Morrisville Looks to Build on District Final Appearance in 2026
Morrisville enters the 2026 season with momentum from one of its strongest recent campaigns and a roster that still features several key building blocks.
The Bulldogs finished 7-6 last fall, reached the District 1/12 Class 1A championship game and closed the regular season with wins in five of their final seven contests before falling to Belmont Charter in the regional final.
Head coach Corey Keen now faces the challenge of replacing a large senior class while also taking over the defensive play-calling duties.
Morrisville lost several important contributors, including Alex Brown, Jovan Rivera, Shakur Dismukes, Javi Robledo, Zayden Gomez, Gavin Zelonka, Dmere Hall and Sean Eddings.
Still, the Bulldogs return their starting quarterback, leading running back, an experienced center and five defensive starters.
That gives Morrisville a solid foundation as it looks to remain one of the top Class 1A programs in District 1.
Strong Finish Highlighted 2025 Season
Morrisville opened last season with victories over Samuel S. Fels and Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech before battling through a difficult middle portion of the schedule.
The Bulldogs earned additional wins over Montrose, New Hope-Solebury and Jenkintown before closing the regular season with a dominant 47-13 victory over Renaissance Academy Charter.
Morrisville then defeated Jenkintown, 42-8, in the District 1/12 Class 1A Regional before falling to Belmont Charter, 19-0, in the championship game.
The season ended with the annual Thanksgiving Day rivalry against Bristol, but the playoff run gave the returning players valuable experience.
Now the Bulldogs want to turn that experience into another postseason push.
Johnson Returns at Quarterback
Senior Merik Johnson gives Morrisville stability at quarterback.
Johnson returns as one of only four offensive starters, making his experience especially valuable.
The coaching staff wants him to take another step as a passer in 2026.
“We are looking for Merik Johnson to take the next step as a passer and throw the ball more effectively than last season,” Keen said.
For that to happen, the offensive line must give him more time.
Johnson already understands the offense and has experience handling varsity pressure. The next stage of his development will be making quicker decisions, improving consistency and creating more balance between the run and pass.
Caraway Will Be Featured Early and Often
Senior running back I’zire Caraway returns as the other major offensive centerpiece.
The Bulldogs plan to involve both Johnson and Caraway heavily from the opening week.
Caraway’s experience gives Morrisville a dependable option in the backfield while younger players develop around him.
His ability to run physically and contribute in multiple situations should help ease the pressure on Johnson.
Morrisville wants to tailor its offense around the strengths of its returning playmakers rather than force players into roles that do not fit.
Offensive Line Must Develop Quickly
Senior center Ronan Dingle returns to anchor the offensive front.
Sophomore Omavi Franklin also returns after gaining valuable varsity experience.
The Bulldogs must fill several other spots along the line, making development up front one of the biggest keys to the season.
Improved pass protection would allow Johnson to push the ball downfield more often.
The line must also create enough consistency in the running game to keep Morrisville out of obvious passing situations.
For a team returning only four offensive starters, chemistry up front will be critical.
Playmakers Must Emerge on the Outside
The Bulldogs believe they have athletic ability at the receiver positions, even though several experienced players graduated.
The challenge will be identifying which younger players can become dependable varsity contributors.
Morrisville needs receivers who can create separation, catch the football consistently and block on the perimeter.
If that group develops, Johnson should have more opportunities to attack defenses through the air.
The offense does not need to become pass-heavy, but it does need to become more balanced.
Offense Will Adapt to Personnel
The coaching staff wants flexibility to be one of the offense’s strengths.
“Our goal is to adapt our offensive scheme to the strengths of our players and put them in the best possible positions to succeed,” Keen said.
That approach could allow Morrisville to change its identity from week to week depending on matchups.
The Bulldogs have proven veterans at quarterback and running back. The question is how quickly the supporting cast comes together.
Defense Begins New Era Under Keen
Morrisville’s defense played at a high level during much of the 2025 season, but the Bulldogs lost several senior starters and their defensive coordinator.
