District 11 Top Returning Players – Week 2

DISTRICT 11 NOTES (week 2):  

RUNNINGBACKS: 

Aiden Myers of Schuylkill Haven rushed for 315 yards and 4 td’s in their win over Nativity.  Myers has 409 yards rushing this season and trails only District leader Alex Achenbach of Williams Valley.  Achenbach leads with 484 yards and 7 td’s.  Cade Sawyer of Southern Lehigh rushed for 200 yards and scored 2 td’s in their win over Notre Dame.  Sawyer has 305 yards rushing on the season.  Cade Christopher of Northwestern scored 2 more td’s vs Northern Lehigh and now has 6 td’s total on the season.  Christopher now has 35 career td’s.  Izaiah Ramos of Northern Lehigh scored 3 td’s in their win over Northwestern and now has 6 total for the season.  Conner Dillon of Tamaqua rushed for 107 yards and caught 4 passes for another 134 yards while scoring 2 td’s in their win over Lehighton.  Jake Scheib now has 26 career td’s and Bangor’s Eric Striba scored his 25th career td last week in their win over Jim Thorpe.

QUARTERBACKS:

Brady O’Donnell of Lehighton leads the District with 516 yards passing.  Matt Machalik of Palmerton leads the District this season with 7 td passes (25 career) to go along with his 434 yard passing.  Sonny Sasso of Nazareth is sandwiched between O’Donnell and Machalik with 450 yards passing and trails Machalik with 5 td passes this season.  Sasso and Isaac Whiteash of Williams Valley each threw for 20th career td last week.  Danny Darno of Notre Dame is next in line with his 424 yards passing this season.  The junior needs 6 more yards to reach 1,000 yards for his career.  Colby Mitchell of ES South is the other QB to pass for 400 yards this season.  Mitchell has thrown for 412 yards and 5 td passes.

RECEIVERS:

Ian Rarick of Lehighton caught 10 passes for 170 yards and a td vs Tamaqua.  The school record is 11 receptions in a game.  Shane McEvoy caught 11 passes in a game vs both Stroudsburg and Northwestern in 2007 and Jacen Nalesnik caught 11 passes vs PM East in 2011.  Nekhi Spencer of ES South leads the District with 4 td receptions through the first 2 weeks.  Sophomore Justin Yescavage of Jim Thorpe caught 10 passes for 138 and a td vs Bangor.  Yescavage also came up 1 catch short of the school record of 11.  Josh Hontz in 2007 and Khaaliq Lynch in 2012 both caught 11 passes vs Tamaqua.  Damian Tyminski of Pen Argyl went over 1,000 yards receiving for his career and now has 1,018 yards.  Tyminski is only the 3rd Green Knight to reach 1,000 yards.  Tyler Germano holds the school record with his 1,452 yards he had from 1998-00 and Tim Hahn had 1,162 yards receiving from 1987-89.  Pen Argyl has 4 players that reached the 900-yard mark with Joe Kopko netting 999 yards from 1984-87.  Ed Easterly had 959 yards from 1996-98, Kenny Watts totaled 949 yards from 1998-00 and Dylan Evans ended his career with 926 yards (2008-11).

STAT OF THE WEEK:

Aiden Myers 315-yard rushing game last week was Haven’s 14th – 300 yard game.  That nearly doubles the 2nd place team in the District which is Parkland who has 8.  Zack Barket had 7 – 300 plus yard games with a school record 413 yards vs North Schuylkill in 2008.  Koby Brish has 4 – 300-yard games and both Buddy Fegely and William Casella each have 1.
