manheim_centralThe Barons put up huge numbers last Friday night in a 56-31 win over Lampeter-Strasburg. With the win Manheim Central moves to 7-0 and their program gets win number 500.

The Barons racked up 522 total yards of offense and were led by running back Marc Royer’s 230-yard performance.

The Barons all-time record is now 500-200-18. They started playing football in 1947.

“I think this is special. We only started playing football in 1947 and to win 500 games this fast is pretty special. Our community, like Berwick and others love their football and always support our program. This win isn’t just about our team this year. It’s about all the teams that have played before us.” said head football coach Mike Williams.

What are you doing to celebrate win number 500? “We play Conestoga Valley home in a couple of weeks and we are going to have a fireworks display that night on Senior night. We are inviting past players to come out that night and we are having a gathering  for the Seniors in the cafeteria and we may extend that to the past players.”

Head Coach Mike Williams has been on the sidelines for most of the 500 wins. His overall record is 334-70-3. “When you have coached for 33 years, you have coached dads and uncles of some of these current players on your team.”

So far this season Manheim Central is averaging 334.9 rushing yards per game and 105.6 passing yards per game. “Our offense is really clicking and we are scoring a lot of points.”

Leading the ground game is Junior Running Back Marc Royer. He has rushed for 1,159 yards on 104 carries and 11 touchdowns. “We are running the ball well and Marc is having a big year for us.”

“Our defense has played well up until this game. We gave up a lot of yards in this game. But we have a complete team, our special teams are doing good and our kicking game.”
