; sack and TFL.

-Tristan Laing (O’Hara – DT – Sr.)- Three sacks.

Co-Special Teams Player of the Week:

Jimmy Mahoney (LaSalle – KR – Sr.) & Owen Johnson (LaSalle – KR – Soph.)

This Explorers duo each returned a kickoff for a touchdown and a combined for 278 yards on 5 total returns. Mahoney’s went for 96 yards, while Johnson unleashed a 99-yard jaunt.

Multi-Purpose Player of the Week:

-Joey O’Brien (LaSalle – WR/S – Sr.)

The state’s #1 player showed why he holds that distinction in an exciting and entertaining win over a very good Malvern club. O’Brien made 5 catches for 123 yards, with three going for scores. On the side of the ball, he notched ten tackles (9 solo).

 

Spectacular in Defeat:

-Trey Smith (Arch. Wood – WR – Sr.)

Smith recorded his second consecutive impressive performance in the Vikings’, 28-20, defeat to O’Hara. Smith recorded 6 catches for 151 yards and two scores (76 & 30 yards).
