Halifax vs Steelton

Although the outcome of tonight’s game was unlike the predicted 14-12 for the Halifax Football team, it was an impressive display of talent and diligence.  Coming out of a disappointing season last year (3-7), this team is starting a new chapter.  Tonight, at Steelton, Halifax proved that they have skill and they’re determined to prove themselves a dangerous opponent this season.

From the first punt, the game seemed unpredictable as both sides grappled for the upper hand.  The Halifax crowd, earning their title as “wildcats”, exploded when their team intercepted the ball within the first two minutes.  This created a strong momentum which carried to a touchdown for the away team.   The remainder of the first quarter was marked by turnovers which hurt the team greatly.  Their only other points were scored in the second quarter through a safety.

Steelton inched their way forward between the second and third quarters, refusing to let go so easily.   Defensively they were well rehearsed and took advantage of even the minor mistakes made by Halifax.  Soon they were sitting comfortably four points ahead with a score of 8-12.

The possession changed constantly with multiple turnovers and four fumbles.  Halifax suffered greatly in the third quarter when a key player, senior Cody Enders, was injured.  Defensively Enders had six tackles in addition to 40 rushing and 70 passing yards offensively.  With this loss, Halifax continued to give the Rollers a run for their money.  A Halifax fumble within ten feet of victory, with only 10 seconds left in the game, allowed Steelton to finally celebrated their victory.

Halifax can barely be disappointed by their achievement this evening.  Some crucial players made themselves known, including senior Mitchell Nebrosky who made two interceptions and junior quarterback Robby Moretz, with nine tackles and an interception.  Additional players have also materialized as significant threats, allowing Halifax to mature, with their potential strengthening.  Halifax can be anticipated to be unpredictable this season.
