District 11 Top Returning Players Week 1

DISTRICT 11 NOTES (week 1):  

RUNNINGBACKS: 

Alex Achenbach of Williams Valley rushed for 230 yards on 40 carries and scored 2 td’s in their win over Upper Dauphin.  Achenbach joined the “4,000 yard” club and now has 4,191 career rushing yards.  Achenbach also went over 50 career td’s and currently has 51 career td’s.  Matt Machalik of Palmerton rushed for 209 yards and 5 td’s, threw for 184 yards and a td and scored a 6th td on an interception return.  His 6 td’s tie the school record that Matt Stasko set in 2015 vs Catasauqua.  Machalik has scored 64 career td’s and that moves him into 24th place all-time in the District.  He is currently tied with Jonathan Linton (Catasauqua 1989-92), Rashonn Drayon (Central Catholic 1992-94) and Michael McDaniel (Bethlehem Catholic 2012-14).  Machalik also broke the school career passing yardage record.  Garrett Perschy held the record when he threw for 4,595 yards from 2013-16.  Machalik now has 4,710 yards.  Lane Lehman of Pine Grove rushed for 227 yards and 2 td’s vs Northern Lebanon.  Lehma rushed for 216 yards vs N.L. last year.  Sophomore Gabe Green of Liberty rushed for 196 yards and 2 td’s in their win over Dieruff.  Tyler Miller of Blue Mountain was added to the chart after surpassing 1,000 career rushing yards in week 1.  Caden Henritzy of Northampton and Dalton Clymer of Northwestern both have scored 35 career td’s.

QUARTERBACKS:

Four QB’s threw for 200 yards in week 1.  Sophomore, Peyton Falzone of Nazareth threw for 260 yards and 3 td’s in their win over ESS.  Trevor Minalda of North Schuylkill threw for 221 yards and 3 td’s in their win over Mount Carmel.  Minalda now has 30 career td passes as does Luke Spang of Parkland.  Brady O’Donnell of Lehighton threw for 210 yards and a touchdown in their loss to Palmerton and has 20 career td passes.  Aiden Hess of Catasauqua threw for 208 yards and 5 td’s in their win over Northern Lehigh.  Hess’s 5 td passes ties the school record held by Zack Bradley (2013) and Andrew Brett (2016).  Greg Campbell of Bangor went from catching 39 passes last year as a wide receiver to throwing for 133 yards and 4 td’s in his first start at quarterback in week 1.  Campbell completed 9 passes in 12 attempts in their win over Palisades.  Ben Dempster of Shenandoah Valley also threw for 133 yards and 4 td’s in their win over CMVT.  Whitehall’s Dogmantis brothers accomplished a feat that probably hasn’t been done in District 11 before.  Trey, a senior, started the game and threw for 55 yards and a td.  Sophomore Talon, replaced Trey and had 1 rushing attempt and also scored a 2 point conversion.  And then freshman Tanner finished the game taking snaps behind center.  Three brothers taking snaps behind center in the same game.  Danny Darno of Notre Dame threw for 182 yards and a td and also rushed for 146 yards and 3 td’s in their win over Saucon Valley.  Joseph Martinez of Easton and Brad Rissmiller of Pen Argyl both completed all of their passes in week 1 wins.  Martinez went 10 for 10 for 59 yards and a td vs ESN and Rissmiller went 6 for 6 for 179 yards and 2 td’s in their win over Wilson.  Martinez and Wilson’s Jeramy Cressman joined the chart as both went over 1,000 yards passing for their careers in week 1.

RECEIVERS:

Ian Juica of Catasauqua caught 7 passes for 146 yards and a school record 4 td’s.  Juica went over 1,000 yards receiving in his career in the game (1,054).  Alex Moser of Pen Argyl caught 3 passes for 148 yards (including a 90 yarder) and 2 td’s vs Wilson.  Moser also took the opening kick-off 81 yards for a td.  Nick Ryan of Shenandoah Valley caught 4 passes for 128 yards with all 4 going for td’s vs CMVT.  He tied his own school record of 4 td receptions in a game.  Ryan had 4 td’s vs Hancock MD last season and Ron Wasilewski caught 4 td’s vs Bishop O’Reilly in 1998.   Andrew Olesh of Southern Lehigh caught 6 passes for 141 yards and 2 td’s in their win over Quakertown.  Riley Stapp of Bangor caught 3 passes for 69 yards with all 3 going for td’s vs Palisades in week 1.  Justin Yescavage of Jim Thorpe caught 4 passes for 76 yards vs Blue Mountain to go over 500 yards receiving for his career and is now on the chart.  District leader Joey Flail of North Schuylkill caught 7 passes for 86 yard and 2 td’s while also rushing for a td.  Flail is tied for 16th place all-time in the District with Tim Walter of Southern Lehigh (2014-16) in career receptions (133).  Jareel Calhoun of Central Catholic moves into 27th place with his 122 career receptions.  Calhoun is just a junior.  And, Mason Kuehner of Nazareth moves into the top 50 all-time (45th) with his 112 career receptions.  Flail is 19th all-time in career reception yardage with his 2,109 yards and Damian Tyminski of Pen Argyl moves into 37th place with his 1,831 yards.  Tyminski only had 19 yards in week 1, but he moved ahead of 3 players on the list.  They are; Don Evans of Jim Thorpe (1,815 yards from 1999-01), Nick Merva of Shenandoah Valley (1,816 yards from 2010-12), and Trevor Amorim of Northern Lehigh (1,822 yards from 2019-21).
