QUARTERBACKS:

Patrick Cahill of Central Catholic threw for 474 yards and 5 td’s in their win over Jim Thorpe. Both totals fall short of the school records that Brendan Nosovitch set in a playoff game against Valley View in 2011. Nosovitch threw for 487 yards and 8 td’s in that game. District leaders Antonio Fontanez of Liberty and Matt Bodnar of Notre Dame have nearly identical stats for the first 11 games of the season. Both have thrown a District leading 35 td passes, both have attempted 233 passes and are 1 completion apart 156 to 157. They are separated by 12 yards with Fontanez leading the District with his new school record 2,568 yards. Fontanez broke Doug Erney’s school record of 2,423 yards that he threw as a junior in 2014. Bodnar surpassed the 7,000 yard mark for his career with his 7,008 yards which slots him into 9th place all-time in the District. His 77 career td passes moves him ahead of Carr on the all-time list and into 7th place all-time in the District. Colton Sams of Southern Lehigh has thrown for 5,568 career yards putting him in the top 30 all-time (29th place). He also has 70 career td passes which ties him for 14th place all-time in the District with Doug Erney of Liberty (2013-15). Shane Leh of Northwestern is two behind Sams with 68 career td passes. Jake Cirillo of ES South (2013-16) is sandwiched between Sams and Leh with 69 career td passes. Shomper has thrown 67 career td passes breaking the school record of 66 that Bryce Herb threw from 2018-20. The 67 td passes ties him with Fontanez for 18th place all-time in the District. All 6 QB’s are playing in week 12. Jack Trickel of Palisades went over 2,000 yards in their overtime loss to Northern Lehigh (2,062). He’s the second Pirate to go over 2,000 yards passing in a season. Kevin Burke holds the school record with his 2,363 yards he threw for in 1975. Trickel ended the season throwing 21 td passes which ties Burke for the school record. He ends his career with school records for yardage (3,899), and td passes (36). Mason Soos of Pen Argyl saved his best for last. He threw for a career high 259 yards and 3 td’s in their loss to Minersville. That was his 3rd consecutive 200 yard passing game to end the season. TIDBITS: SOME NEW INFO FOR WEEK 11

I was able to bring together all my records of the 300 yard rushers in District 11 over the years and I found that it’s been done 115 times. Here’s some info on them with more to come as time permits.

1st recorded 300 yard rushers (1st 6):

Gil Strunk of Pen Argyl vs Bangor in 1934 (302 yards on 53 carries and 5 td’s scored) won 33-13

Maurice Schleicher of Slatington (NL) vs Lehighton in 1954 (300 yards on only 9 carries and 5 td’s scored) won 56-13

John Rosella of North Schuylkill vs Bloomsburg in 1968 (306 yards on 23 carries and 4 td’s scored) won 38-12

Tim Posivak of Liberty vs Allen in 1976 (309 yards on 32 carries and 4 td’s scored) won 41-14

Bob Agosti of Marian Catholic vs Pottsville in 1986 (306 yards on 27 carries and 2 td’s scored) won 37-14

Jim Hope of Tamaqua vs Shenandoah Valley in 1989 (331 yards on 30 carries and 3 td’s scored) won 28-21

There were no 300 yard rushers in 1990. So, that means (109 of the 115) 300 yard rushers have been since the 1991 season.
