Cole Ordway of Easton rushed for 197 yards and 4 td’s in their win over Erasmus Hall of New York. Ordway has rushed for 528 yards, scored 9 td’s, thrown for 222 yards and 4 td passes in the first 3 games. Reese Miller of Blue Mountain only had 4 rushing attempts for 25 yards in their first win of the year (Jim Thorpe), but scored a touchdown on all 4 attempts. Jerek Cooper of Emmaus (1,069 yards) and Niko Castillo of Schuylkill Haven (1,019 yards) both earned a spot on the chart with both players going over 1,000 yards rushing for their careers. Amari Green of Pocono Mountain East rushed for 204 yards and 2 td’s in their win over Scranton. Green also had 2 interceptions in the game.

QUARTERBACKS:

Antonio Fontanez of Liberty threw for 317 yards and 6 td’s in their win over Stroudsburg. His yardage is the 5th highest all-time at Liberty and his 6 td psses is a new school record. Doug Erney threw 5 td passes in a 48-21 win over Nazareth in 2014. Erney threw for 354 yards in that game and also holds the school record when he threw for 358 yards in a 38-14 win over Northampton in 2014. Jack Trickel of Palisades threw for a school record 361 yards and 4 td’s in their win over Catasauqua. Kevin Burke had 3-300 yard passing games in 1975 for head coach Mike “Air” Boushell. Burke’s highest total was the 337 yards he threw in a loss to Nazareth in which he also set the school record of 4 td passes in a game. Trinkel tied it 50 years later. Burke still holds all the school records for a single season when he completed 137 passes in 290 attempts for 2,363 yards and 21 td passes. Peyton Falzone of Nazareth threw for 274 yards and 3 td’s in their win over Wilson West Lawn. Falzone leads the District with 833 passing yards. He also went over 50 career td passes (51). Matt Bodnar of Notre Dame threw for 233 yards and 2 td’s in their win over North Schuylkill. Bodnar went over 5,000 yards passing in his career (5,109) and went over 50 td passes (51). Two other QB’s went over 50 career td passes in week 3. Shane Leh of Northwestern (52), and Brady Shomper of Williams Valley (51). Leading them all is Dante Carr of Minersville who has 59 career td passes after throwing for 4 td’s in their win over Mahanoy Area. Tanner Dogmantis of Whitehall went over 2,000 yards passing for his career (2,077) in their win over ES South. Brody Breiner of Panther Valley threw for 235 yards and a td in their loss to Marian Catholic. Cayden Vassa of Bethlehem Catholic threw for 203 yards and 2 td passes while also scoring 2 td’s in their 48-41 win over Berks Catholic. Patrick Cahill of Central Catholic threw for 216 yards and 3 td’s in their loss to Freedom.

RECEIVERS:

Jake Pukszyn of Liberty caught 6 passes for 159 yards and 5 td’s vs Stroudsburg. The 5 td’s is a school record and ties the District record. Joe Donaher held the old school record when he caught 4 td passes against Neshaminy in 1967. Donaher had a big year in ’67 when he caught 36 passes for 860 yards (23.9 ypc) with 11 of them going for td’s. The District record of 5 td’s in a game was initially set by Rob Harper of Notre Dame in 1981 vs Pocono Mountain. Kevin Gulyas of Central Catholic was next with his 5 td’s in a playoff game vs Valley View in 2011. John Murphy of ES South was the last one in 2016 vs Allen. Lincoln Cook of Palisades caught 9 passes for 269 yards and 3 td’s vs Catasauqua. The 9 catches ties the school record that Ron Gelegonya set in a game in 1990. Blake Cassalia tied the record in 2014 vs Notre Dame. Cook’s yardage is a new school record breaking the old record of 238 yards All-Stater Jim Kacergis had vs Nazareth in 1975. Kacergis holds the school record of 4 td receptions in a game when he caught all 4 of Burke’s td passes vs Nazareth. Kacergis a 6’3″ tight end caught 43 passes in the 75 season for school records of 1,054 yards and 14 td’s. Gelegonya still holds the school record for single season receptions with his 54 he caught in the 1990 season. He also holds the District 11 distinct honor of catching the most passes in a season (54) without catching a td pass. He netted 808 yards on those 54 catches. Cook, just a junior, went over 1,000 yards receiving for his career (1,089). Palisades has 3 former players whose career reception yardage is within 57 yards of each other in the 1,500+ yardage range. Brad Patterson holds the school record with his 1,581 yards he had from 2003-06. Gelegonya is in 2nd with his 1,532 yards from 1987-90. And Kacergis is in 3rd place with 1,524 yards he totaled from 1974-75. Carter Vassa of Bethlehem Catholic joins the “100 catch” club with his 103 career catches. Teammate Rodney Brodie went over 1,000 yards receiving for his career (1,016). Nassim Adams of Parkland joins the chart with his 565 career receiving yards. Talon Dogmantis of Whitehall caught 3 td passes from his brother Tanner in week 3 vs ES South. The 3 td’s ties the school record held by several players.

TIDBITS:

I was able to bring together all my records of the 300 yard rushers in District 11 over the years and I found that it’s been done 115 times. Here’s some info on them with more to come as time permits.

1st recorded 300 yard rushers (1st 6):

Gil Strunk of Pen Argyl vs Bangor in 1934 (302 yards on 53 carries and 5 td’s scored) won 33-13

Maurice Schleicher of Slatington (NL) vs Lehighton in 1954 (300 yards on only 9 carries and 5 td’s scored) won 56-13

John Rosella of North Schuylkill vs Bloomsburg in 1968 (306 yards on 23 carries and 4 td’s scored) won 38-12

Tim Posivak of Liberty vs Allen in 1976 (309 yards on 32 carries and 4 td’s scored) won 41-14

Bob Agosti of Marian Catholic vs Pottsville in 1986 (306 yards on 27 carries and 2 td’s scored) won 37-14

Jim Hope of Tamaqua vs Shenandoah Valley in 1989 (331 yards on 30 carries and 3 td’s scored) won 28-21

There were no 300 yard rushers in 1990. So, that means (109 of the 115) 300 yard rushers have been since the 1991 season.