Keen will now handle the defensive play-calling.
Five starters return, giving the Bulldogs enough experience to build around.
The defensive philosophy will emphasize five areas: alignment, assignment, communication, contact and effort.
Those principles will be especially important with new players stepping into larger roles.
Caraway and Dingle Lead Linebackers
Caraway and Dingle both return at linebacker and will be expected to provide leadership in the middle of the defense.
Their experience should help Morrisville remain disciplined against the run.
They will also be responsible for helping younger defenders understand the new adjustments and communication responsibilities.
The linebackers could become one of the team’s strongest position groups if the surrounding pieces develop.
Hennessy Watt Gives Defense Edge Presence
Junior Julien Hennessy Watt returns at defensive end.
His experience gives Morrisville a proven player on the edge and an important piece in the front seven.
The Bulldogs will need him to set the edge, pressure quarterbacks and help replace the production lost through graduation.
A strong defensive front would make life easier for the linebackers and secondary.
Secondary Has Experience
Johnson also returns in the secondary at cornerback and safety.
Junior Drevon Scott is another returning defensive back.
That experience should help stabilize the back end while the defense adjusts to new personnel.
Morrisville will need the secondary to communicate well and limit explosive plays, especially against a schedule that includes several larger classification opponents.
Defensive Identity Will Be Built on Effort
Keen’s message is simple.
The Bulldogs must line up correctly, understand assignments, communicate, embrace contact and play with maximum effort.
That approach can help a young defense overcome inexperience.
If Morrisville consistently tackles well and avoids mental mistakes, the unit should remain competitive.
Sprague Provides Special Teams Stability
Junior Gabe Sprague returns as the starting kicker.
That gives Morrisville continuity in a phase where many teams are searching for answers.
The Bulldogs expect Sprague to build on last season and become an even more dependable weapon.
A reliable kicker can make a significant difference in close games, especially at the Class 1A level.
Challenging Schedule Will Test Bulldogs
Morrisville opens the season with road games against Samuel S. Fels and KIPP-DuBois before facing Academy of the New Church and Boys Latin Charter.
The Bulldogs will also see Delaware County Christian, New Hope-Solebury, Lower Moreland, Jenkintown and Renaissance Academy before the annual Thanksgiving Day game against Bristol.
That schedule provides a mix of size, speed and different offensive styles.
The early nonleague games should reveal how quickly the new starters have adjusted.

My thoughts on Morrisville
Morrisville enters 2026 with a much younger roster but enough returning experience to remain competitive.
The Bulldogs have the most important offensive positions settled with Johnson at quarterback and Caraway at running back.
The development of the offensive line and receiving corps will determine how much the offense improves.
Defensively, Keen takes over a unit replacing several experienced seniors, but five starters return and the Bulldogs have proven players at linebacker, defensive end and in the secondary.
The biggest goals will be consistency, communication and effort.
Morrisville proved last season that it can compete for a District 1/12 Class 1A championship.
If the young players develop quickly, Johnson improves as a passer and the defense adjusts smoothly to Keen’s system, the Bulldogs have a strong opportunity to make another postseason run in 2026.

2026 Offensive Outlook: We enter 2026 with a talented group ready to take the next step but a lot of work needs to be done. While we return just four offensive starters, we bring back our starting quarterback and running back, two smart and experienced players we plan to get involved early and often. We also have plenty of playmaking ability on the outside. We are looking for Merik Johnson to take the next step as a passer and throw the ball more effectively than last season and give him more time to throw. Our goal is to adapt our offensive scheme to the strengths of our players and put them in the best possible positions to succeed.
2026 Defensive Outlook: After a highly successful 2025 season Defensively, not only did we lose a lot of Seniors we also lost our Defensive. Corey Keen “Head Coach” will be calling the defense that brings back 5 starters from last year. The goal is simple this season Alignment Assignment Communication Embrace contact and Effort. Excited for the opportunity with this group.
2026 Special Teams Outlook: We return our starting kicker and we look for him to have a successful year.
