DISTRICT 11 NOTES (week 9):
RUNNINGBACKS:
Chase Kessler of Northampton rushed for a school record 317 yards and 3 td’s in their win over Nazareth. Kessler is the first sophomore at Northampton to go over 1,000 yards in a season and now has 1,233 yards. Kevin Kowalishen held the old record when he rushed for 264 yards vs Liberty in 2006. Luke Miller of North Schuylkill rushed for 286 yards and 3 td’s in their win over Lehighton to go over 2,000 yards on the season. Miller set the new school record for career rushing yards with 3,302 yards. Josh Chowansky held the old record when he rushed for 3,257 yards from 2018-21. Colton Reber of Schuylkill Haven scored 4 more times in their win over Nativity to up his District leading total to 30 td’s. Marquez Wimberly of Nazareth now has 60 career td’s and is tied with Mike Tracy of Marian Catholic (1978-80) for 39th place all-time in the District. Wimberly leads the EPC 18 with his 1,342 yards this season. Sean Steckert of Southern Lehigh scored 2 more td’s in their win over Saucon Valley to move his career total to 69. He’s tied with Artie Owens of Stroudsburg (1969-71), and Jim Dudash of Mahanoy Area (1996-99) for 17th place all-time in the District. Besides Kessler, 2 more backs, also sophomores, went over 1,000 yards for the season. Christian Stiehler of Pocono Mountain West now has 1,145 yards and Fletcher Thompson of Williams Valley has rushed for 1,069 yards this season. QB Cole Ordway of Easton went over 2,000 yards rushing for his career and also scored his 30th career td last week in their win over Freedom. Rory Dixon of Marian Catholic (3,152 yards) and Dante Carr of Minersville (3,022 yards) both went over 3,000 yards rushing for their careers. Carr has now thrown for over 5,000 yards (5,547) and rushed for over 3,000 yards. He currently has thrown 74 td passes and scored 49 td’s. Kessler and Ivan Laubach reached the 1,000 yard career rushing mark and were added to the chart. I added up Brody Breiner of Panther Valley 4 years of stats and he also joins the chart a little late with his 1,496 rushing yards.
QUARTERBACKS:
Colton Sams of Southern Lehigh went 13 for 14 for 266 yards and 4 td’s in their win over Saucon Valley. Sams went over 5,000 yards passing for his career (5,181), and has thrown a new school record 63 td passes. Logan Edmond held the old record when he threw 61 td’s from 2016-18. Matt Bodnar of Notre Dame threw for 254 yards and 4 td’s in their win over Palmerton. Bodnar went over 2,000 yards on the season (2,086) to take the District lead. He’s tied for the District lead for td passes with 28 and has thrown 70 career td passes which ties him for 13th place all-time in the District with Doug Erney of Liberty. Erney threw 70 td’s for the Hurricanes from 2012-15. Antonio Fontanez of Liberty is tied with Bodnar for td passes this season with 28. He’s also 30 yards behind Bodnar with 2,056 yards passing. Fontanez hit the 60 td pass total which ties him with Dan Kendra III of Bethlehem Catholic (1991-94), and Travis Stefanik of Nazareth (2014-16) for 26th place all-time in the District. More on Carr from Minersville. Carr’s 74 career td passes ties him with AJ Long of Pius X and Zack Bradley of Catasauqua (2011-13) for 8th place all-time in the District. Shane Leh of Northwestern (65 td passes) is in 18th place all-time by himself and Brady Shomper of Williams Valley (61 td passes) is in 24th place all-time tied with aforementioned Edmond. Shomper and Caden Mengel of North Schuylkill both went over 1,000 yards on the season and 4,000 yards for their careers. Shomper is at 1,048 / 4,045 yards and Mengel is at 1,046 / 4,108 yards. Andrew Allen of Pottsville also went over 1,000 yards for the season in week 9 (1,063). Julian Pagan of Allen had his third 200 yard game when he threw for 247 yards vs Emmaus and he also hit the 1,000 yard mark (1,023). Jack Trickel of Palisades threw for 216 yards and 4 td’s in their win over Wilson. Trickel has thrown 33 career td passes which is a new school record. Ethan Brader held the old record when he threw 31 td’s from 2015-18. Brody Breiner of Panther Valley threw for 248 yards in their win over Mahanoy Area to put him over 2,000 yards for his career (2,189). Mason Soos of Pen Argyl had his first 200 yard game when he threw for 233 yards and 2 td’s in their win over Catasauqua.
RECEIVERS:
Freshman Thomas Cahill of Saucon Valley caught 11 passes for 179 yards and 3 td’s in their loss to Southern Lehigh. Cahill has caught 60 passes this season for 862 yards and 8 td’s. His 60 catches ties the District freshman record held by Jahan Dotson of Nazareth (2014). His yardage is now the highest total for a freshman in District 11. Carter Vassa of Bethlehem Catholic held the record with 792 yards that he had in 2023. Cahill’s 8 td’s is 1 shy of both Dotson and Vassa’s District 11 freshman record. Vassa moves up a spot into 21th place all-time for career reception yardage in the District (2,165). He moved ahead of Justin Yescavage of Jim Thorpe. His 131 career catches earns him a spot in the top 25 and is in 25th place all-time. Talon Dogmantis of Whitehall cracks the top 30 all-time in the District for career reception yardage and slots himself in 29th with his 2,106 yards. His 123 catches has him in a 3 way tie for 35th place with David Horton of Central Catholic (2003-04), and Xzavier Pusateri of ES South (2022-24). Paiten Lapoint of Minersville has 11 td grabs on the season which is now a new school record breaking the tie with Gabe Davis (2019), and Jason Cullen (2021). Lincoln Cook of Palisades also broke the tie with Ron Gelegonya for catches in a season. Cook now holds the record with 58 catches. Cook also broke the career reception yardage record with his 1,622 yards. Brad Patterson held the record when he totaled 1,581 yards from 2003-06. Jake Puksyzn of Liberty caught his 13th td pass last week to set a new school record. He broke the tie with Jarrod West who caught 12 td passes in 2009. Puksyzn also broke the career reception record with his 128 catches. KJ Williams held the record when he caught 125 passes from 2010-13. Mason Bollinger of Northwestern also broke a tie with Cam Richardson for career receptions. Bollinger joins the “100 catch” club and sets a new school record with his 101 career catches. Brady Behr of Pocono Mountain West grabbed his 14th career td catch to break the tie with Chris Monaco (2014-16) and Khalili Edwards (2016-17) and set a new school record. Manny Bolmer of Catasauqua went over 1,000 yards receiving for his career (1,029). Four more players joined the chart this week. Gavin Yurichek of Panther Valley (544 yards), Michael Lagowy of Northwestern (515 yards), CJ Diaz of Notre Dame (508 yards), and Niko Castillo of Schuylkill Haven (503 yards).
