Philadelphia Catholic League Players of the Week Week 1 – Sept. 4, 2019

Offensive Player of the Week

-Samuel Brown – LaSalle – RB/WR – Sophomore

Brown was sensational in the Explorers’, 42-6, dismantling of usual District-1 power North Penn. The well-rounded Brown scored his team’s first five touchdowns. All total, he accumulated 225 yards from scrimmage (8 receptions for 165 yards) in less than three quarters of action. Brown’s paydirt visits included runs of 1 and 4 yards, while he caught scoring passes of 67, 9, and 30 yards.

Defensive Player of the Week

-Chris Sheffer – O’Hara – LB – Junior

Sheffer was solid throughout, but his most impactful moment came with 1:32 left in the game and Hudson Catholic banging on the door at the Lions’ 3-yard line. With a slim 4-point lead in his team’s pocket, Sheffer shot through the line and blasted the ballcarrier just as he was about receive the handoff. A teammate recovered and the Lions earned a hard-fought road win. Sheffer ended with ten tackles (7 solos), including four that went for losses.

Special Teams Player of the Week

-Brendan Menges – Lansdale – K/P – Senior

In the Crusaders, 41-20, defeat to Penn Charter at the shore, Menges earned his keep with a solid all-around outing. He blasted a pair of field goals (37 & 29 yards) and both of his PAT attempts. One kickoff went for a touchback, while he punted three times for a 34.0 average, including a long of 46 yards
