teamPAHERSHEY – With lightning and thunder in the area, South Fayette’s Quarterback Brett Brumbaugh led TeamPA in the rain-shortened game, completing 5 of 7 passes for 219 yards and three touchdowns.

Hersheypark Stadium has always been good to Brumbaugh.

The Duquesne recruit won back-to-back PIAA Class AA titles at Hersheypark Stadium and now he can add a 20-3 win over Maryland in the 58th Annual Big 33 Football Classic.

The last time the Big 33 was cut short at halftime by weather was in 1988, when Pennsylvania beat Maryland, 21-13.

On the game’s first play, Brumbaugh hit Harrisburg’s Amechie Walker for the 63-yard touchdown pass. The PAT was no good and TeamPA led 6-0.

On the first play of the second quarter, Sean Bowling kicked a 23-yard field goal.

Pennsylvania’s defense clamped down and missed opportunities hurt Maryland in the second quarter.

Brumbaugh found Arthur Thompson for the 23-yard touchdown pass and TeamPA led over TeamMD 13-3 with 5:14 remaining in the first half.

The play of the game was a flea-flicker for the final score of the game. Brumbaugh found a wide-open D.J. Moore for the 86-yard touchdown pass.

With the rain picking up, the Big 33 called the game at halftime.

Note: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Brad Everett tweeted, “Brett Brumbaugh, by the way, finishes high school career with his 33rd win in a row …. in the Big 33 game. #WPIAL”
