Getting Down to Business

The 2014 high school football season has passed its midpoint. The top teams are not only concerned with playoff points but league championships are on the line as well. Pennsbury, Coatesville, Council Rock North, Quakertown and West Chester Rustin fill out the favored five at AAAA playoff hunt. However West Chester Henderson, Central Bucks South and Upper Dublin are just a few points off the pace.

The AAA level has the undefeated Springfield Cougars with Bishop Shanahan, Great Valley, Upper Moreland, Pottsgrove and Academy Park in good position at this point in the season.

The last eight years the prognostication record stands at 381-165 while going 17-8 for this season. Coatesville, Springfield (Delco) and Pennridge all won as predicted with Central Buck South’s win over Abington and LaSalle’s win over Archbishop Wood as the failed picks. Only top competitive games have been chosen for this fearless forecast.

It is now time for the predictions for this week’s contests. Early weather forecasts indicate possible rain for Friday night and early Saturday morning. One challenging contest this Friday involves the undefeated Pennsbury Falcons. The Falcons host Suburban One League National Conference rival Pennridge. The Rams have only one loss this season to North Penn and are just 23 points behind Pennsbury in the playoff race. The Falcons exploded for a 56-0 win over Bensalem last Thursday night. Pennsbury was successful through the air and on the ground with QB Mike Alley threw for over 100 yards and running backs Charles Snorweah and Victor Delgado combined for 172 yards plus four TD’s on a fun night for the Falcon offense. The Rams had a much more competitive contest with the Abington Ghosts last weekend. Running back Joe Unangst may have been the difference with 264 yards and 5 TD’s in the 35-22 victory. Count on a tough game with the Falcon defense slowing down the Ram running attack just enough for a slim win. This contest can be seen on live streaming video Saturday night at 7 PM http://new.livestream.com/accounts/1274087.

Pennsbury  34  Pennridge  28

The next game to consider is the yearly showdown in a District Twelve between LaSalle and St Joseph Prep at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School . Both teams face a national schedule and vie for the AAAA State championship most seasons. The Explorers won a come from behind win over a very talented Archbishop Wood squad last Friday night. The Hawks defeated Malvern last week 49-28 but had lost three straight games to national powers Don Bosco Prep (NJ), St. Ignatius (OH) and St Joseph’s (NJ) prior that win last Friday. This game is always a tough pick but LaSalle looks like the winner. This contest can be seen on live streaming video Friday night at 7:25 PM http://portal.stretchinternet.com/sfbn/#

The rest of the fearless forecast:

West Chester Henderson  27  West Chester East  17

Quakertown  28  Central Bucks West  13
