Downingtown West’s Will Howard Wins Maxwell Football Club PA Player Of The Year Award

DREXEL HILL – Mark Dianno, of the Maxwell Football Club, announced Thursday night that Will Howard, a senior from Downingtown West, was recognized as the Maxwell Football Club Pennsylvania Player of the Year.

This took place at the Club’s 34th Annual Awards Dinner at Drexelbrook Country Club in Drexel Hill. In addition, the Maxwell Football Club honored 63 finalists with Mini-Max trophies.

The Mini-Max is awarded to the region’s top senior football players. The region is made up of players from District 1, 3, 11, 12 and Independent schools.

Howard is a 6-foot-4, 215-pound senior Quarterback for Downingtown West who will continue playing football on a full scholarship to Kansas State. He plans to enroll at Kansas State in January. 

On offense he completed 151 of 238 passes for 2,543 yards and 27 touchdowns. He rushed for 272 yards and 12 touchdowns. 

He helped lead the Whippets to a 13-2 record in 2019. 

He was the All-Southeastern PA Player of the Year, 1st Team Class 6A All-EasternPAFootball.com, 1st Team Class 6A All-State and All-Southeastern Pennsylvania selection.

“Will is not only a great quarterback, he is a great student, a great teammate and possibly the best athlete in our school”, said head football coach Mike Milano. “He is a coach on the field, a true field general.”

Off the field, Will carries a 4.34 GPA at Downingtown WEST and scored 1,380 on his SAT’s. As for community service, Will spends time helping kids at summer basketball camp, an elementary school reading program and St. Elizabeth Church’s Stewardship program.

The Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware Players of the Year will be the candidates for the Club’s Jim Henry Award as the Outstanding Player in the region.

The winner of the Jim Henry Award will be announced as part of the Maxwell Football Club’s National Awards Gala which will be held in March 6, 2020 at the Tropicana Casino Resort in Atlantic City, NJ. The Maxwell Football Club will also present its collegiate and professional awards at this event.
